New York hiking trail closed for over a month due to moose exhibiting "unusual behaviors"
A popular hiking trail in New York's Adirondack Mountains has been closed for more than a month due to a bull moose exhibiting "unusual behaviors," state officials said. The moose has been observed on or near the Goodman Mountain trail in the Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest in northeastern New York. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation first announced the temporary closure of the trail on June 6, and the agency gave an update recently. The moose "continues to demonstrate unusual behaviors," DEC said in a news release on July 11. "It is suspected that this moose may have an underlying illness influencing behavior as it continues to remain on or near the trail and is not responsive to attempts to move it off the trail." DEC wildlife staff were able to get near the moose on a recent visit to observe its behavior and condition, the department said Friday, but further information about a possible illness was not known. The department is also monitoring the animal with three trail cameras. The trail will remain closed until the agency determines it is safe. "Moose are large animals, and while no signs of aggression have been observed, moose can be dangerous if approached too closely," the department said. Signage about the trail's closure is posted at trailhead and access points.

This Tiny 4K Action Cam Is Smaller Than a GoPro, and I Take It Everywhere I Travel
As part of my job, I travel frequently and work from many parts of the world. No matter where I go, I'm always careful to pack a variety of must-have items, and my Insta360 Go 3S camera is one of them. I like to document my travels in the most convenient manner possible, and this tiny action camera does exactly what I need. The Insta360 Go 3S, released last summer, introduced a minor but significant upgrade to its predecessor by adding 4K video recording -- a first for this ultracompact camera line. I've been using it since its launch, and so far, I've been pleased with the image quality, stabilization and the magnet mounting system. This action cam lets me get POV shots with unmatched ease, far beyond what I can get with my phone. Why I chose the Insta360 Go 3S I carry the Insta360 Go 3S with me for its portability and quality. It's smaller than the GoPro Hero cameras I've used and weighs 3.4 ounces (96.3 grams) with the Action Pod and just 1.38 ounces (39.1 grams) for the camera unit. The design is pretty slick, with a capsule-shaped camera that pops out of its "Action Pod" and can be mounted magnetically to unconventional places like railings, poles, streetlights, etc. This lets me capture myself on the go without needing a tripod. The Go 3S also comes with a pendant-style accessory in the box, which I wasn't entirely sure I would use. But unlike the GoPro Hero 13 Black, this pendant allows me to attach a camera to my chest without needing a strap, so I've used it a lot. Prakhar Khanna/CNET Apart from the sharp 4K footage, Insta360's Go 3S can also shoot slow motion at 200fps in 1080p resolution, but I found the 2.7K at 100fps videos to be better in quality. I've also noticed better footage of motion shots than the Go 3, likely because of the higher bit rate of 120Mbps (versus 80Mbps). It obviously shoots the best quality videos in bright daylight with vibrant colors, great dynamic range and better shadows. Insta360's FloState stabilization is pretty good, too -- I've used it while running and riding a bike. The videos were close to GoPro-level stability. Now Playing: Insta360 Go 3S Review: We Took the Smallest 4K Action Cam to Big Sky, Montana 05:38 I shoot most of my 4K videos in FreeFrame mode at 30fps so I can edit them later in the aspect ratio I want. It goes up to 50fps in 1080p resolution but I prefer 4K. The app allows me to transfer media, edit videos, add color profiles, add fun effects and more. The Insta360 Go 3S offers a narrower field of view (16mm versus 11 of 35mm equivalent) than the Go 3 but the difference is barely noticeable. It's slightly narrower. While it can also capture images (JPG as well as DNG), I use my Go 3S to shoot videos. The only downsides of Insta360's camera are nonexpandable storage and average battery life. I recommend you buy the 128GB version instead of the base 64GB, which is double that of the predecessor but might not be enough for everyone. Plus, add a power bank to your backpack to keep it charged. Essential Insta360 Go 3S specs Size (camera): 1 x 2.1 x 0.9 inches 1 x 2.1 x 0.9 inches Size (Action Pod): 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.2 inches 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.2 inches Weight (camera): 1.38 ounces (39.1g) 1.38 ounces (39.1g) Weight (Action Pod): 3.4 ounces (96.3g) 3.4 ounces (96.3g) Video resolution: 4K 4K Maximum waterproof depth: 33 feet 33 feet Battery life: 140 minutes (with Action Pod) A standard bundle includes the Insta 360 Go 3S camera, magnet pendant, Easy Clip, Action Pod and pivot stand. Insta360 Yes, there are lots of action-cam alternatives As much as I travel, I appreciate the convenience and portability of the Insta360 Go 3S, and with its current discount, it's a pretty great deal right now. But there are plenty of worthy action cam competitors, depending on your needs and budget. If you're interested in checking out other action cameras from the likes of GoPro, DJI and Akaso, here are CNET's top action cams tested by our expert reviewers.

