Everton sell women's team to parent company

BBC News3 days ago
Everton have sold their women's team to the parent company which owns the club - a move that will improve their compliance with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).The team has been purchased by Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is owned and controlled by American businessman Dan Friedkin. The Friedkin Group completed its takeover of Everton in December 2024.The move allows the women's team to act as a standalone entity and attract minority investment. The men's team, meanwhile, benefits from the sale being recorded as revenue in the club's accounts, which positively impacts their PSR position. Under PSR, clubs cannot exceed £105m losses over a three-year period. Everton were deducted points in 2021-22 and again in 2022-23 for breaching the rules. No figures have been released regarding the value of the sale.
Everton are the third Premier League club to sell their women's team to navigate the Premier League's financial rules.Chelsea sold their women's team to parent company BlueCo for nearly £200m in June 2024. Subsequently, the team attracted the attention of Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, who purchased an 8-10% minority stake in May.Aston Villa sold its women's team to holding company V Sports in June.In 2024-25, Everton finished eighth in the Women's Super League, reached the fifth round of the Women's FA Cup, and exited in the group stage of the Women's League Cup.
'An opportunity for more money to come into the women's team'
Everton have transferred ownership of the women's team to a separate part of the Friedkin Group empire, which is still under the broad control of Everton. It's a sideways move. It's an investment opportunity. We've seen the fantastic success of the Lionesses. We're seeing, especially in the United States, a huge interest in the women's game. Therefore, you can now sell part of the women's team and keep control of the men's. It's setting up the business to perhaps be more profitable going forward. It's within the rules. We saw similar take place with Chelsea and Aston Villa. The women's team at Everton has control of Goodison Park, so that would make it an attractive all-in proposition. It is positive news because it means there is the opportunity for more money to come into the women's team from a minority investor. There wasn't enough attention given to the women's team under the old ownership group. If you get the surroundings right, if you get the pricing right, you can attract a new type of fanbase and a different demographic. You can go to sponsors and partners and say, "we are the women's team, we are different from the men's team, and you can benefit from that."There are huge opportunities here and there's a feel-good factor following the Euros final on Sunday and I think it's the right time to capitalise on that.

'Dibling gets rave reviews'

Tyler Dibling gets rave reviews when I speak to senior players and former players about him. They see a young English talent who has great potential and huge natural has great balance, poise, power and strength for his age. The ball sticks to his feet when he is dribbling and he can win free-kicks by sucking defenders in only to shift the ball away from them in a Jack Grealish season was a steep learning curve for him. It was a tough campaign for a teenager to deal with. He was brilliant at times but as the season faded for Southampton, it also faded for niggling injuries impacted him as well as the vagaries of trying to play at the highest level week in week out, which few 18-year-olds can is a quiet and thoughtful teenager, who doesn't look for the centre stage, but his talent is good enough to demand it at some point in the future, if he keeps growing as he has.I've said all summer that Southampton should be trying to get £40-50m for him, so we will see what the club accept at the end of the day, if he wants to go to Everton of went to Chelsea as a youngster but didn't like it and came back to Saints, so that in itself says a lot about what is important to up for news alerts on your club

Manchester United handed triple injury boost ahead of new season

Manchester United play their first Premier League game of the season against Arsenal in two weeks and Ruben Amorim could soon have three injured players back in his plans Lisandro Martinez is closing in on a Manchester United return ahead of the new season. The Argentine defender has been ruled out since February with a serious knee injury. ‌ But he is edging towards a return to the side, with further progress made during United's pre-season tour in the United States. Martinez is continuing his rehabilitation with his teammates in Chicago as he aims to return to the pitch. ‌ The Manchester Evening News suggest that the defender is set to resume light training as part of an individual programme. He is not, however, ready to train alongside his teammates just yet. ‌ That means Martinez could still be sidelined for United's Premier League opener against Arsenal in just over a fortnight. Speaking ahead of that game, Martinez said: 'The club is obviously going through a process of change. Since Sir Alex Ferguson 's departure, they haven't found a manager who hits the right note. Ten Hag did a remarkable job at Ajax, which is why he went to United, and thanks to him, I joined the club as well. "It's like everything in life: you take a gamble, and sometimes it works out well, sometimes it doesn't. I think that, like any club, if something isn't working, it needs to be changed. It's necessary to analyse what's working and what isn't and make changes accordingly because that's how great clubs operate. Manchester is one of the best clubs in the world. "Now Ruben Amorim has arrived with very good energy and willingness. I believe he will make the necessary changes. Without a doubt change is needed, because where we ended up in the table over the last two seasons is unacceptable." As Martinez steps up his recovery, Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee are both back training after their own respective issues. ‌ Onana has been struggling with a hamstring strain, while Zirkzee picked up a slight issue at the start of pre-season. But both have returned to the pitch and will step up their respective recoveries over the coming week. Speaking about his issue, Zirkzee said: "I've got a small injury but it shouldn't take too long to recover now. I've got great physios working with me every day. ‌ "It's not a serious problem. It's pre-season so unlike last season where I wanted to push myself to be back for the final, obviously now I just want to be there for the start of the season." United take on Everton on Sunday before their final pre-season game against Italian side Fiorentina in just over a week's time. They then have a further eight days to fine-tune any aspects of Ruben Amorim's tactics ahead of the season opener against Arsenal.
