Super Swachh League: Indore strengthens claim for top spot
Indore: Indore, which has been country's cleanest city for seven times in a row, now has Vijayawada as competitor in the 'Super Swachh League' along with Surat and Navi Mumbai in the above 10 lakh population category. The addition was made shortly before President Droupadi Murmu is expected to honour the cities that demonstrated exceptional performance in cleanliness at a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan on Thursday. At the time of introducing the elite 'Super Swachh League' as part of Swachh Survekshan 2024, there were 12 cities competing in different population categories based on their securing a position in the top three ranks in at least two years in the last three years (2021-2023) surveys. Relaxing some norms, 11 cities have been added to the elite league, including Vijayawada, which secured its best rank so far, third in 2021, official sources said. All eyes, meanwhile, are on Indore. Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) senior officials, who reached Delhi and participated in the rehearsal of the award distribution ceremony, are confident of receiving the prestigious award for the eighth time in a row. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "Indore's performance is exceptional, and we have been chosen to mentor another city to become like us," Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said in a video message from Israel. "Israel has expressed interest in understanding India's cleanliness model and Indore's waste management. We have tried to learn a lot from their innovations, and soon there will be a sister city partnership between a city in India and Israel," he said. The mayor requested Indoreans to honour and welcome the sanitation workers in their streets and neighbourhoods on Friday, a day after the award is announced. Indore's strong claim for the top position is bolstered by several key initiatives undertaken by the IMC as part of the 2024 Swachh Survekshan Toolkit. This year, IMC established a new plant for processing green waste, while its plants for cloth waste and glass waste processing are underway. IMC has also transformed some wards, zones, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and even slums into 'zero waste' areas and is making efforts to get this tag for Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya (zoo) and Choithram Sabzi Mandi (wholesale vegetable market). "This year, we did route rationalisation of the existing 575 door-to-door garbage collection vehicles by introducing 61 new routes. Besides, 100 electric-run D2D have been introduced as a step towards environmental conservation," IMC additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra said. He added that Indore's robust system for road cleaning, waste collection, and waste disposal remains its core strength, unmatched by many other cities. The city's residents also play a crucial role, demonstrating high awareness and refraining from littering. While Surat significantly improved its door-to-door waste collection last year, achieving similar scores to Indore, Indore's comprehensive and consistently implemented system provides a strong foundation for its continued lead. NGOs engaged with IMC have been carrying out massive campaigns throughout the year for clean air drives, rainwater harvesting systems, segregation of waste in six categories, zero waste events, and other activities to increase public participation to help maintain cleanliness.

Pumped storage policy to boost green energy investment in state
Patna: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the Bihar Pumped Storage Promotion Policy, 2025, which marks a major milestone in Bihar's renewable energy journey, aiming to attract clean energy investments and develop long-term energy storage solutions. In comparison to other states, Bihar policy offers more investor-friendly incentives. Developers will be exempted from water cess during the initial reservoir filling. They will also receive concessions on intra-state power transmission charges. Moreover, no contribution will be required towards Local Area Development Fund, and the state will not demand any free royalty power from these projects, making Bihar one of the most attractive destinations for pumped storage investment in India. Under the new policy, the govt will facilitate early identification and allocation of non-forest land for such projects. District administrations and BIADA have been instructed to expedite proposals for land allocation. A dedicated single-window clearance system is also being developed by energy department to streamline approvals and provide timely support to investors. Private players will be encouraged to set up projects under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said in the National Electricity Plan (NEP) 2022-32 of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), energy storage is essential to incorporate the excess renewable energy into the grid. "Keeping in mind the resolution of net-zero carbon emission by 2070, the Bihar govt is committed to sustainable energy development," he said. The policy will help balance the intermittency of renewable resources like solar and wind. This is especially crucial for a growing economy like Bihar, where ensuring round-the-clock power supply through clean sources is key to inclusive development. Energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said this policy will further position Bihar as a frontrunner in India's green energy transition. "It will unlock new avenues for investment, innovation, and employment," he said. Mahendra Kumar, the managing director of of Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited, termed the policy a game changer. "It will not only accelerate energy sector growth but also establish Bihar as a self-reliant and environmentally responsible state," he said.

IMC to ‘QuickSaaf' Waste On Demand
Indore: India's cleanest city, Indore, is set to rev olutionise its waste management model with the introduction of an on-demand waste collection facility, accessible through a dedicated mobile application. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This innovative service aims to bring a new level of convenience and efficiency to waste disposal. According to Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra, the new facility will be offered via a specialised portal linked to the existing 311 app. "We already have a successful model with our 311 app to receive any complaint or request related to civic issues and ensure a quick response and prompt redressal," Mishra said. He added that the new on-demand waste collection service, initially named 'QuickSaaf', may be rebranded if deemed necessary after approval from the IMC Council. He added that the service will be best suited for bulk collection, events, C&D waste along with cleaning of big or perticular areas including waterbody periphery. To initiate a request, consumers will simply log in with their mobile number and OTP, then choose between a 'Cleaning' or 'Collection' option. The service is anticipated to launch within a month. The on-demand service will feature a transparent fee structure. For 'Cleaning' requests, charges will vary based on the area and nature of the cleaning required, including construction & demolition (C&D) waste or waterbody periphery cleaning. For the 'Collection' option, consumers will be charged based on the distance for pickup and transport of the waste. To facilitate accurate pricing and service provision, users will need to provide details such as the expected weight of the garbage, a description of the items, and upload accompanying photos or videos. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In the 'pickup waste collection' category, consumers will also have the flexibility to select the appropriate vehicle type – either a dumper or a tipper – based on their specific requirements. They will also need to choose a preferred date, time slot, and pickup location. Once the online payment is completed, the application will be accepted, and the applicant will receive an online booking receipt for their order. IMC is well-equipped to process nearly all types of waste, including C&D, plastic, and green waste. For specialised materials like batteries, the civic body has empanelled private partners to ensure proper disposal. The charges for the service have been meticulously calculated, factoring in the workers and resources needed for cleaning, as well as vehicle fuel consumption, maintenance, and the cost of drivers and helpers for waste pickup and transport.
