EastEnders wedding thrown into chaos as Kat calls things off with Alfie

Metro2 days ago

A misunderstanding puts Kat Slater's (Jessie Wallace) wedding to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) in jeopardy next week, but will the EastEnders finally have reason to celebrate?
It's been quite a quick turnaround for the couple, who are engaged this week in the spur of the moment.
Kat had invested in a new limousine business, and when Alfie decided to stage a fake wedding shoot, he decided to put the wheels into motion and make it official.
Little did they realise, trouble was brewing back at home, as son Tommy (Sonny Kendall) used Alfie's credit card to purchase pornography online.
In upcoming scenes, Kat's left reeling after stumbling across the explicit video on the family laptop – completely unaware that it was actually Tommy who bought it.
Assuming the worst, she opens up to Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), fearing that her fiancé might be turning to adult content, especially with things having cooled off in the bedroom since his cancer treatment.
Blissfully unaware and trying to reignite the spark, Alfie whips up a romantic meal, but Kat beats him to it – arriving in full seduction mode.
The atmosphere soon turns frosty when Alfie slows things down, and a wounded and offended Kat storms off.
Jean urges Kat to have an honest chat with her partner, while Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) gives Alfie his own shoulder to cry on.
Eventually, the pair sit down for a long-overdue heart-to-heart, hoping to make amends from the situation they've found themselves in. But the peace is short-lived when Kat brings up that video. As the situation escalates, they realise that Tommy is the one responsible.
The teen has developed a worrying obsession with adult content, ever since striking up a friendship with newcomer Joel Marshall (Max Murray).
His dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and Ross' girlfriend Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) both believe that he could do with some positive male influences, and are pleased to see him bonding with Tommy over his wedding speech.
What they don't realise is that both lads are entrapped in a dangerous web of online content.
On-off EastEnders couple Kat Slater and Alfie Moon have a long and complicated history, which began when they were part of a will-they-won't-they storyline while working behind the bar of the Queen Vic in 2002.
After finally getting together, they tied the knot on Christmas Day 2003, but were ripped apart a year later by Kat's jealous ex, gangster Andy Hunter (Michael Higgs), who threatened to kill Alfie unless Kat slept with him.
Realising their feelings for one another were still there, they gave their marriage another shot and left Walford for pastures new at the end of 2005.
Five years later, they made a bombshell comeback when it was revealed Kat had been having an affair with Alfie's cousin Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd) and was pregnant with his son.
They eventually reconciled, with Alfie agreeing to bring Tommy up as his own. However, they were heartbroken when their baby 'died' – before it was later revealed Ronnie Mitchell had actually swapped their baby with her son James, who had died from cot death.
After a joyous reunion with baby Tommy, the pair were torn apart again when Kat's subsequent affair with Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) was exposed.
But a reconciliation eventually followed – as did their twin sons Bert and Ernie – before Kat and Alfie swapped the Square for Spain in 2016 after winning big on the lottery.
Two years later, a broke Kat returned to Walford having split from Alfie again, after cheating on him. When he later followed home, the couple had a short-lived reunion before Alfie was revealed as the father of Kat's cousin Hayley Slater's (Katie Jarvis) baby daughter Cherry.
With their relationship in tatters, Alfie did a bunk from Walford in 2019 after scamming £50k out of Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who Kat later went on to have an unlikely relationship with.
When Alfie returned to Albert Square again three years later, he sabotaged Kat's wedding to Phil, but it wasn't enough to split them up and they rescheduled their nuptials.
However, after Kat discovered Phil had cheated on her with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit), the pair split and she moved in with Alfie.
As Kat and Alfie's big day rolls around, their happiness is already under threat. Worries about Tommy and the video loom large, and although Alfie vows to have a word with his son, chaos (in true Walford fashion) keeps getting in the way.
By the time he confesses to bungling several wedding tasks, Kat's had enough, and calls the whole thing off! More Trending
Uh-oh.
Alfie is left stunned and furious, charging out of The Vic in frustration. Meanwhile, Kat drowns her sorrows with Elaine Knight (Harriet Thorpe) and Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter), and the trio swap notes on love and loss, with Elaine (or should that be E-laine) offering some unexpected food for thought.
As Alfie gets a pep talk from someone unexpected, he's left wondering whether he and Kat still stand a chance.

