Shakira Concertgoers Potentially Exposed to Measles Outbreak
Originally appeared on E! Online
Measles outbreaks can happen whenever, wherever.
The New Jersey Department of Health announced May 20 that people who attended Shakira's concert at MetLife Stadium just outside of New York City in East Rutherford May 15 may have been exposed to measles.
Officials alerted the public about a "newly identified case of measles," sharing in a news release that a non-New Jersey resident attended the concert "while infectious." They said that individuals are "urged to be aware of the symptoms of this highly contagious virus" and to make sure they're up to date on their shots.
The NJDOH went on to caution that anyone who attended the "Hips Don't Lie" hitmaker's show "may have been exposed to measles" and instructed "anyone who suspects an exposure or illness" to call a health care provider before physically going to a medical office.
E! News has reached out to Shakira, MetLife Stadium and Live Nation for comment and has yet to hear back.
Officials noted that measles symptoms typically include cough, fever and a rash "that usually appears between three and five days after symptoms begin." They also noted that "potentially exposed individuals, if infected, could develop symptoms as late as June 6, 2025."

That being said, the NJDOH shared that "no additional associated cases in New Jersey have been identified."
The potential measles outbreak at Shakira's concert comes a few months after the 48-year-old had to cancel a February show in Peru after being hospitalized.
"I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue," the "Beautiful Liar" singer wrote on her Instagram Stories at the time. "The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening."
Shakira—mom to sons Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, with ex Gerard Piqué—added that she was "very sad" that she wouldn't be able to take the stage that night. As she explained, "I've been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru."
Earlier that month, Shakira was joined by her sons at the 2025 Grammys in Los Angeles, where she reflected on her personal and professional journey.
"I've grown a lot," Shakira told E! News. "I've learned a lot of lessons. Life hasn't always been kind, but it's been a good teacher."

Huey Lewis joins search for missing ‘Back to the Future' guitar, talks hearing loss
Huey Lewis is lending a hand in recovering Marty McFly's iconic guitar from 'Back to the Future.' Various stars of the 1985 science-fiction film have united to support an international effort to uncover the whereabouts of the cherry red ES-345 guitar that McFly played 'Johnny B. Goode' on in honor of the film's 40th anniversary. Gibson, the guitar's manufacturer, is leading the effort and enlisted the Huey Lewis and the News singer, who made music for the film and had an on-screen cameo, along with others such as franchise stars Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd and Harry Waters Jr., for a call to action video released Tuesday, June 3. 'Well, it's pretty amazing, really. I mean, to think about what it might be worth, right?' Lewis told People Magazine. 'So whoever's got this thing, wherever it is. I mean, forget the actual guitar and the financial thing, there's a great story there, obviously.' He also speculated that since there were several guitar techs on set, 'maybe somebody fell on hard times and had to sell it.' 'Who knows what that story is,' Lewis continued. 'But it's fairly interesting and apparently, because of the frets, it will be identifiable' Those with information about the guitar's location can submit tips online at or by calling 1-855-345-1955. Meanwhile, Gibson Films is working on a documentary about the search, featuring interviews with cast members and musicians that have been inspired by 'Back to the Future,' including Lewis. The Grammy-winning musician wrote and performed the hit song 'The Power of Love' for the film, but has since retired from live performances after announcing that he suffers from significant hearing loss due to Ménière's disease in 2018. During a recent conversation with People Magazine, Lewis shared a positive outlook on the diagnosis. 'This is my cross to bear. I have a cochlear implant in my head that now enables me to hear speech much better,' he said, noting that he still can't hear music. 'I'm still a lucky guy and there are lots of people out there worse than I am. And it is very hard to remember that sometimes, but my kids help me do that. … You have to rebalance and things, but it doesn't mean that life is terrible.' Though he's not able to enjoy music the way he used to, Lewis' disease hasn't stopped him. In 2020, Huey Lewis and the News put out its first new project in 19 years, ' Weather,' which was recorded around five to six years prior to Lewis' hearing loss. He also devoted time to the jukebox musical, ' The Heart of Rock and Roll,' centered on his band's 1980s hits such as 'The Power of Love' and 'I Want a New Drug,' and a still-to-be-released mockumentary series that delves into his life and hearing loss.

USDA: Organic ground beef sold at Whole Foods may be contaminated with E. coli
June 5 (UPI) -- Some packages of organic ground beef sold at Whole Foods stores across the country may be contaminated with E. coli, federal officials have warned. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert Wednesday about 1-pound packages of "Organic Rancher Organic Ground Beef 85% lean, 15% fat." The affected beef was produced May 22 and 23, 2025, and has "Use or Freeze By 06-19-25" or "Use or Freeze By 06-20-25" printed on the label. The packaging also includes the establishment number "EST. 4027" inside the USDA mark of inspection, CBS News reported. While this beef is no longer being sold in stores, officials say some may still be in customers' homes. Anyone with this product should not eat it. "These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the alert stated. The ground beef was sold at Whole Foods Market locations nationwide and also sent to distributors in Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland. No illnesses have been reported yet, but the USDA is urging caution because E. coli is a "potentially deadly bacterium" that can cause dehydration, abdominal cramps and bloody diarrhea. "While most people recover within a week, some develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome," the alert said. "This condition can occur among persons of any age but is most common in children under 5 years old and older adults," it added. "It is marked by easy bruising, pallor and decreased urine output. Persons who experience these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately." More information Read the full health alert from the USDA Food Safety & Inspection Service.
