Spencer Horwitz, Bryan Reynolds, Tommy Pham star in Pirates' 8-5 victory over skidding Tigers
Horwitz hit a two-run double in the second inning to open the scoring. The Pirates, who had lost 11 of their previous 12 games, have taken the first two games of the series from the AL Central leaders. Reynolds had RBI singles in the third and sixth and Pham doubled in a run in the sixth as the Pirates increased their lead to 8-3.
The Tigers have lost eight of their last nine games.
Mitch Keller (4-10) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings to win what could be his final start with the Pirates. The right-hander has been heavily rumored to be traded by the July 31 deadline.
David Bednar, another potential trade target, pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save in as many opportunities.
Casey Mize (9-4) was tagged for five runs (four earned) and 10 hits in four innings. Mize was pitching for the first time since making his first career All-Star Game appearance a week earlier.
Jake Rogers hit a three-run home run, his second of the season, in the fifth inning. Jahmai Jones added a two-run shot as a pinch-hitter in the eighth.
Tigers All-Star shortstop Javier Báez returned and was 1 for 4 after missing Monday night's game with left shoulder soreness.

Colorado's Jordan Seaton named to prestigious Outland Trophy watchlist
Colorado Buffaloes star left tackle Jordan Seaton was named to the Outland Trophy watchlist, given to the best interior lineman in college football. Seaton joins a list of 50 returning linemen to make the preseason watchlist. He is one of 16 offensive tackles and 10 players from the Big 12 to be named to the watchlist. There are also 15 guards and 10 defensive tackles named to the list. As a freshman All-American last season, Seaton enters 2025 as one of the Buffs' best players and a leader. He was also an honorable mention All-Big 12 and the honorable mention Big 12 Freshman of the Year by the coaches. In 2024, Seaton became the first true freshman to start a season opener at tackle in program history and went on to start all 13 games. He allowed three sacks on 611 pass plays and did not allow a sack in 11 of Colorado's 13 games. The Outland Trophy, presented by the Football Writers Association of America, will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN on Friday, Dec. 12. Maddy Siegrist's return to Wings from knee injury delayed at least 1 more game
DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist's return from a knee injury will have to wait at least one more game. The Wings ruled Siegrist out of a game Friday night against the Indiana Fever a day after saying her 17-game absence because of a right knee fracture was set to end. The Wings are playing the Fever at the home of the Dallas Mavericks. It's the second time the Wings will play at American Airlines Center. Dallas faced the Fever at the AAC in late June, losing 94-86 when Caitlin Clark was sidelined by a groin injury. Clark returned after that, but this meeting with the Wings will be Clark's sixth consecutive game missed after the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year aggravated a groin injury. Siegrist, the NCAA Division I scoring leader ahead of Clark when she played for Villanova in 2022-23, was limited to 11 games in an injury-plagued rookie season two years ago. Siegrist has averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 11 games and had her only double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards the game before she was injured, an 81-65 loss to Minnesota on June 8.
