Monson Savings Bank supports Miracle League of Western Massachusetts with donation
The donation will support the organization's mission of giving children with disabilities the chance to play baseball in a safe, inclusive setting. The gift was part of the bank's 2025 Community Giving Initiative, which provides funding to local nonprofits and organizations chosen by public vote.
Local woman's effort donates $85,000 in goods to those in need
Kandy Tranghese, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Monson Savings Bank, presented the donation to Miracle League board president Brian Feeley and co-founder Ernie Fitzell.
'At Monson Savings Bank, we believe that every child deserves the chance to experience teamwork,' Tranghese said. 'The Miracle League of Western Massachusetts does awesome work to make that possible here in the Springfield area, and we are honored to support their efforts. This donation is a reflection of our admiration for their mission and the lives they touch.'
The Miracle League of Western Massachusetts was established in 2015 by Ernie and Tammy Fitzell. The program serves children ages 4 to 19 with physical or cognitive disabilities, offering them the opportunity to play baseball and be part of a team.
'We are incredibly grateful to Monson Savings Bank and the community for their generous support,' Feeley said. 'This donation will directly impact our ability to provide a fun, inclusive, and empowering experience for our players and their families. It's partnerships like this that help us grow and thrive.'
Fitzell echoed the sentiment, adding that the support helps the league continue its mission.
'Seeing the smiles on the faces of our players is what drives us every day,' Fitzell said. 'Monson Savings Bank's support means more children will have the chance to feel that joy. We're thankful for their belief in what we do and their investment in our community.'
Each year, Monson Savings Bank's Community Giving Initiative allows residents to vote for nonprofits they would like the bank to support, highlighting community organizations making a difference in western Massachusetts.

Westfield Starfires join students for STEM showcase
WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Students at a local middle school mixed education and fun, with a special appearance from the Westfield Starfires. Westfield middle schoolers got to enjoy a baseball game in the sun, but also got to learn the science behind the sport. It was a busy day for Westfield Middle School on Wednesday, as they partnered with Westfield Technical Academy and the Westfield Starfires baseball team for a STEM career showcase. Project Lifesaver launches in Chicopee to help locate wandering individuals The middle school students got the chance to interact with the technical school and see if it's a high school they would want to attend. From aviation and construction, to auto-tech, manufacturing, and electric wiring, the options for industries offered varied. 'A lot of great things to offer here at Westfield,' said Westfield Technical Academy Assistant Principal Kevin Daley. 'For them to see a non-traditional high school in the tech atmosphere, it's great for everybody.' STEM education actually has a lot to do with the sport of baseball. 'Velocity, speed, pitching, fielding, all of the things that go into math and science happen out here,' said Westfield Middle School Assistant Principal Karri Kells. The Westfield Starfires went head-to-head with the Worcester Bravehearts here at the stadium with an audience of over 1,500 people. The Starfires are trying to make a comeback from last season, and getting to speak with students, take photos, and sign autographs made it all the more special. 'It's a great opportunity for these students to see where these players are from, what universities they attend around the country,' Starfires team owner Chris Thompson said. 'And there's just a lot of energy at the ballpark, it's amazing.' Even though the team came up short in the double header, they can redeem themselves on Thursday against the Vermont Lake Monsters. Chicopee Mayor Vieau wins trophy at Spirit of Springfield Golf Classic
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Spirit of Springfield Golf Classic teed off Friday morning from Franconia Golf Course in Springfield. The day kicked off with the mayors of Springfield, West Springfield, Agawam, Westfield and Chicopee all taking part in the coveted Mayor's Cup. Each mayor had three short putts to make. For each one they made, they got to take a second shot at a long putt. Closest ball wins. LIST: Ironman triathlon to cause weekend road closures In the end, Chicopee Mayor John Vieau came out victorious, recapturing the title from told 22News why he looks forward to this event, 'I get to collaborate with the mayors of western Mass. Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and West Springfield Mayor William Reichelt have yet to secure the elusive trophy, but they put up a good fight this year.
