Netball: Pulse lose Silver Ferns shooter Amelia Walmsley

Sunday 14 April 2024. © Photo: Andrew Cornaga / Photosport Photo: Andrew Cornaga/ The Pulse have lost their fifth player, this time the ANZ Premiership's most prolific shooter Amelia Walmsley. The 1.92m shooter joined the Pulse in 2022, straight out of high school. In 2023 she had a breakthrough campaign, which earnt her a call-up to the Silver Ferns. This year Walmsley scored the most goals in the competition and was the most accurate at 96 percent. The Pulse have already lost three players to the Australian competition - Kelly Jackson and Maddy Gordon will play for the Queensland Firebirds in 2026, while Whitney Souness will play for the Sydney-based Giants. The Wellington-based franchise will be looking for at least two new shooters, with Tiana Metuarau also leaving the club after a number of seasons. RNZ understands the former Silver Fern is heading to the United Kingdom. Former Silver Fern captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio has confirmed she is leaving the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and it's not clear what her plans are next year. No doubt the Pulse, where Ekenasio started her ANZ Premiership career, would dearly love to recruit the best goal attack in the country. Walmsley, who grew up in Auckland, could have been lured back home by the Mystics or Stars. The Mystics have lost front-line shooter Donnell Wallam and the south Auckland based Stars will be going all out after finishing bottom of the table in 2025. Walmsley said she would miss the franchise. "I always stay places for the people. Being able to work alongside Maddy, Tiana and Whitney over the past few years in the attacking end has been something that I've absolutely loved."
