Fire rages for 28 hours at chem godown, 1 worker dead
The deceased was identified as Samadhan Bhojale, a resident of Kalyan (east), who leaves behind his wife and a son. He was employed at one of the chemical godowns in the complex. During the firefighting operation, a charred body was found around 1.30 am on Sunday.
A fire official said that the body was sent to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi. Senior inspector Vijay Kadbane of Narpoli police station, told TOI, "The man was identified from an Aadhaar card found near the body."
A probe suggests that due to the fire, a chemical drum kept in the godown exploded, and flames engulfed Bhojale, who tried to escape collapsed. Multiple chemical drums reportedly exploded during the incident, intensifying the fire.

60 stone crushers sealed in Haridwar under HC order
Haridwar: A total of 60 stone crushers along the Ganga in Haridwar, from Railwala to Bhogpur, were sealed by the district administration during a two-day drive following a high court directive that ordered the sealing of 48 stone crushers within a 5km radius of the river. District mining officer Kazim Raza told TOI on Saturday, "While the court had directed action against 48 units, we extended the crackdown to all stone crushers located within a five-kilometre radius of the Ganga. Some of these were non-operational, but action was taken against them as well." The action follows a 2017 petition filed by Haridwar-based Matri Sadan, an ashram involved in environmental protection, which alleged unauthorised mining in the river and raised concerns of rampant quarrying threatening the sustainability of the river. Haridwar DM Mayur Dixit told TOI, "Electricity connections in these units have been disconnected. Earlier, we had also shut down their online portal and ordered stern action against illegal mining. " Matri Sadan has also sought security for the ashram. "We have written several letters requesting protection, as the mining lobby may target us, but no action has been taken. Now we are going to file a separate petition in the high court on Monday," said Brahmachari Sudhanand, a seer of Matri Sadan involved in the litigation, adding that all stone crushers within the restricted zone should be shut down permanently. Stranger saves Bareilly man moments before being buried alive by wife, kin
Bareilly: He was alive but moments from being buried — limbs shattered, dumped beside what would have been a shallow grave carved out in the forest floor — when an unknown man, walking through the woods on the edge of Bareilly appeared. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The attackers, caught off guard, scattered into the darkness. Left behind was Rajiv Kumar, 35, bloodied and barely breathing and conscious. Police said his wife and her five brothers were among the 11 people who had brought him there with the intent to kill. Rajiv, a doctor's assistant at Navodaya Hospital, had been ambushed on the night of July 21 at his rented home under Izzatnagar police station limits. He was beaten until his arms and legs fractured, then forced into a vehicle and driven to a forested area in CB Ganj. Investigators believe the pit where he was found had already been dug. The assailants had begun the final stage of their plan when the stranger walked by and raised an alarm. Not just that, he called for an ambulance, helped move Rajiv out, and left quietly. "We don't know who he was," said Rajiv's father, Netram Kumar. "He arrived just in time and saved my son. Then he disappeared." Rajiv remains hospitalised and under treatment for multiple injuries. Speaking to TOI, he alleged that his wife Sadhana had tried to harm him earlier. "She wants a divorce. A while ago, she put crushed glass in my food. She has been trying to kill me. We are living separately now." The couple married in 2009 and have two sons, aged 14 and 8, enrolled in a private school. Although Rajiv owns a house in his native village, the family had been living in a rented flat in the city—reportedly at Sadhana's insistence. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police believe the murder attempt was meticulously planned. "She convinced her brothers to help her," Netram said. "They brought hired men, beat my son, tied him up, took him into the forest and began to bury him. They were minutes away from finishing it." The FIR names Sadhana, her brothers Bhagwan Das, Premraj, Harish, and Laxman, along with one unidentified sibling and four others believed to have been hired for the attack. Police have filed an FIR against them under BNS sections 191 (rioting), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 110 (attempting to commit culpable homicide), 352 (breach of peace), and 351 (criminal intimidation). SP (city) Manush Pareek said, "The assault began at the victim's home on the night of July 21. We are trying to arrest the accused." Rajiv, unconscious and blood-soaked when the ambulance reached him, has since been stabilised. His father, sitting beside his bed, keeps repeating one thought: the man who saved him came without warning, said nothing, and vanished. But in that moment, he did everything that mattered.

Boy, 17, found dead hours after police station visit, family alleges torture
Agra: A 17-year-old boy was found dead with injury marks on his body, including his private parts, on Saturday morning, hours after returning from a police station in Chandra Bhanpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, where he had been called for questioning about the disappearance of a girl of the same age. While senior police officers said Satyaveer Singh died by suicide, his family said he was tortured and held in illegal custody. However, five policemen involved in the case have been attached to police lines. Satyaveer had recently returned home from Nashik, Maharashtra, where he worked at a private company. His father, Mohar Singh, said Satyaveer was summoned to the police station several times over eight days before he and his elder son Bhuri took him to Nidholi Kalan police station around 7pm on Friday. Mohar said, "The cops made the two of us sit outside. Then we heard Satyaveer crying. Sub-inspector Surendra Singh Yadav, Asif Ali and three constables were thrashing him. When we approached SHO Raj Kumar Chauhan, he asked for Rs 50,000. We gave him the money and he said they would release my son. At around 5am on Aug 2, we found his body 500 metres from the village, with deep injury marks all over, including on his private parts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo " Satyaveer's brother Yogendra said his sibling had no involvement in the girl's disappearance and his name was not even mentioned in the FIR, which TOI accessed. The family claimed police left the boy near the village in a critical condition instead of taking him to a hospital and demanded a magisterial enquiry. On Saturday morning, the family brought Satyaveer's body to SSP Shyam Narayan Singh's office on a tractor-trolley and protested, demanding immediate action. They also submitted a written complaint to DM Prem Ranjan Singh. Attempts by TOI to contact the DM were unsuccessful. The SSP said, "Satyaveer came to the station with his brother and was sent back after routine questioning. CCTV footage is being examined and the postmortem will clarify the cause of death. If any officer is found guilty of harassment or torture, strict action will follow. Five policemen, including both sub-inspectors, have been attached to police lines." A senior lawyer, Prashant Pundhir, questioned the legality of the detention. "This was illegal custody. His name was not in the case diary. As per law, minors and women cannot be taken into custody after sunset. Police must inform the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board before detaining a minor. None of these procedures were followed. He was kept overnight, which violates all norms." Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
