Devin Williams' Sudden Outburst in Yankees-Padres is Turning Heads
Devin Williams' first year with the New York Yankees hasn't exactly gone according to plan. His struggles on the mound have forced manager Aaron Boone to take away his job as the team's closer.
It seemed as though his story with the Yankees was about to get even worse when he found himself dealing with a bases-loaded situation in the 10th inning of Wednesday night's game at Yankee Stadium against the San Diego Padres.

But the 30-year-old reliever found a way to get out of a jam. Needing just one more out to snuff San Diego's rally while on a full count and the game tied at 3-3, Williams threw an 84 MPH changeup that punched out Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts
The two-time National League All-Star couldn't contain his emotion, as he let out a scream and pumped his fist before walking back to the dugout.
Williams' show of emotion and clutch performance got him some extra attention from fans online.
'That was a close one. Glad he was able to keep it together,' said a fan.
Another one commented: 'So hard to watch glad Williams was able to get it done‼️✅⚾️'

At least one social media user didn't seem impressed: 'Acting like he won the World Series after striking out an aging Bogaerts. I'm dead 💀'
'It's about [expletive] time,' a different comment read.
Via a commenter: 'HUGE confidence booster for Devin'
From an X user: 'Hope he gets back to form.'

Manny Machado's 5 RBIs lead Padres' 11-1 rout of pitching-poor Dodgers
Manny Machado had three hits and drove in five runs, Luis Arraez had three hits and scored four times, and the San Diego Padres capitalized on the Los Angeles Dodgers' lack of major league pitchers for an 11-1 victory Tuesday night. Dylan Cease (2-5) struck out 11 and yielded three hits over seven scoreless innings while ending his 11-start winless streak for the Padres, who dominated a bizarre game in this rivalry series. The Dodgers won the clubs' season opener 8-7 in a 10-inning thriller Monday, but the second game was barely competitive due to the defending World Series champions' pitching woes. The Dodgers have 14 pitchers on the injured list, and they handed this game over to Matt Sauer (1-1), who had been recalled from the minors to provide bulk innings. The Dodgers stuck to their plan even though Sauer struggled, allowing him to throw 111 pitches while giving up nine runs on 13 hits. Utilityman Kiké Hernández then pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while throwing no pitch faster than 57 mph. Cease issued five walks, but he also prevented the Dodgers' high-powered lineup from making it a game despite LA's pitching woes. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third. Martín Maldonado hit the Padres' only homer. Xander Bogaerts had a two-run single, and Jackson Merrill had an RBI triple. San Diego went up 11-0 in the seventh on Machado's two-run single. Michael Conforto got an RBI single for the Dodgers in the eighth. Key moment The Padres mounted their first rally with two outs in the third. Fernando Tatís Jr. drew a walk and scored on Arraez's double to right. Machado singled home Arraez, extending his hitting streak to eight games, before scoring on Merrill's triple to right. Key stat Machado's five RBIs matched his career high. Up next San Diego's Randy Vásquez (3-4, 3.69 ERA) faces Justin Wrobleski (1-2, 7.20), who also is in the Dodgers' rotation solely because of injuries.

Teoscar Hernández hits a 3-run homer and the Dodgers beat the Padres 5-2 to win the series
Teoscar Hernández broke a sixth-inning tie with a three-run homer and Michael Conforto also went deep for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Wednesday to take two of three games in the first series this season between the NL West rivals. The defending World Series champions bounced back from Tuesday night's 11-1 loss, a rout so bad for the pitching-strapped Dodgers that utilityman Kiké Hernández pitched the final 2 1/3 innings after starter Matt Sauer threw 111 pitches. Rookie right-hander Ben Casparius got through four innings in his second start of the season, with just one rough patch. He allowed five straight Padres to reach in the second but they got just one run, thanks largely to center fielder Andy Pages throwing out Gavin Sheets at the plate on a 99 mph throw on the fly to catcher Will Smith. After allowing three straight singles, Casparius walked consecutive batters, including No. 9 hitter Martín Maldonado with the bases loaded. Fernando Tatis Jr. then flied out on the first pitch to end the threat. Conforto homered to left-center off Randy Vásquez with one out in the fifth, his fourth. Hernández hit a 420-foot shot to straightaway center field off Jeremiah Estrada with one out in the sixth, his 11th. Freddie Freeman was aboard on a single off Adrian Morejon (3-3), and Smith drew a walk from Estrada. After pulling to 4-2 on Sheets' sacrifice fly in the sixth, the Padres blew another prime scoring chance when Michael Kopech walked the bases loaded with one out in the seventh. Anthony Banda came on and retired three-time batting champion Luis Arraez on a weak popup and Manny Machado on a grounder. The Dodgers, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit to eliminate San Diego in a National League Division Series last year, host the Padres next Monday through Thursday. Key moment Pages' throw home was on the first base side of the plate, but Smith caught it, wheeled around and tagged Sheets. Key stat Lou Trivino (2-0) got the win and Alex Vesia, the Dodgers' eighth pitcher, struck out the side in the ninth for his third save. Up next Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-4, 2.20 ERA) is scheduled to start Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at home against San Francisco. Padres RHP Stephen Kolek (3-1, 3.00) starts the opener of a three-game series at Arizona.

Yankees Make Jazz Chisholm Jr. Announcement After Leaving Royals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees entered Wednesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals with a 40-25 record that sits atop the American League East. Securing a 10-2 victory over Kansas City in the series opener, New York stayed hot with a five-run second inning on Wednesday that gave starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt a comfortable lead. Advertisement One of the offensive contributors for New York in this series has been left-handed hitting infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., who recorded a hit and run scored on Tuesday before reaching base twice on Wednesday via two walks. Unfortunately for he and the team, Chisholm exited early on Wednesday with an apparent injury. New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (13)David Richard-Imagn Images This is the second straight night Chisholm has been lifted early with an injury. In the series opener it was neck tightness that caused his exit. There was early speculation among fans that this could be a related issue, but the Yankees have since announced it was unrelated. "Yankees announce Jazz Chisholm Jr. left tonight's game with left groin tightness," Erik Boland of Newsday Sports wrote on X. Speaking with reporters after Tuesday's game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he expected Chisholm to be back in the lineup on Wednesday. Chisholm said the same (via Greg Joyce of the New York Post). Advertisement This ended up being the case, with Chisholm starting at third base, but his night ended after just three plate appearances due to a separate injury. On the season, Chisholm is hitting .214 with a .773 OPS and nine home runs. The 27-year-old has also stolen 10 bases and driven in 24 runs for the first-place Yankees.
