BRS alleges Rs 1,100 crore scam in Civil Supplies dept, vows to approach ED
Addressing a press conference, BRS leader Peddi Sudarshan Reddy stated that despite alerting authorities and raising the issue in the Assembly through party MLAs, no action has been taken by the government. Sudarshan Reddy expressed suspicion over the participation of only four bidders in the tenders. He alleged that, so far, money has been collected from millers without the paddy being lifted, with cash transferred from millers to the bidders' accounts. 'We have collected 270 bank account details and sent them to the Chief Minister, Civil Supplies Minister, Civil Supplies Commissioner, the vigilance commission, and the ACB, but no action was taken. A total of Rs 7,500 crore should have reached the government treasury through these tenders. Not even half of it came. Instead of Rs 2,007 per quintal, Rs 2,230 was collected,' said Sudarshan Reddy.
The BRS leader further pointed out that the High Court issued notices to the Chief Minister and the state minister, yet the government sought adjournments 16 times to file its counter. 'If you did not commit corruption, why are you seeking adjournments in the Court? Even though you filed illegal cases and summoned KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao in the name of investigation, why are Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy avoiding the court?' questioned Reddy. He further alleged that the deadline for the bidders was extended five times beyond the period specified in the tenders.
Alleging that the bidders channelled Rs 1,100 crore to the Congress party, Sudarshan Reddy stated, 'We have given all the evidence to the court. Every Congress MLA got Rs 10 crore, and the civil supplies tender scam money has gone to Delhi. The MLAs were given money to ensure they do not go into despair.' He further alleged that Congress party representatives in Delhi were also involved in the civil supplies scam. He claimed that no grain was lifted anywhere except for the collection of money, and that Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has remained silent on this scam so far. The authorities, he added, claimed that grain was being sent to the Philippines and were attempting to prematurely conclude the tender process. Demanding that Rs 1,100 crore be deposited into the Civil Supplies account, he announced that the party would lay siege to the Civil Supplies Bhavan and also approach the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding this alleged scam.
Party leaders Errolla Srinivas, Bommera Ramamurthy, Sushila Reddy, K Kishore Goud, Y Satish Reddy, and Abhilash Rangineni were also present.

Majhi disburses Rs 5K cr to 1 cr women under Subhadra
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday distributed Rs 5,000 crore to around one crore women as third instalment under Subhadra scheme. Majhi released the amount to beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer at a special event at Jeypore in Koraput district on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Among the beneficiaries, 1,783 women are from Kotia panchayat in Koraput district near the Andhra Pradesh border. Majhi said the Subhadra Yojana has created a new chapter of progress and transformation in the lives of women across the State. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 last year and in just six and a half months, all eligible women had been covered under the scheme, he added. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah launches projects worth ₹1,107 crore for Varuna constituency
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched development works worth ₹1,107.72 crore for his home constituency Varuna on Saturday. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the projects in Varuna assembly constituency across different departments at a function here, Mr. Siddaramaiah recalled his political journey starting with his first assembly election in 1983, when he won as an independent candidate and became a Minister. The Chief Minister said that he had won the elections to the Legislative Assembly five times from Chamundeshwari assembly constituency, and twice from Varuna assembly constituency. While thanking the people of Chamundeshwari, Mr. Siddaramaiah also recalled that he became the Chief Minister on both the occasions he won from Varuna and said that he will be indebted to the people of the constituency. Highest per capita income After fulfilling 158 out of the 163 promises the Congress had made before the 2013 Assembly elections in Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the government promised to implement five guarantee schemes — Anna Bhagya, Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, and Yuva Nidhi — to eliminate economic inequality and uplift the poor before the 2023 assembly polls. The Congress government was spending ₹55,000 crore every year to implement the guarantee schemes, which had taken the State to the top position in the country in terms of per capita income, the Chief Minsiter said. 'These schemes have put more money into the hands of the people and boosted the economy, which has in turn increased the per capita income,' he said, while also pointing out that Karnataka stood second in GST collections in the country, next only to Maharashtra. Also, the government had fulfilled 242 out of the 542 promises made before the 2023 elections, he claimed. Contending that equal opportunities should be given to everybody in the society to eliminate economic inequalities, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the development programmes taken up by his government to uplift the poor, farmers, women, and economically weaker sections were being implemented without any discrimination on caste or religious lines. MP for Chamarajanagar Sunil Bose, who also spoke on the occasion, said that the people of Varuna constituency had given the State a popular Chief Minister in Mr. Siddaramaiah, whose government had carrieds out developmental works alongside the implementation of guarantee schemes. Yathindra, Congress MLC, who is also a former MLA of Varuna, sought to make it clear that there is no shortage of funds for taking up development works in the State even though the government was implementing guarantee schemes. 'These schemes ensure more money reaches the hands of the people,' he said, while reiterating that Karnataka ranked first in the country in per capita income. H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister in charge of Mysuru district; K. Venkatesh, Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry; H.M. Revanna and Pushpa Amarnath, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee respectively; K. Thimmaiah, MLC; G. Lakshmikant Reddy, Deputy Commissioner; and S. Yukesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, were also present on the occasion.

Ramalinga Reddy slams BJP for taking credit for metro project, says Karnataka's contribution much higher
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Saturday hit out at BJP leaders, including State president B.Y. Vijayendra and MP for Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya, for claiming that the Yellow Line — set to be inaugurated on August 10 — was solely a Central government initiative. Speaking at a press conference here, Mr. Reddy said the BJP was more interested in publicity than work and accused its leaders of ignoring the State's major financial role. 'They do not even know the history of the metro project in Karnataka. In 2006, when N. Dharam Singh was the Chief Minister, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone. The metro project is a people's institution, not the property of any political party,' he said. Funding pattern Asserting that in this project, the State government is not a minor partner, Mr. Reddy released documents to show the funding pattern. 'In every phase, Karnataka has contributed as much or more than the Centre, including land acquisition and cost escalations. In Phase 1, the State gave 30% plus land while the Centre's contribution was 25%; in Phase 2, the Centre's share was just 20%, and in Phase 3, Karnataka bore land and rehabilitation costs entirely,' he said. Dismissing Mr. Surya's claim that Congress governments built only 6 km of metro, the Transport Minister said: 'In Phase 1 alone, we planned 42 km. The State has spent ₹24,064.3 crore against the Centre's ₹17,803.85 crore, with ₹43,498.53 crore raised through loans guaranteed by the State'. Delays by Centre Countering an allegation that delays caused a loss of ₹400 crore per km, Mr. Reddy said: 'Is the Centre not equally responsible? Who delayed the arrival of train coaches? Who issues environmental clearances? Is it not the Central government? All these approvals come after Union Cabinet clearance. Even the route safety certificate comes from the Centre. So the delays are due to them. For 11 years, the BJP has ruled at the Centre. They purposely delay because Congress is in power in the State and then blame us. Our Chief Minister has put pressure on the Union Ministers concerned for clearances.' He also accused Karnataka's BJP MPs of failing to raise the issue of the 15th Finance Commission's allocation of ₹11,495 crore for the Peripheral Ring Road and lake development, which he said was denied to the State. 'They will not speak up in Parliament for Karnataka's share but will criticise the State government here,' he remarked. On the issue of metro fare hikes, Mr. Reddy clarified that the decision rests with a committee appointed by the Centre, whose report is approved by the Delhi Metro Board, headed by a senior Union Urban Development Ministry official.