Amex Q2 results prove it's still the heavyweight of high-end cards
With its complex web of travel perks, airport lounges and points, the premium credit card scene is more competitive than ever. But if the competition is heating up, luxury card stalwart American Express isn't feeling it. The credit card company just beat profit expectations in its second quarter earnings, a feat powered by strong spending that shows Amex cardholders aren't jumping ship for rivals. With markets unstable and tariffs flying, Amex's laser focus on wealthy customers likely provides a buffer against financial forces that can put a drag on lower income spenders. 'We saw record Card Member spending in the quarter, demand for our premium products was strong, and our credit performance remained best in class,' American Express CEO Stephen Squeri said. The company's billed business for the quarter was $416.3 billion, besting analyst estimates of $412.8 billion in card member spending. Total revenue was up 9% to $17.9 billion, an increase the credit card issuer attributed to more customer spending, card feed growth and higher income from revolving loan balances. Fending off the competition American Express is the old guard among premium rewards cards, but the company knows it needs to keep things fresh to stay competitive. The company recently announced its biggest card refresh to date, with reimagined perks designed to court the Gen Z and millennial cardholders who make up more than a third of its U.S. consumer spending. 'We're going to take these Cards to a new level, not only in what they offer in travel, dining and lifestyle benefits, but also in how they look and feel, to meet the evolving needs of our customers,' American Express Group President of U.S. Consumer Services Howard Grosfield said. Amex isn't sharing the specifics of its Platinum Card revamp yet, but other changes on the way soon reveal the company's preference for bespoke perks designed to smooth air travel's many jagged edges. As Fast Company reported, Amex will roll out a pair of luxe updates that exemplify how the company plans to bolster its premium strategy. First, its Centurion Lounges will soon be revamped with rotating menus from James Beard Award-winning chefs, part of its new 'Culinary Collective.' All 15 Centurion Lounges in the U.S. will feature the new menu items starting at the end of the month. 'You'd be lucky to get into each of their restaurants on a normal day,' American Express Travel President Audrey Hendley told Fast Company. 'Now, you can try them all in one trip.' Amex will also launch Sidecar, a new kind of lounge tailored to the needs of travelers seeking a short-term sanctuary, next year in Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport. The lounge will offer small plates and table-side service designed to fit into a limited time slot. 'We're seeing a significant segment of travelers who only spend 30 to 45 minutes in the lounge,' Hendley told Fast Company. 'Sidecar is our way of honoring that time with the same level of care and service. In the battleground of premium perks, everyone is vying to offer a little something special. Chase recently revamped its famed Sapphire Reserve card with a set of new travel credits and a higher annual fee. Citi is launching its own new premium card, the Citi Strata Elite, later this year to lure affluent customers away from the competition. If those challengers pose a real threat to Amex, you wouldn't know it. 'Bring it on,' AmEx Chief Financial Officer Christophe Le Caillec told Reuters. 'We've been in that space for decades and we have built assets that our competitors do not have.'
