
Carjacker takes 2-year-old on wild joyride after mom leaves tot alone in vehicle on Brooklyn street: cops
The 32-year-old mom called 911 and told cops she left her Nissan Pathfinder running with the toddler in the backseat as she stepped into a deli on Sutter Avenue near Van Sinderen Avenue in Brownsville, police said.
While she was in the store, 34-year-old Maurice Stephens got behind the wheel and drove off with the toddler, said cops.

3 Stephens drove about a mile before cops pulled him over at Liberty Avenue and Wyona Street, police said.
The alleged carjacker drove for nearly a mile when officers spotted him at Wyona Street and Liberty Avenue and pulled him over around 10:50 a.m., authorities said.
The boy was recovered safely and Stephens – who has no relation to the family – was placed in cuffs, authorities said.
3 Stephens was charged with grand larceny, kidnapping and other raps, cops said.

Stephens, of Brooklyn Heights, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree kidnapping, criminal possession of stolen property and endangering the welfare of a child, cops said.
He has one prior arrest, for criminal possession of a controlled substance from January in Midtown Manhattan, authorities said.

Two car crash in Solano County kills one person, injures several
One person was killed and several injured in a two car crash on Highway 12 in Solano County on Friday, the CHP said. The crash occurred at 5:03 p.m. when the driver of a tan Toyota Camry tried to pass a big-rig in the eastbound lanes of Highway 12 west of Highway 13 in Rio Vista, according to CHP Sgt. P. Crow. The driver swerved, lost control and entered the westbound lanes of Highway 12 where the Toyota was struck by an oncoming Nissan Pathfinder. The Toyota driver died at the scene and the passengers in the Nissan were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. KCRA-TV reported that the Nissan was carrying four occupants. The highway remained closed as the CHP investigated the crash. Lanes reopened at about 9:30 p.m.

Indiantown woman charged with battery of person over 65 and of a law enforcement officer
INDIANTOWN — An Indiantown woman is in jail on charges related to throwing a glass coffee table at a man and spitting and hitting deputies the evening of Aug. 13, according to an arrest affidavit. Laurel Stephens, 63, of Indiantown was charged with battery on a person 65 or older, battery on a law enforcement officer, and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, according to her arrest affidavit. She is in the Martin County Jail on $250,000 bond, sheriff's officials stated on social media. On Aug. 13 around 8:54 p.m., three Martin County deputies responded to the Indiantown location, according to the arrest affidavit. When deputies arrived they found an 83-year-old man sitting in the driver's seat of a truck in the driveway. He had dried blood on his right cheek from a small cut and another small cut on his left ankle. The man told a deputy he was in the living room when Stephens exited her room yelling and "acting crazy," according to the arrest affidavit. She picked up the glass coffee table and threw it at him. The man then went outside and sat in the truck. He told deputies they are not in a relationship, according to the arrest affidavit. Stephens cam out of the home yelling, with her cell phone in her hand. She stopped at the gate of her fence, opened it and let her black pit bull out onto the driveway. She told deputies the dog would bite them and has "killed someone before" adding that she would "sick the dog" on them, according to the arrest affidavit. A deputy attempted to ask her questions but Stephens ignored him and continued to talk about something unrelated. A deputy held a flashlight to Stephens face, which resulted in her approaching the deputy and getting close to their face. When asked to back up she refused, and the deputy attempted to make her back up by gently pushing her back, according to the affidavit. She responded by hitting the deputy in the shoulder. The deputy pushed the dog off of himself and the dog was secured by a different deputy while Stephens was secured in the handcuffs. Stephens kicked a deputy while still on the ground and spit in a different deputy's eye while being taken to the patrol vehicle, according to the arrest affidavit. A crook with a snake tattoo on his neck showed his sentimental side when he stole a minivan in Harlem — then returned it when he found a terrified 9-year-old girl in the back seat, cops and sources said. A 56-year-old man had just unloaded his younger daughter, 7, from his gray Honda Odyssey at East 107th Street and Third Avenue in East Harlem around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when the creep hopped behind the wheel and drove off, according to authorities and police sources. The frantic dad flagged down NYPD cops on the street, who launched their search for the thief, police said. But while cops were canvassing the area, the suspect – apparently realizing the older girl was still in the car – whipped back around the block and returned the minivan to the same location, cops and sources said.
