He said the four major ethnic languages proposed are the Tatana language in Kuala Penyu, Kadazan Tangaa in Penampang, Murut Timugon in Tenom and Dusun Lotud in Tuaran.
Advertisement The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) President said he, along with a delegation from Sabah, had held discussions with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and the Ministry of Education delegation last year. 'Yang Berhormat Fadhlina subsequently agreed for a special committee under the Ministry of Education to be established to study this proposal. I will continue to follow up on all efforts to realise this initiative. 'Up to now, the Kadazandusun language subject in schools has been based solely on the Bunduliwan Dusun dialect,' he said in a statement after officiating the Odou do Kaamatan celebration at Kampung Mahandoi, here, Sunday. Ewon said efforts to strengthen the ethnic language curriculum are ongoing initiatives involving various parties, including the Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF), the Momogun National Congress (MNC) and the Sabah Ethnic Languages Association. He said his Ministry is also supporting the effort through the allocation of special funding to four ethnic language associations for the development of modules, workbooks and textbooks. 'The teaching of these four Sabah ethnic languages can be implemented on a pilot basis in selected schools. For example, in Kuala Penyu, teaching the Tatana language would be more appropriate compared to using the Bunduliwan dialect,' he said. According to Ewon, Sabah could emulate the implementation of ethnic language education in government schools in Sarawak, which has piloted the teaching of the Iban and Bidayuh languages. 'Efforts in this direction are underway. Most Sabah, Sarawak education and health demands agreed at MA63 technical meeting

Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the meeting was crucial as preparation for the MTPMA63 Meeting No. 1/2025, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching on Sept 12. On education, he said agreements reached included state governments' involvement in the planning of education development projects, information sharing on the transfer of senior officers and allocation of funds for professional development programmes. 'As for healthcare, the meeting agreed to several demands, including increased allocations for operating and development expenditure, granting certain autonomous powers to State Health Directors, and strengthening human resources at the Health Departments of Sabah and Sarawak,' he said in a statement today. Fadillah added that other pending matters will continue to be discussed under the Joint Action Committee on Education and Health Development for Sabah and Sarawak, under the purview of the Education Ministry (MoE) and Health Ministry (MoH). In today's meeting, two briefing papers were also presented by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), which will be brought to the upcoming MTPMA63 meeting in Kuching for decision. 'Other unresolved demands will continue to be monitored by the Technical Committee under MTPMA63 as well as relevant ministerial-level working committees,' he said. Beware attempts by certain quarters to undermine national unity, PM cautions

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, stressed that every issue in the country must be addressed responsibly, as Malaysia is a nation governed by clear laws. Citing the Jalur Gemilang issue as an example, he said the government would not protect anyone found guilty of misconduct and that appropriate action would be taken against them. 'This is a nation of laws, with its own rules. That is why I established the Ministry of National Unity, because I believe political stability is essential for the country. 'A nation must be taught, and must learn from the experiences of others. No country in the world can remain safe when racial or religious hatred is allowed to grow,' he said during the 'Temu Anwar@Multimedia University (MMU)' programme here today. He was responding to a student's question on the government's efforts to implement the national unity agenda and combat racism at its roots. Anwar, meanwhile, praised the awareness shown by the younger generation and commended students for their awareness of the importance of unity and solidarity in building a progressive and successful nation. 'This growing awareness among youths gives us hope that this nation can be rebuilt on stronger foundations. 'With such positive attitudes among young Malaysians, the future of our unity looks promising. Still, we must remain cautious, for there are always those who will attempt to provoke and divide,' he said. Anwar cited the case of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir, whose death was manipulated by certain quarters to suggest government negligence. 'If the case involves murder or bullying, it does not matter whose child is involved… we will investigate thoroughly and prosecute. But do not accuse us of trying to conceal the truth. 'What reason would we have to cover up for anyone? If you commit a criminal offence, it makes no difference who you are. If you are guilty, you face the punishment.
