Toiling dawn to dusk, Silent Heroes Cleaned Vande Bharat Platforms

Time of India20 hours ago
Nagpur: As the spotlight shone on the Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat inaugural run at Nagpur station on Sunday, it was the unsung heroes working behind the scenes who truly made the platforms sparkle.
Platforms 8 and 9 stood out, gleaming under the bright lights, thanks to the tireless efforts of a dedicated group of sanitation workers.
For the past week, these individuals have been toiling from the crack of dawn, ensuring every inch was spotless for the high-profile occasion. Among these diligent workers were Shital Ragde, Akshay Lokhande, Nikhil Dharme, Mamta Mor, Pragati Namre, Anjali Sonksure, and Sagar Bavne.
Their tasks ranged from sweeping and scrubbing to polishing, with some even managing the upkeep of eight train coaches single-handedly. Pragati Namre, one of the workers, expressed her pride, saying, "It makes me proud that because of us, people could enjoy their train travel. Everything begins with cleanliness."
Her colleague, Akshay Lokhande, echoed her sentiments, adding, "Events like this happen rarely, and when they do, we feel we are part of something important.

People see the train, but few see the ones who make the surroundings shine."
For many of these workers, Sunday was a rare occasion when they received breakfast and medical facilities. "We have been working here for 15 years but still get only Rs15,000 instead of Rs20,000. Usually, there's no breakfast, no medical help, nothing extra," shared Mamta Mor, who has been on the job since her teens.
Despite the long hours and modest pay, the excitement of witnessing the Vande Bharat train up close was palpable.
"The train was beautiful. It felt good knowing we played a small role in such a big day," said Sagar Bavne.
As the ceremony concluded and the crowds dispersed, the sanitation workers quietly resumed their duties, brooms in hand, preparing the station for the next arrival. For this silent crew, the pride in their work lingers long after the applause fades, their contributions shining brightly in the background of the day's events.

Egg consumption drops in Ballari schools during Shravana month

Ballari: In govt schools in the Ballari district, there was a 20% reduction in the free distribution of eggs during the sacred month of Shravana, as many students opted for bananas instead. The practice of avoiding non-vegetarian food items such as eggs, fish, and meat during Shravana is increasingly evident in educational institutions. Kasturi, the district officer of the Midday Meals Scheme, stated, "This trend shows growth each year. In aided schools and anganwadi centres, a considerable number of children and women express a preference for vegetarian food over eggs during this month." "We adjust the menu according to their preferences. However, in certain areas, parents are opposing the distribution of eggs during the Shravana month. We are not pressuring anyone. Instead, we are providing bananas as a substitute for eggs," she explains. The Ballari district comprises 228 govt and one aided primary school, 402 govt and 41 aided higher primary schools, and 90 govt and 34 aided high schools across five taluks. Among these, 1.5 lakh children from classes 1 to 10 receive midday meals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo As per the department's estimates, 20% of children have transitioned from eggs to bananas.
