Kajol says a firm ‘No' to DDLJ sequel: ‘Nobody should care what happened after train scene'

Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are undoubtedly one of Bollywood's most beloved on-screen jodis and their blockbuster film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) continues to remain a cultural touchstone decades after its release. SRK and Kajol's magic isn't limited to just one film, they have also delivered hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, My Name Is Khan, and Dilwale, all of which struck a chord with audiences and performed well at the box office. While fans have always admired their electric on-screen chemistry, Kajol recently opened up about the real bond that she shares with Shah Rukh off-screen.
In a conversation with Instant Bollywood, she said, 'We've done too many movies together at different phases of our lives. We got married, we had our kids, we led our separate lives. We've been friends for a very long time. We've seen each other grow. It is a lifetime of working with each other, and great friends are all about being with you throughout it all.'
What truly stands out for Kajol is Shah Rukh Khan's work ethic and presence on set. She shared, 'I admire that man so much. I'll just say that I've never seen a man being so present on set. He knows everybody's lines. He's not living in his own head. He is present. He will make sure he is committed to what he is doing, 100%.'

But for fans hoping for a sequel to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kajol has a firm stance—it's a no. 'They should never make DDLJ 2,' she said, adding, 'They should leave it at Simran climbing the train. Nobody should care what happened post that—kisne kisko maara hai, kitne bachche hue (who fought who, how many children they had). We don't discuss marriage after that. It's done and dusted. Nobody wants to know what happened to Raj and Simran after the train scene.' For Kajol, the story ended perfectly—and trying to continue it would only take away from its magic.
In the same interview, Kajol also spoke fondly of another close friend from the film industry, Karan Johar. 'It's very difficult to maintain relationships in today's date, and Karan Johar is friends with a lot of people. I really admire that about him. It's not easy,' said Kajol.

While Kajol, Ajay Devgn and Mani Ratnam supported Deepika Padukone, Chitrangda Singh, who is basking in the success of Housefull 5, shared that it all depends on an actor's equation with their director and producer read more Deepika Padukone's demand for an eight-hour shift post-embracing motherhood has created a stir in the industry. While Kajol, Ajay Devgn and Mani Ratnam supported the actress, Chitrangda Singh, who is basking in the success of Housefull 5, shared that it all depends on an actor's equation with their director and producer. 'This is about the personal relationship between an actor's understanding with the director, the requirements of a director, the requirements of a producer- If they can, I am sure they will manage. But at times there are restrains- restrain of time, restrain of money, scheduling, so it is not possible. So, I think we also have to respect that aspect, because after all, time is money in this industry- everybody is investing in a project," Singh shared while talking to IANS. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'So I feel it is everyone's own choice and I think Deepika is a very big actress and it is her right to make a choice, it's her privilege to make a choice," she added. While the fiasco between Deepika and Vanga has been garnering headlines for quite some time, an earlier report emerged discussing the actress's demands for Spirit. 'The actor had reportedly demanded ₹25 crores for approximately 35 days of shoot, along with a 10% profit share, extensive entourage expenses, and even expressed unwillingness to deliver dialogues in Telugu—something the director felt strongly about. To top it off, confidential plot details from Spirit were allegedly leaked, which raised serious concerns among the producers," the source told News18. According to the report, Sandeep 'believes actors speaking their own lines'. 'Contrary to speculation, her restricted filming schedule of under 8 hours a day was never the primary issue. In filmmaking, working hours are fluid and depend on location, lighting, and various technical factors. You could shoot for 2 hours or 8, depending on the scene. What truly matters is flexibility, collaboration, and respect for the craft. It's about commitment. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga believes actors speaking their own lines builds authenticity and emotional connect with the audience," the source added.

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have always been seen as one of Bollywood's most admired couples. The two got married on 25 October 1991 after years of dating and are proud parents to Aryan, Suhana and AbRam Khan. Their love story stands out for how they've embraced each other's beliefs with respect and humour, showing that love goes beyond religion. The whispering guests at the wedding In a throwback episode of the ' Farida Jalal Show', Shah Rukh shared an unforgettable moment from their wedding reception. He remembered how several guests, especially elders from his extended family, were quietly discussing whether Gauri would change her religion after marriage. The 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' actor recalled, 'I remember when their whole family, old-fashioned people, were sitting there, whispering in Punjabi, 'Will he change the girl's name? Will she become a Muslim?'' To lighten the mood and poke fun at the whispers, SRK pulled a cheeky prank. He told Gauri, 'Put on your 'burqa' and let's read the namaaz now.' He continued, 'From now on, she will wear a burqa all the time, never leave the house, and her name will be Ayesha.' The guests were taken aback at first, but soon realised it was a 'Chennai Express' actor then explained that it was all said in humour and not meant seriously. He further said, 'I had a lot of fun, but the lesson in all of this was that one should respect religion but it should not come in the way of love. But, it was a great wedding and it's still going on strong.' No space for religious differences at their home The 'Om Shanti Om' actor had again spoke about religion and family during an appearance on the dance reality show 'Dance Plus 5' in 2020. He also shared how their children see themselves, 'When my kids were asked at school what religion they belonged to, they wrote 'Indian'.'
