Why Draymond advised Kuminga to ‘embrace' GP2-type of role
Warriors forward Draymond Green offered teammate Jonathan Kuminga stern advice about how to approach his ever-changing role in the relatively newfound absence of Gary Payton II (thumb).

Here's what the four-time NBA champion had to say on Friday's edition of the 'Draymond Green Show' podcast with co-host and ex-Golden State guard Baron Davis:
'I think there's been so much chatter about JK and what he needs to do and how he needs to find his lane and this, that and other,' Green prefaced to Davis.
'What I will say with GP being out is, if I'm Jonathan Kuminga, forget what everybody's talking about, forget what everybody's saying, I'm saying, 'GP, I want to guard the best guard when I come in the game. I want to be the point-of-attack defender. I'm [going to] hawk this guard. I'm going to change the momentum of the game. I'm going to embrace that.''
Green wants the 6-foot-8, 210-pound Kuminga to use his frame and two-way potential to emerge as the lockdown defender the Warriors need with Payton out for a lengthy period.

That will be a tough – but feasible – task for Kuminga.
Before partially tearing a left thumb ligament against the Miami Heat, Payton was a Swiss Army Knife in coach Steve Kerr's rotation. Over 58 games, Payton averaged 6.6 points, 3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game on 58.5 percent shooting from the field with 2.6 steals and 0.8 blocks per 100 possessions.
Conversely, Kuminga is known for his scoring and has averaged a career-high 16.3 points per game on a career-low 45.3 percent shooting during the 2024-25 NBA season.
'Because we know [Kuminga] can score, right, like we know what he is capable of on the offensive end,' Green told Davis. 'Imagine him embracing [Payton's] role and saying, 'I'm guarding the best [player]. I'm picking up [from full court]. I'm going to work myself to exhaustion because I'm going to defend so hard.'

'That's how you win championships. And so, if I'm Jonathan Kuminga, that's my mindset. And I think he's more than capable of being that and doing that. And if he does, golly – changes everything.'
There always is plenty of chatter surrounding Kuminga's game, potential and role. So, Green publicly advised Kuminga to ignore everyone and focus on stepping up in Payton's absence, which is something totally up the four-year wing's alley.
After all, Payton likely will miss Golden State's final 10 games of the regular season.

Bogoljub Marković and Mark Sears were heavily featured in a video published by the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, detailing their behind-the-scenes work surrounding the 2025 NBA draft. The Bucks selected Marković with the 47th pick from Serbia and signed Sears to a two-way contract as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama. Marković suited up with the team in the NBA Summer League while Sears didn't play due to a calf strain. The 13-minute video offered a look at the Bucks' draft war room with the front office and practice ahead of summer league. It also showed free agents Myles Turner and Cole Anthony joining the team in Las Vegas to sign their contracts. He scored in double figures twice, including a 14-point performance on July 13. Sears will split his time next season between the NBA and the Wisconsin Herd in the G League. OKC Thunder to play Trail Blazers four times before New Year's in 2025-26 season
It's August, which means the NBA has dropped its entire 2025-26 regular season schedule. It's an oasis in a desert content. Teams learned when and where they'll face their opponents ahead of the six-month campaign. The Oklahoma City Thunder will enter under the national spotlight. The NBA champions are a popular pick to repeat. They're tied for the most national television games at 34. Expect them to be the team most opponents circle in their calendar as their barometer test. Examining the Thunder's 2025-26 regular season, here is one quirky takeaway from their slate — they will play a Northwest Divisional foe four times before the calendar flips to 2026. They will play the Portland Trail Blazers four times within the first two months. The Thunder will travel to face the Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Nov. 5. They will then host Portland on Sunday, Nov. 23. Within the same month, they return to play at the Trail Blazers on Sunday, Nov. 30. Finally, the Thunder will host the Trail Blazers for their traditional New Year's Eve home game on Wednesday, Dec. 31. It's something OKC has done over the years. As both teams went in opposite directions, the Thunder have dominated the Trail Blazers over the last four years. They're on an active 16-game win streak that spans four seasons. Portland last beat OKC in April 2021. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has put up monster numbers against the rebuild squad. Now, this year's four matchups could be more exciting. The Trail Blazers hope to be competitive. They acquired Jrue Holiday and brought back Damian Lillard. While the latter will miss most of the season recovering from a torn Achilles, his return signals going for it. That said, the Thunder should still win the season series. They're the consensus best team in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers are still far away from being in the same stratosphere. It should be four wins for OKC early on to pad its record.