Former BBC studios where EastEnders was filmed riddled with asbestos

A crumbling production complex where EastEnders and other iconic BBC TV shows have been filmed has been found to be riddled with asbestos. A pre-demolition survey of BBC Elstree Centre — sold to investment giant AXA IM Alts — shows that the substance is present across the buildings. Asbestos material was found in studios, a restaurant, the Central Technical Area, Hart House, the historic Fairbanks, a maintenance building and Neptune House, where Holby City was filmed. The new owners commissioned the survey as they turn the world-famous site in Borehamwood, north west London, into a film-making complex meeting modern standards. At the Art Deco-style studios where EastEnders, Children in Need and the BBC's General Election coverage have been filmed, the material was found in more than 150 different places. One sample was taken from insulation within a wall void and given a high priority classification. The inspectors found that the material was likely to be 'easily disturbed' and flagged it as 'remove.' Another sample taken from a restaurant block was classed as 'high priority'. However the material, used for thermal insulation, was judged 'usually inaccessible or unlikely to be disturbed.' Another sample was taken from stairs on the ground floor of studios M and C, according to the document released this week. The presence of the material was judged 'low risk' but Asbestos Consultants Europe Ltd recommended it be removed. AXA IM Alts said in January 2024 that it had exchanged contracts with the BBC for the 16-acre campus, with the deal due to be completed early this year. EastEnders will remain in an already modernised part of the site under a deal between the old and new owners to lease back part of the studio campus over the next 25 years. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The investment company has said in a planning application that 'the existing premises are no longer fit for purpose' and the redevelopment 'will boost the Elstree film industry.' The buyers, who are working with Oxygen Studios on the plans, intend to create a major new film and TV production complex with modern day requirements able to attract large-scale productions. The new development has been named Fairbanks Studios in tribute to actor Douglas Fairbanks, who leased studios on the site in 1952. The report was carried out to protect workers and others from 'asbestos containing materials' which might be unknowingly disturbed during demolition work. A spokesperson for AXA IM Alts said: 'We are fully aware of the presence of asbestos on the site which is common in old buildings and those that have been added to during their lifespan. More Trending 'These buildings are not currently in use and have not been occupied since we acquired them. 'Our development plans to transform the site into a fit for purpose, modern media campus already account for the safe removal of any asbestos using experts in this field and according to current regulations.' EastEnders fans distracted by hilarious detail in the background – did you spot it?

EASTENDERS fans were left distracted by a hilarious detail in the background of the action - did you spot it? Eagle-eyed fans usually spot slightly more subtle details in the BBC soap. 4 4 4 Taking to Reddit, a fan shared a screenshot they took of the BBC soap's local paper, Walford Gazette. On display in the background of a scene, the headline read: "Chicken Yoga Takes City By Storm". The viewer penned: "I love finding these 'made up headlines'. No spoiler. "I couldn't help but notice the headline on Walford Gazette probably says "Chicken Yoga Takes City By Storm." "Seriously, Chickens do Yogas?", adding a laughing face emoji. It's not the first time EastEnders fans have noticed funny details. Fans highlighted a gaffe in a recent scene featuring Kathy Beale. After spending the night with Harvey, Kathy sent him a text message saying: "Miss you already." However, viewers spotted a major blunder when Kathy held her phone upside down. Taking to X - formerly Twitter - one fan wrote: "at least try holding it the right way round #EastEnders". Shock EastEnders death rocks Walford as major secret is revealed Another replied: "Awe leave her she's old and trying to figure out how a phone works." A third joked: "Well she could see enough to be smiling about Harvey so it did the job." Viewers also previously spotted an editing blunder - with a character seemingly appearing out of nowhere. Jean Slater had been looking after her great-granddaughter Charli but was determined to find out where Charli's mum, and her own granddaughter, Lily, had got to. As she walked through the door, Jean was clearly pushing an empty pram as she could be heard leaving a voicemail to Lily. Jean Slater's biggest EastEnders storylines Gillian Wright has played Jean Slater on EastEnders since December 2005. The star was only supposed to be a guest-character in a storyline with her on-screen daughter Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), who would struggle to look after her. However she soon became a regular on Albert Square and has since been involved in some major storylines. Jean is known among the square for having bipolar disorder and issues with her mental health. The first storyline involved Stacey getting help as she was forced to check her into a psychiatric hospital for her own safety. After her first departure in 2010, she made a dramatic comeback where she was put in the centre of a major storyline. She embarked on an unlikely relationship with Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd), however he tricks her to give him a large sum of money. As a result, she becomes the prime suspect of the murder of Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison) before he scams her again to pay for his wedding to Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks). The actress decides to leave the soap again in 2013, so bosses decided to introduce actor Tony O'Callaghan as love interest Ollie Walters. After he confesses his love for her, she then moves down to Brighton with him. After several guest returns, she made a full-time comeback in 2018 alongside Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Mo (Laila Morse). She was later put at the centre of a major storyline when she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. Having got through the door pushing the empty pram, a close-up shot then zoomed in to reveal Charli sat in the pram. One fan raged at show bosses: " EastEnders are really getting lazy when it comes to checking their scenes before adding them into the episode cause tell me why Jean's pushing an empty f***ing pushchair then suddenly a childs in it." Another added: "I was laughing so much when I seen this big L from the camera man." EastEnders airs on BBC One and iPlayer. 4
