Ludicrous trade proposal lands Steelers star WR at great cost
The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be centered around trade rumors for several different pass-catchers, as they look for weapons to add to their offense opposite DK Metcalf. Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith has been a name floating around for the last week and a half, and the Steelers reportedly made calls to the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons about Chris Olave and Kyle Pitts, respectively.
With Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin seeking a new deal and potentially skipping mandatory minicamp, the talks of a trade have begun to come out in terms of potential proposals. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested the Steelers send their first-round pick in 2026 and the 2027 fifth-round pick they received from the Dallas Cowboys in the George Pickens trade to acquire the All-Pro receiver.

'Pittsburgh may have to pay a premium in terms of draft capital to acquire McLaurin for a couple of reasons,' Knox writes. 'For one, the Steelers are highly unlikely to be picking near the top of the draft order. Under head coach Mike Tomlin, they simply don't experience sub-.500 seasons. Secondly, the Steelers won't want to surrender any potential contributors in a trade. Their play for Rodgers suggests they believe they can make a serious run this season. They're not going to part with a player who can help them achieve that goal. Of course, acquiring McLaurin wouldn't have to be a one-year investment. With $32.3 million in cap space, the Steelers could afford to lock him up long-term.'
Photo byRespectfully speaking to Knox, the Steelers would be insane to trade their first-round pick in 2026 when they are certainly going to use that pick on a quarterback to be the future of their franchise. In addition, it likely wouldn't take a first-round pick to acquire McLaurin. DK Metcalf went for a second-round pick and a Day Three pick swap. McLaurin will be 30 this season, and trading a first-round pick for a 30-year-old wideout when you don't have a long-term franchise quarterback on the books would be a firable offense.

In the hypothetical deal, the Commanders would acquire a 2026 first-round pick from the Steelers and a 2027 fifth-round pick, which would come from the Dallas Cowboys. "...Though Rodgers had a largely forgettable season with the Jets in 2024, he was coming back from a torn Achilles. In theory, the 41-year-old will be an upgrade over last year's duo of Fields and Russell Wilson. If the Steelers hope to make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl with Rodgers, however, they should look for all of the receiver help they can get. McLaurin, who is a pristine route-runner who can attack all areas of the field, would complement Rodgers well." Acquiring McLaurin certainly wouldn't come cheap for Pittsburgh. However, if they want to maximize the gamble of bringing on Aaron Rodgers, who could end up being a one-year rental, McLaurin could bring a lot of value to the field. Last season, McLaurin appeared in 17 games for the Commanders. He formed a solid connection with Washington's first-round rookie, Jayden Daniels. The veteran wideout caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. McLaurin added a second Pro Bowl nod to his resume and became an All-Pro for the first time in his career. While picking up McLaurin in this scenario would be a move to stack up weapons for the 41-year-old Rodgers to try and win right away, the Steelers would get an opportunity to secure a proven star receiver for years to come. So far, the Commanders haven't reached a point of no return with McLaurin. Comments from Jayden Daniels and the head coach, Dan Quinn, suggest that everybody but McLaurin's reps and the Washington front office are on the same page. McLaurin might be a holdout right now, but the Commanders seem confident that the situation will get resolved soon.

Could the Steelers look to make another splash before the 2025 season arrives? There are a few options they could consider. Fox Sports has made an intriguing suggestion for Pittsburgh. They brought up Keenan Allen as a potential target for the team to give Rodgers more support. "A seasoned veteran receiver wants to catch passes from a seasoned veteran quarterback," they wrote. "While one might argue that Allen's days of being a true No. 1 receiver are over with him going into his age-33 season, that notion also makes him likely to sign for an affordable, short-term contract. A one-year deal that hovers around $10 million is worth the squeeze for a player who likely wants to play for a perennial playoff team like Pittsburgh at this stage of his career." Allen played the 2024 NFL season with the Chicago Bears. He racked up 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. Even at 33 years old, Allen is more than capable of making a major impact. Both players would be reliable options for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. Assuming his price tag is somewhere around that $10 million per season that was suggested by Fox Sports, the Steelers should strongly consider pursuing him. That would be more than worth the money one a one-year deal. It's time for Pittsburgh to go all-in on pursuing a championship with Rodgers leading the way. DeMarcus Cousins suspended for season, contract terminated after brawl with fans

'As an organization, we strongly condemn any form of violence or provocation, whether on or off the field. Safety, respect, and sportsmanship are non-negotiable values for this franchise,' the Mets said in a news release. It was Cousins' second season playing in Puerto Rico. He was averaging 18.2 points per game with nine rebounds for a team that has a 9-18 record. In his previous stint with the Mets in the 2023 season, Cousins helped the team reach the semifinals. In the NBA, Cousins averaged 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds over 11 seasons. The four-time All-Star's best season came with Sacramento in 2016-17, when he averaged 27.8 points.
