Johor Bomba calls off search after CCTV shows no one fell into sea following JB motorbike collision
Operations Commander PBK I Firdaus Abdullah said a final review of CCTV footage from the Johor Bahru City Council showed that only one victim was thrown from the impact.
'The individual was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment, bringing the total number of victims involved in the crash to three,' he said in a statement today.
Earlier, 16 personnel from the Larkin and Skudai Fire and Rescue Stations, including members of the Water Rescue Team, had launched a search operation following initial reports that a victim may have fallen into a nearby seawater channel. — Bernama

Search ongoing for missing driver after car plunges into Pagoh river
MUAR: Rescue teams are still searching for a man in his 40s after his car plunged into Sungai Kampung Tui near the Kampung Kecil bridge along Jalan Bukit Kepong in Pagoh. The incident was reported to the Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station at 3.22 pm today. Senior Fire Officer I Nor Alfatah Omar, the operations commander, stated that seven firefighters from Pagoh and Muar stations were deployed with a Light Fire Rescue Tender and a Toyota Hilux 4WD. Upon arrival at 3.51 pm, they found a Perodua Axia submerged in the river, which was about two metres deep. Initial police reports suggest the accident may have happened a day earlier. 'Op Metal': MACC Raids Two E-waste Recycling Plants In Penang
BUTTERWORTH, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today raided two electronic waste (e-waste) recycling factories suspected of bribing enforcement officers, leading to significant tax revenue losses. The coordinated raids, conducted at 9 am under Op Metal, targeted one factory on Jalan Perusahaan Perai 3 in the Perai Industrial Area and another in Bukit Minyak, Bukit Mertajam. The action follows the recent exposure of a scrap metal smuggling syndicate, in which scrap metal was falsely declared as machinery and other items not subject to the government's 15 percent export tax. Now in its second day, Op Metal is being led by MACC's Special Operations Division in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and Bank Negara Malaysia under a multi-agency task force. MACC's Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad secured both premises, documented 25 local and foreign workers, and detained a man in his 50s, believed to be the chief operating officer, for further questioning and document retrieval. Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that 13 additional locations across Penang, Kedah, Johor and the Klang Valley were raided today. 'MACC is now identifying those colluding with the syndicate that smuggled scrap metal and e-waste through Port Klang and Penang Port, causing an estimated tax loss of over RM950 million over the past six years,' he said. Earlier, Bernama reported that the MACC had launched a major crackdown on scrap metal smuggling syndicates operating across five states, believed to have bribed enforcement officers to evade taxes, resulting in over RM950 million in revenue losses for the government. -- BERNAMA

Putrajaya PKR files report against Harakah over anti-Anwar rally

PUTRAJAYA : Putrajaya PKR has lodged a police report against PAS organ Harakah Daily over an allegedly seditious article that promotes a protest against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. At a press conference outside the district police headquarters, the division's deputy chief Shariff Jeev claimed the article contained seditious content that would incite Malaysians. 'We urge the police to investigate the article and the planned protests under Section 124B of the Penal Code (for committing an activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy) or any appropriate law,' he said. When asked if he wanted the authorities to prevent the rally from going ahead, he said it should be allowed to proceed if it was held in an 'appropriate way'. Shariff nonetheless claimed that the protest planned for July 26 could become a threat to the country's peaceful way of life and its parliamentary democracy. 'So far, 52 police reports have been lodged throughout the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak. Today alone six reports were filed', he added. Putrajaya PKR information chief Hafiz Osman called for the protest to be held somewhere else instead of Dataran Merdeka to prevent it from 'spiralling out of control'. 'We do not want the protesters to provoke others. We hope the police will be able to cordon off the area.' The rally organised by Perikatan Nasional aims to push for Anwar's resignation as prime minister. Last week, over 300 rallied in Shah Alam for the same cause. The smaller rally was held to promote the Dataran Merdeka protest.
