Telangana Government Aims to Empower One Crore Women as Crorepatis: Minister Vakkati Srihari
Speaking at a public event organized at a function hall near Alampur Crossroads on Thursday, the minister participated in the 'Indira Mahila Shakti' and Ration Card Distribution program alongside District Collector B.Y. Santosh and Alampur MLA Vijay. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp.
In his address, Minister Srihari emphasized the government's consistent commitment to women's welfare since the formation of the people's government in Telangana. 'Every welfare scheme is being implemented in the name of women, ensuring they are placed at the forefront of development,' he said.
Highlighting several achievements, the Minister noted:
Kalyana Lakshmi cheques, which were previously distributed annually, are now issued every three months.
Interest-free loans worth ₹3.15 crore have been provided to 2,600 women's self-help groups.
The government is constructing 3,500 Indiramma houses in the Alampur constituency at a cost of ₹175 crore, transcending party lines and ensuring corruption-free implementation.
200 units of free electricity per month are being provided for domestic use.
Women are being empowered as entrepreneurs, becoming owners of petrol pumps and 1,000 buses, each earning ₹59,000 monthly income.
Young India Integrated Schools are being built to prioritize education for future generations.
Eligible citizens are being issued new ration cards, and the government is uniquely implementing the fine rice scheme in the country.
Minister Srihari urged more women to join self-help groups and take advantage of the government's developmental schemes to enhance their economic status. He stressed that in just 18 months, the government has fulfilled six guarantees, one after another.
The minister also stated that community halls are being established for various communities in the constituency, with a focus on the welfare of the poor, underprivileged, and backward sections of society.
District Collector B.Y. Santosh echoed the Minister's sentiments, stating that the state government is taking strong steps toward women's economic empowerment through successful schemes like interest-free loans, employment generation programs, uniform stitching contracts, and paddy procurement centers.
He noted that the government is investing ₹3 crore in solar power plants, petrol bunks, and bus ownership initiatives to generate steady income for women. He also announced:
Approval of 3 new ration cards for Alampur constituency.
19,000 new names added to the ration card database.
Urged beneficiaries to use the free fine rice responsibly and emphasized that schemes like Indiramma Housing, Rythu Bharosa, and free bus travel have been made accessible to all.
The Collector encouraged women to make full use of these opportunities to advance their economic status.
At the event:
Cheques worth ₹30.58 crore under bank linkage loans were distributed to 2,041 women's groups.
Interest-free loan cheques of ₹3.15 crore were issued to 2,600 women's groups.
Insurance cheques totaling ₹13.89 lakh were handed over to the families of 23 deceased women SHG members.
Orders for new ration cards were presented to the eligible beneficiaries.
Additionally, as part of the National Animal Disease Control Program, vaccines for Blue Tongue disease were administered to sheep.

Free bus travel for women and transgender persons across Andhra Pradesh from August 15
Fulfilling one of the 'Super Six' election promises, the Andhra Pradesh government will roll out a free bus travel scheme for women and transgender persons from August 15, State Transport, Youth, and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy announced on Monday. Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, the Minister said the Cabinet is expected to give formal approval to the scheme at its meeting on August 6. Under the initiative, women and transgender individuals residing in Andhra Pradesh will be able to travel free of cost on Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, Express, and Metro Express buses across the State. Beneficiaries must produce valid identification such as an Aadhaar card, Voter ID, or Ration Card to avail of the benefit. Mr. Ramprasad Reddy said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had instructed officials to ensure flawless and transparent implementation of the scheme. To that end, a group of three Ministers studied similar schemes in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana before finalising Andhra Pradesh's model. The scheme will cover 6,700 buses—roughly 74% of the State's fleet—and is expected to cost the exchequer around ₹1,950 crore annually. The government is also in the process of procuring 3,000 electric buses this year, with plans to add another 1,400 over the next two years. Additional drivers and mechanics will be recruited to handle the anticipated rise in demand, the Minister added.

