Ex Serie A Referee On Yann Bisseck Controversial Penalty In Inter Milan 2-2 Lazio Draw: 'VAR Shouldn't Have Intervened'
Former Serie A referee Gianpaolo Calvarese delivered his verdict on scandalous VAR calls during Inter Milan's controversial draw against Lazio.
Calvarese took to social media to offer his view on the incidents that led to a fatal 2-2 draw last Sunday, via FCInterNews.

Indeed, his decision helped Lazio get both goals at San Siro, handing Antonio Conte's team a crucial title boost.
Chiffi decided Pedro's 72nd-minute equalizer was legit, even though Boulaye Dia was miles offside in the build-up.
However, the hammer blow was yet to come.
Denzel Dumfries restored Inter's lead, only to see his effort go in vain thanks to another dubious VAR call.
Though Chiffi waved play on despite Lazio's penalty appeals, he eventually penalized Yann Bisseck's handball.
After reviewing the incident with VAR, he changed his decision, giving Lazio a pivotal 90th-minute penalty.
Unfortunately, there was no way back for Inter this time.

'A difficult, borderline incident,' Calvarese said. 'There are elements suggesting it is punishable and others suggesting it isn't.

'For that reason alone, in my view, it's not a VAR case.
'If we look at the still image, Bisseck's arm is close to his body, which would lean toward non-punishability,' Calvarese continued.
'However, the arm does make an extra movement toward the ball.
'It's that dynamic that led VAR official Di Paolo to call Chiffi to the monitor.
'That said, in this season, similar incidents haven't triggered a VAR review – like Baschirotto's in Lecce-Inter.'
Finally, Calverese shared his thoughts about appointing Marco Guida as an assistant referee in the VAR booth.
'Another reason behind Inter's media silence is the appointment of Guida,' he added.

'In my view, it was a somewhat risky choice. For the sake of balance, other referees could have been selected.
'I was convinced that any debatable episode would be used for political point-scoring by both sides.'

The overnight celebrations were largely peaceful but degenerated into violence in some areas. A man in his 20s was killed in Paris when his scooter was hit by a car during PSG celebrations, and the driver has been detained, Paris police said. The circumstances of both are being investigated. A total of 201 people were injured around the capital, four of them seriously, the Paris police chief said. In the Alpine city of Grenoble, a driver ran into pedestrians who had gathered for a PSG celebration, injuring three or four people, the regional prosecutor's office said. It said the driver was detained. The city also saw fans throwing projectiles at firefighters and police using dispersion grenades. Up to 110,000 people were allowed along the iconic, tree-lined Champs-Elysees avenue for a parade. Later, the team will join fans in PSG's home stadium, the Parc des Princes, for a concert and light show and official presentation of the Champions League trophy. PSG arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport airport at around 4:30 p.m. (1430 GMT). Club captain Marquinhos and president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi brandished the Champions League trophy aloft as they got off the plane. A wide swath of central Paris was closed to traffic for the exceptional day. The security measures are also impacting the French Open unfolding nearby. Thousands of police were deployed to keep order, and will employ similar tactics as they did Saturday night, Paris police chief Laurent Nunez told reporters. AP reporters saw tear gas used near the stadium and water cannons used near the Arc de Triomphe to disperse rowdy crowds Saturday. In addition to the injuries and arrests, Nunez said four stores were looted overnight. Firefighters were so busy extinguishing garbage can fires in the middle of celebrations and dealing with other emergencies that the fire hotline was overloaded. By 2 a.m. Sunday, a total of 294 arrests had been made, including 30 people who broke into a shoe shop on the Champs-Élysées. Two cars were set alight close to Parc des Princes, police added. Advertisement At the Place de la Bastille, there were joyous scenes as fans climbed onto the base of the famous column, singing, dancing and letting off flares, while those around them joined in. At one point, motorbikes loudly revved their engines and the crowd cheered as they did laps around the column. There were no police nearby and, by 1 a.m., the atmosphere was upbeat with no tensions and plenty of singing. Nunez blamed the scattered troubles on 'thousands of people who came to commit acts of violence' instead of watching the match. He noted similar unrest on the sidelines of prior celebrations in the capital, such as after France's World Cup win in 2018. John Leicester contributed to this report.

Manchester City want to seal the signings of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki in the next few days. Pep Guardiola's recruitment team are pushing to sign the duo in time for this month's Club World Cup. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that talks are advanced over a deal that will be worth in the region of €30m. Advertisement Cherki led both Ligue 1 and the Europa League for assists provided. The Frenchman's relatively low release clause is viewed as an ideal market opportunity for City in the club's quest to replace Kevin De Bruyne's creativity. Key defender Acerbi turns down Italy call-up ahead of World Cup qualifier vs. Haaland's Norway

FLORENCE, Italy (AP) — Key center back Francesco Acerbi turned down a call-up to Italy's national team, leaving the Azzurri without the defender who was expected to mark Erling Haaland during a key World Cup qualifier against Norway. Italy coach Luciano Spalletti revealed Sunday that Acerbi called him after playing for Inter Milan in the Champions League final, which was won 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. 'He sent me a message saying he wasn't going to take part and I responded and then talked to him by phone,' Spalletti said. 'There are players who deserve to be here just as much as he does.' Italy visits Norway on Friday and then hosts Moldova three days later. 'Whether we go to the World Cup or not depends a lot on how we play in Norway,' Spalletti said. 'We all know it.' Italy has failed to qualify for the last two World Cups. Alessandro Buongiorno, another defender, was sent home injured Sunday and replaced by Luca Ranieri of Fiorentina. ___
