Costco employees were divided after a video of a spotless break room celebrating 'Fresh Fruit Friday' went viral — with many pointing out they still have to pay for most of the items.
A worker posted the clip on TikTok, showing six baskets of fruit, refrigerators, freezers, and a drink station.
The video quickly racked up nearly 5 million views, with some viewers calling the room 'amazing' while others zeroed in on the hidden catch.
'This is honestly disappointing that it's not free for the employees — I'm sure you can afford it, Costco,' one user replied to the post.
'At least the water is free, but when's the last time those filters were changed?,' another person commented.
'Fresh fruit Friday' has been billed internally as a perk, but workers say there's a price tag attached to almost everything in the room.
'Costco employee here. We don't get that fresh fruit, but everything else is accurate. You have to pay for anything you want, none of it is free,' one commenter wrote.
Other Costco staffers weighed in, calling the clip 'misleading' and claiming such setups are rare.
'As an employee, I laugh at this. My break room is far from this. They should've filmed the inside of the employee fridge too for people to see,' one said.
Some long‑time employees were blunter: 'I worked for Costco for 10 years and we never had that. Maybe a couple of vending machines and stale muffins that we had to pay for,' one wrote.

The viral video comes amid broader frustration from workers.
Just days earlier, an employee warned that a new policy allowing Executive members to shop an hour earlier than everyone else has been tough on staff, with many already struggling to keep up with normal workloads.
Costco employees have frequent gripes about stores and customers, from shoppers sneaking pets into stores to parents letting children use portable toilets in the aisles.
Customers have their own complaints, grumbling about big families who walk shoulder‑to‑shoulder and block aisles.
Slow-moving shoppers travelling around in groups is among Costco shoppers biggest gripes.
'First of all, your spouse and kids are one thing,' one frustrated shopper wrote on Reddit.
'But why bring pee paw, mee maw, your brother, your cousin, your second aunt twice removed, her 8 kids and the guy you met at the ball game?'
Other customers are angry with the company, rather than employees, for swapping from Pepsi to Coca Cola products and price hike s.
Meanwhile, a little-known policy is also going vital. Costco shoppers have long loved the chain's famous free samples — but few knew the real rules.
For years, the big‑box giant has lined its warehouses with stations handing out free bites of everything from frozen pizza to imported chocolates. Most members figured the perk came with an unspoken limit — maybe one sample per person.
But it has emerged Costco — which has standard memberships costing $65 and Executive memberships $130 — has no cap on the number of samples its members can take.