Voting Cong once again will stop welfare schemes: KTR
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has begun preparations for the Jubilee Hills bypoll, with the party organising on Sunday a meeting of the activists of the constituency. Giving them a pep talk, the party's working president, KT Rama Rao, said that if the Congress was voted again in the by-polls, existing welfare schemes would also be stopped. Rama Rao paid tribute to late Maganti Gopinath and said that the by-election, necessitated by his demise, should be taken seriously. He called on the cadre to work hard to ensure BRS' victory. 'Let us hoist the pink flag once again in Jubilee Hills as a tribute to Gopinath garu,' he told the party workers. He asked each worker to take responsibility for at least 100 votes or 25 households and explain the difference between KCR's administration and the current Congress regime to the public. Strongly criticising the Congress party's 20-month rule in Telangana, calling it 'incompetent, anarchic, and riddled with corruption', the BRS working president urged the public to teach a fitting lesson to the grand old party for betraying every section of Telangana society through false promises and deceptive declarations. Rao alleged that top Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge had misled the people of Telangana with fake declarations during the elections. 'Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy, have failed to fulfil the promises they made and had instead cheated the people,' KTR said, adding, 'Such a deceitful government must be shown its place.' KTR mentioned that several welfare programmes had already stopped since the Congress came to accused the BJP and the Congress of colluding in Telangana politics. 'The BJP-led central government is shielding Revanth Reddy's corruption, which is why Prime Minister Modi hasn't filed a single case against him,' KTR claimed, alleging the only agenda of the two parties was to defeat the Telangana-based BRS. Expressing outrage over the demolition of poor people's homes in Hyderabad, KTR said, 'If a poor man builds a small shelter on government land, it's ruthlessly demolished. But the government turns a blind eye to the illegal constructions of the rich.' He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, his brother, ministers, and Congress leaders of building homes in lakes and tanks without facing any action, while poor people's homes are bulldozed on weekends without even serving them notices. He lamented the suicide of an elderly woman in Kukatpally out of fear that her house would be demolished. KTR highlighted that under the BRS government, Hyderabad was developed into a leading metropolitan city. 'Through GO 58, we gave legal ownership to over 1 lakh poor families and secured their livelihoods. We also implemented welfare schemes like Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi for girls' marriages,' he said.

Cabinet to take a call on Ghose panel report today
Hyderabad: The state cabinet, which will meet here on Monday, will deliberate on the Justice PC Ghose Commission's report on alleged corruption and irregularities in the construction of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation (KLIS) project. This was confirmed by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday. He clarified that a final decision will be taken after the issue is discussed threadbare by the cabinet. The report focuses on cost escalation and alleged mismanagement during the BRS government's tenure. Addressing an event in Peddapalli district on Sunday, the Minister criticised the Kaleshwaram project, stating that Rs one lakh crore had been wasted, while the Medigadda barrage had failed to provide any benefit. He pointed out that although Kaleshwaram passes through Manthani constituency, it had not irrigated even a single acre in the region. He said that despite this lacuna, Telangana had managed to achieve record paddy production, which shows that the state's agricultural performance was not dependent on Kaleshwaram alone. The Minister emphasised that his statements were not mere political criticism against a rival party but were substantiated by facts. Monday's cabinet meeting is in line with the decision to hold cabinet meetings twice a month to expedite policy implementation and improve governance. Previously, the Telangana cabinet had decided to implement a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections and admissions for native students in MBBS colleges. The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments on Tuesday 5 regarding a government order prioritising Telangana natives in medical college admissions. The State cabinet will also address the implementation of the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme and matters concerning government employees, including a report submitted by a specifically constituted three-member committee. The finalisation of the Indiramma Housing scheme and allocation of houses across Telangana are also expected to be discussed. Meanwhile, the cabinet is likely to consider a new paddy procurement policy and measures for rehabilitation of families affected by the Musi rejuvenation project.
