Local Body Elections Set to be Announced Soon in Telangana
Minister Reddy indicated that the dates for the elections would be revealed shortly, following a cabinet meeting scheduled for tomorrow, June 16. He noted that the elections for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) would take priority, with Sarpanch and municipal elections to follow.
During his visit, Reddy urged unity among local leaders and highlighted the importance of prioritising public issues in the lead-up to the elections. With just 15 days remaining until voters head to the polls, he emphasised the need for leaders to rectify any lingering issues in their villages to ensure a smooth electoral process. The minister also indicated that only candidates with a strong likelihood of success would be chosen, adhering to reservation policies.
Additionally, Reddy announced that eligible farmers would receive their farmer's guarantee for all acres within the week, with bonuses deposited directly into their bank accounts as part of the preparations. He stressed the importance of local leaders in communicating the necessity of welfare schemes and completing the construction of Indiramma houses for beneficiaries in their respective villages.

Synopsis Andhra Pradesh Police have implicated former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy in a ₹3,500 crore liquor scam through a supplementary charge sheet, alleging his involvement in key policy decisions and APSBCL appointments. While not naming him as an accused, the SIT detailed meetings chaired by Reddy that facilitated the alleged irregularities. ANI The Andhra Pradesh Police has alleged in a supplementary charge sheet that former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy was involved in key decisions that led to the ₹3,500 crore liquor scam, but stopped short of naming him as an special investigation team (SIT) of state police alleged in a 124-page supplementary charge sheet that Reddy presided over numerous meetings that finalised appointments to Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Ltd (APSBCL) and led to policy changes to facilitate the alleged naming Reddy, the charge sheet elaborated on a June 21, 2019, meeting, saying, "The then Hon'ble chief minister had granted his approval for the interim arrangement by extending the licence period of A4 shops and licences granted to hybrid hypermarkets till 30.09.2019 and further directed to make all arrangements for procuring the premises for A4 shops and identifying the personnel for managing the A4 shops as they will be run as Govt. shops from 01.10.2019."The charge sheet also flagged a meeting in July "chaired by" Reddy where a number of shops, hiring of shop premises, shop infrastructure and manpower were discussed. "Accordingly, pursuant to such discussion, draft operational guidelines were also submitted for establishment and running of 35,000 retail outlets by APSBCL for approval of the government," it said. In its 305-page charge sheet filed in July, the SIT had linked Reddy to monthly kickbacks to the tune of ₹50-60 crore per month. So far, Reddy has not been named as an accused. The supplementary charge sheet also alleged that kickbacks were laundered through office boys and other low-profile individuals. The SIT has named former Andhra intelligence chief, IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu and consulting firm KPMG. Though KPMG officials have not been accused in the case, the supplementary charge sheet alleged that the accounting firm was hired without following due tender process only to give credence to a predetermined action to facilitate the alleged liquor had helped the government in shifting from automated indentation process to supplementary charge sheet said, "Several illegalities have been identified during the course of investigation while modifying the then existing Excise Policy in the year 2019. The hiring of the consultancy firm M/s. KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd. was intended to lend credibility to a flawed excise policy."

Bottle buy-back scheme in TASMAC outlets to be extended if successful, says Minister Muthusamy
Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise S. Muthusamy has said the empty liquor bottle buy-back scheme introduced by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) in the Nilgiris will be extended to other districts if it proves successful. The Minister, along with Collector S. Kandasamy, MLA V.C. Chandhirakumar, and Mayor S. Nagarathinam, launched the Chief Minister's Thayumanavar Scheme at Thindal in the city on Tuesday (August 12, 2025). The scheme aims to deliver ration items to elderly citizens and differently abled persons at their doorsteps. Speaking to reporters, he said similar bottle collection drives will be undertaken in two or three more districts, and if found effective, implemented State-wide. Clarifying misconceptions, he explained that ₹10 is not paid for empty bottles, but collected over the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) as a refundable deposit, returned upon bottle return. To address storage issues, space at TASMAC shops is being increased from 100–200 sq. ft. to 500 sq. ft. He noted that the Chief Minister is committed to gradually reducing TASMAC outlets, with 500 shops already shut, particularly near schools, temples, and other sensitive areas. Problem-prone outlets are being relocated or closed. Mr. Muthusamy said a study on using tetra packs is under way, but requires court approval. The decision will be based on inputs from political parties, the public, and the judiciary. Dismissing AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami's charge of revenue loss, he said any overcharging for bottles was the personal wrongdoing of individuals, not the government. Action has been taken against 451 employees involved in such cases, including withholding their pay hikes, the Minister added. In Erode district, essential commodities will be delivered directly to the homes of 1,01,953 beneficiaries (99,218 senior citizens aged above 70 years and 2,735 differently abled persons). These beneficiaries belong to 81,792 family ration cards attached to 1,263 fair price shops across the district.
