FIVE vans have been donated to non-governmental organisations in Kulai, Johor, to help the underprivileged, including the elderly and people with special needs.
Johor MCA public services and complaints bureau chief Chua Jian Boon said one of the vans was donated to Kulai Besar volunteer fire brigade.
'I hope the van can help in their activities, as they are also involved in catching snakes and wild monkeys in the area.'
Another beneficiary was Kampung Baru Kulai, a Chinese new village that Chua said needed the vehicle to transport old folks to hospital and clinics.
Another van went to Kulai Buddhist Association which ferries children, including those with special needs, to tuition classes and extracurricular activities.
One van each went to Surau An-Najah and Masjid Al-Ehsan for funeral management purposes.
Chua thanked Kelab Sukan dan Reakreasi Malaysia for helping to raise RM100,000 for the vehicle assistance project.
Chua, who is also Johor Mentri Besar's special aid for Chinese affairs, said that not being an elected representative did not stop him from reaching out to help the community in terms of assistance, medical subsidies, and tuition classes for the less privileged.

Laman MADANI In Mantin Provides Recreational Space For Over 30,000 Residents

NILAI, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- More than 30,000 residents in Mantin can now enjoy their own recreational space following the completion of Laman MADANI last March. State Local Government, Housing and Transport Development Action Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar said the project was driven by the community's need for a large-scale recreational area, which had been lacking compared to other districts. He added that the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) allocated RM500,000 for the construction of Laman MADANI, while the pedestrian walkway, also costing RM500,000, was managed by the Seremban City Council (MBS).

Mutton or pork? Mystery meat at ‘Muslim-friendly' eatery causes confusion, alarm online

AS PREVIOUSLY pointed out, issue of a restaurant's halal status is of great importance to Muslim diners. This was again highlighted by a post by popular culinary influencer Amin Sukor a.k.a. Abang Ameen in a Facebook post where it was claimed that a restaurant popular with Muslim diners had 'mystery meats' stored in its cold room. The issue was originally highlighted by Rose_amalina (profile locked) which asked what meat was pictured next to the poultry carcasses in the freezer. The enquirer further cast aspersions on the manner the poultry that was slaughtered in the supposedly halal-certified restaurant. Aside from being stored next to the mystery meat which the restauranteur claimed was mutton, she asked if the slaughter was done in accordance to Islamic requirements. Editor's Note: A quick check on the Farmer Village restaurant's social media does not show the Bandar Teknologi Kajang eatery claiming to be halal-certified or even Muslim-friendly. But its menu seems to be porcine-free. In fact, mutton seems to be heavily featured in its various dishes. The 'mystery meat' was discovered by a staff member who has since reported the finding to the authorities. But it appears no action has been forthcoming leading Rose_amalina to wonder if the owner of the Farmer Village restaurant was 'protected'. The post sharing the uncomfortable discovery has since generated 3.2K likes, 875 comments and 1.6K shares, denoting that the issue has plenty of traction. One commenter claimed that the younger generation of Muslims were too keen to be 'hipsters', an insinuation that they were modern and casual to halal requirements. This was not what their parents taught them. She also lamented that any query on a restaurant's halal status was often met with rudeness even if it is a cashier who will retort as if they were the proprietor. It was further claimed that Chinese eateries cannot be trusted even if they possess the halal certification given the Chinese tend to just prepare food as they see fit. It did not matter if Muslim diners were deceived as long as there was profit to be made. One observer was stunned at how many Muslim customers would queue to dine at obviously non-Muslim establishments when he travelled through Ipoh. They seem very confident of the 'pork-free, no lard' claims by these restaurants, he opined. One commenter was at pains to highlight the differences between properly certified halal restaurants with one that merely denotes 'no pork or lard' is used to prepare the food. Another confirmed that the restaurant is NOT listed on JAKIM's website as a halal-certified establishment. For many, the fact that the restaurant is Chinese-owned is reason enough to NOT dine there regardless of whether it is halal-certified or displays 'pork- and lard-free' signage. Many Muslim diners would only be satisfied and feel at ease if the restaurant was Muslim-owned. This underlines their belief that no other Muslim would knowingly feed a fellow Muslim haram food. It boils down to an issue of trust. If in doubt, Muslim diners are free to patronise any number of halal-certified eateries. But as this issue rumbles on, it will be a matter of time before the more conservative elements demand that Muslims can only dine in halal-certified restaurants as mandated in PAS-ruled Kelantan. Such a decree will not only affect restaurants like Farmer Village but thousands of Muslim-owned businesses that do NOT possess such certification. Is this the route Malaysians want to take? – Aug 18, 2025 Main image credit: Amin Sukor/Facebook

Youth group hands out 350 flags

Shared pride: Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam Johor Baru Youth distributing national flags to buskers in the city centre. JOHOR BARU: With the Jalur Gemilang held high and proudly waved, a youth group here has taken upon itself to spread patriotism by distributing 350 national flags to the public in conjunction with the National Day month. The initiative by the Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam Johor Baru Youth is aimed at reminding Malaysians that flying the national flag is a shared duty and symbol of national pride. Turning pride into action, the group filled the streets with fluttering flags, determined to safeguard the dignity of the Jalur Gemilang. Group chairman S. Vinodtheran said this was the first time the association had carried out such a programme, handing out 300 handheld flags and 50 car flags to the public within an hour. 'In addition, a total of about 500 flags of various sizes including national and state were displayed at the temple grounds as well as those distributed to the public,' he told reporters before the flags distribution at the Arulmigu Rajamariamman Devasthanam temple here yesterday. Vinodtheran said if the association received more contributions, it would hold another round of flag distribution. 'For now, we only distribute the flags today. But it depends, if we receive more, then we will certainly do it,' he said. Vinodtheran added that the initiative was made possible through a RM7,000 allocation from the state government, which the association received for the first time in June. With around 70 active members, the group hopes to make the flag distribution an annual event. The allocation will also be used to fund other activities planned until December, including colouring contests, chess competitions and futsal tournaments.
