Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine booked for allegedly cheating producer; actor shares statement: ‘The truth will prevail'

A case has been registered against Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and filmmaker Abrid Shine following a complaint by Mahaveeryar co-producer PS Shamnas, accusing them of financial fraud, police said on Thursday. An FIR under section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC was registered on Wednesday night against Pauly and Shine. According to PTI, PS Shamnas has accused Nivin Pauly of not paying him the promised compensation of Rs 95 lakh after the failure of their film Mahaveeryar. As per the complaint, the actor had assured this compensation along with a partnership in his upcoming film Action Hero Biju 2, which was to be directed by Abrid Shine. Shamnas alleged that based on this promise, he invested a hefty sum of Rs 1.9 crore in Nivin's new project. Shamnas also claimed that while the new film was initially registered under his own production house — Indian Movie Makers — Nivin allegedly entered into a Rs 5 crore distribution deal with a Dubai-based firm. He further accused the actor of accepting Rs 2 crore in advance from the Dubai company and cited a prior agreement that showed the film being registered under Nivin's production banner, not Shamnas'. Nivin Pauly responded to the cheating allegations via social media, stating that a court-directed arbitration is already underway in the matter. He added that despite a gag order issued by the court, a new police case was filed by the co-producer. He wrote, 'The dispute has been under court-directed arbitration since May 28, 2025, with a gag order in place to ensure confidentiality. Despite this, a new police case has been registered in violation of the court's directives, suppressing the ongoing arbitration proceedings and distorting facts. We will take appropriate legal action. The truth will prevail.'

Did Rajnikanth decide to star in Coolie just after listening to first half? Lokesh Kanagaraj reveals

Coolie, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is slated to release in theaters on August 14, 2025. Ahead of the film hitting big screens, the director was seen in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The director revealed that the superstar gave him the nod of approval just by hearing the first half. Rajinikanth agreed to play lead in Coolie just by hearing the first half? Speaking at the interview, Lokesh Kanagaraj said, 'I didn't expect him to say yes. I narrated only the first half and paused at the interval block to ask if he'd be interested. He immediately said yes. I hadn't even written the second half yet. When I returned a couple of months later with the complete script, he loved it.' Interestingly, in the same interview, Lokesh revealed how hard it was for him to convince Nagarjuna Akkineni to play the antagonist. The Leo helmer revealed that the actor made him narrate the film 6-7 times before finally giving his approval. Lokesh recalled how, when he finally went with a bound script to Nagarjuna, the actor agreed to play a negative role and told him, 'Okay, Lokesh. If I don't do this now, when will I?' Moreover, the director added that casting action stars like Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Sathyaraj together in the Rajinikanth starrer was fueled by a childhood dream after growing up watching their movies. About Coolie Coolie is an upcoming Tamil-language movie starring Rajinikanth in the lead role. The action entertainer is speculated to feature the story of an aging gold smuggler, Deva, who devises a plan to revive his old gang to swindle hidden technology being imported illegally. How does Deva manage to succeed in his plan, and what obstacles he is set to face form the entire story. With Nagarjuna Akkineni and Upendra Rao in supporting roles, the film will also have Aamir Khan making a cameo appearance. Apart from them, the movie will have Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and many more in key parts. Coolie is musically crafted by Anirudh Ravichander, with the makers having already unveiled the first two singles, Chikitu and Monica. Interestingly, the second single featured Pooja Hegde dancing to the tunes.

From Jest To Jolt: What Fadnavis' 'Offer' To Uddhav Really Means

In politics, if something is said, even in a lighter vein, it is said with a purpose. That's why when Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered Uddhav Thackeray a chance to join the government during a speech in the Vidhan Parishad, it created a stir in the state's political circles. While Fadnavis may have spoken in jest, the remark has been interpreted differently in Maharashtra's political landscape. Political analysts are primarily asking two questions: first, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has a comfortable majority in the state assembly, so why does it need to bring Uddhav Thackeray on board? Second, if such a thing actually happens, what will be Eknath Shinde's position? Land Of The Absurd Events following the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections show us that anything is possible in this state's politics. Enemies can become friends, and parties can split overnight. A Chief Minister's swearing-in ceremony can take place before sunrise. The Mahayuti government, spearheaded by the BJP, enjoys an overwhelming majority in the 288-seat Legislative Assembly. The BJP (132), along with the Shiv Sena (57) and the Nationalist Congress Party, or NCP (41), has 230 seats, far above the majority mark of 145. Despite this consolidated position, if the BJP is extending an invitation to an opposition party to join the government, it likely has two plausible motives: one, it intends to further weaken the opposition MVA alliance by poaching its biggest constituent. Two, it wants to replace one of its current alliance partners in the Mahayuti. If it's the second case, the obvious question is, whom does the BJP want to replace? Fadnavis shares a cordial relationship with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and both leaders are aligned on most issues. However, the same cannot be said about his equation with the other Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. Shinde And His Discontent Since the last Vidhan Sabha results, Shinde has reportedly been upset for various reasons. His first disappointment came when the BJP chose to make Fadnavis the Chief Minister instead of him. After assuming charge, Fadnavis overturned certain decisions taken by Shinde during his tenure as Chief Minister. Enquiries were also ordered into some contracts awarded under Shinde's leadership. Moreover, decisions such as the mandatory clearance of names by the Chief Minister's Office for the appointment of private secretaries by ministers have not gone down well with the Shinde Sena. Shinde's party is already in hot water due to a series of controversies involving its leaders. MLA Sanjay Gaikwad attracted bad press after punishing a canteen worker over stale food. A video showing Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) minister Sanjay Shirsat with a bag full of currency notes also caused embarrassment for Shinde. Such controversies are denting Fadnavis's efforts to deliver clean governance. Unease Grows Shinde is also in a difficult spot over the Hindi versus Marathi issue. While the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the MNS aggressively protested against a government circular mandating Hindi as the third language in primary schools, the Shinde Sena, being a part of the Mahayuti alliance, could not join the protest. Moreover, the education portfolio is held by a BJP minister. There is a growing feeling within Shinde's camp that not taking an anti-Hindi stand could cost them in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. So far, Uddhav Thackeray's party has not taken Fadnavis's offer seriously. But if recent political history in Maharashtra is any indication, what is speculation today could very well become reality tomorrow.
