'I thought sister was joking when she named baby after fish – but she's serious'
It's usually taboo to slate parents for their choice of baby names, but some are so outlandish it's hard not to comment. Parents have the freedom to pick any name that tickles their fancy for their newborns. Whether it's a traditional name or something more avant-garde, there's no definitive right or wrong.
However, choosing an extremely odd name might attract some raised eyebrows and negative feedback. One expectant mother left her sister utterly astonished with her choice of name for her soon-to-arrive son, as the name was so extraordinary she initially thought it was a wind-up.
Taking to Reddit, the woman explained how her sister has had a lifelong passion for marine life and had always dreamed of giving her offspring an ocean-inspired name.
While there are many distinctive sea-related names like Ocean, Marina, Coral, and Finn, this mum-to-be has decided to name her boy after a fish – the sea bass, to be precise.
The shocked sister explained: "She said she settled on the name 'Seabass', yes, the fish. I am not making this up, I truly wish I was. She's always been a playful person so I truly thought she was joking but she said she really loved it."
With seven months of pregnancy behind her, the future mother has already invested in personalised name signs and a monogrammed blanket emblazoned with 'Seabass', showing she's dead serious about this quirky choice.
The soon-to-be aunt shared her concerns, saying: "I told her that I really don't think this is a good choice, tried to give her other nature or ocean names, and even asked if she could use the name Sebastian."
However, she was met with resistance. Her sister added: "She wasn't having it and said 'This name feels right for him'. I know he's not my child, and so I'm trying to respect her choice."
The sibling acknowledged the baby isn't hers, so she's trying to respect her sister's decision.
However, online commenters were equally stunned by the mother's unusual choice of name for her son. Many agreed that Seabass could be a cute nickname for someone named Sebastian, but found it odd as a given name.
One commenter expressed disbelief: "Oh, good grief. We know a little guy called Sebastian who gets called Seabass by his family, but it's not like it's his actual name!"
Another was at a loss for words: "I actually can't think of a way to respond to this in a nice way... I am genuinely flabbergasted."
However, the poster went on to edit her post with some good news, saying: "FINAL UPDATE: She went with Sebastian!! Thank God! I was so so worried. But his nickname is Seabass haha!"

Brooklyn Beckham leaves fans disgusted as he cooks up a pasta dish using SEA water on luxury yacht
Brooklyn Beckham left fans disgusted as he shared a video of him cooking a pasta dish using water from the ocean on Instagram on Monday. While promoting his hot sauce brand Cloud 23, fans couldn't help but notice Brooklyn's use of the sea water for his tomato pasta. He started by dipping a sauce pan in the sea to fill up his pot from his luxury yacht, before chopping his tomatoes and adding them to an oiled pan. Brooklyn, 26, shared a glimpse of the industrial kitchen that's onboard the spacious yacht, which could be seen in the background of his video. Before adding his pasta to the pot filled with water, Brooklyn lathered his signature Cloud 23 hot sauce on the tomatoes. However, despite whipping up what looked to be a delicious meal, Brooklyn's followers flooded his comments with the same complaint. They took issue with the fact he sourced his water from the ocean - which fans pointed out is likely to be polluted. Comments read: 'Did he make the pasta with the pool water?', 'When you are sat on the toilet for the 4th time in 30 minutes you will realise that the source where you got the water from wasn't the wisest of moves', 'Obviously, cooking pasta in sea water where there are boats that dump diesel into the sea and abounds is not really the best alternative you could have chosen', 'That's disgusting using that water.' However, other fans praised his cooking abilities, with one commenting: 'Nice work! I see you're cooking on a yacht too. Nice one!' Another said: 'Love your cooking tips with cloud Brooklyn xx.' Brooklyn's latest post comes hours after he and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, told fans how they had a 'major announcement' to make. Brooklyn's fans admired his cooking abilities but called him out for using water from the ocean Nicola took to Instagram to reveal that she and Brooklyn have started an Instagram account just for their dogs. She then shared a link to the page called 'peltzbeckhambabies', which featured a snap of one of their pooches, Birdie. The page features images of the couple's other dogs Lamb, Label and Angel. Nicola and Brooklyn are the only accounts it follows. It comes just months after Brooklyn made a surprising career change away from England alongside Nicola – allegedly setting up a new charity dog shelter in Los Angeles. According to The Sun, the couple are launching the Peltz Beckham Foundation, in a bid to rescue and shelter homeless dogs. MailOnline contacted the Beckhams' representatives for comment at the time. The couple, who wed in April 2022, are in the midst of an escalating rift with his parents David and Victoria Beckham. Last week, it was revealed that Brooklyn and Nicola's Instagram accounts no longer follow his younger brothers Cruz, 20, and Romeo, 22, in the latest family drama. However, Brooklyn's friends told MailOnline on Friday that Cruz and Romeo have actually blocked them on the social media platform. Brooklyn and Nicola are still following Victoria, 51 and David, 50.

Starbucks fans threaten to BOYCOTT over item 'missing' from Fall 2025 menu
Every few months, Starbucks changes its menu in accordance with the season. And, as summer slowly comes to an end, the chain coffee company announced that its Fall 2025 menu will be released in stores on August 26. While a few popular drinks - including the Pumpkin Spice Latte - are set to return, fans noticed that a specific flavor hasn't made it to the menu again. It seems as though the Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato will not be returning this year. The drink, which features espresso, steamed oat milk, apple brown sugar syrup, and a spiced apple drizzle, was originally introduced in August 2021. It has returned every year since - except for this upcoming one. As it turns out, Starbucks customers are not impressed with the brand for its exclusion of the fall-themed flavor. 'I was looking forward to my Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso since they stopped selling them. I'm heartbroken,' one Reddit user wrote. 'What the hell. I swear all they do is get rid of the stuff people like,' another said. One fan even admitted they wouldn't be going to the store any further, saying: 'That is the final nail in the coffin for me.' And they weren't alone: 'My manager hasn't confirmed any of the drinks to me yet but if this is true I'm literally not gonna buy anything from Starbucks this Fall.' But some coffee drinkers were happy with the decision - mostly because they never thought the drink was that good to begin with. 'I'm glad. It's a terrible recipe. They need to rework it,' one user wrote. 'The drizzle goes straight through the foam right to the bottom to the point where I don't even understand why they made it a drizzle and not a sauce. One of my least favorite drinks to make.' Another user shared similar feelings. 'Sounds about right. As much as I personally liked it, no one was really a fan of it,' one shared. And amongst the debate, some users even expressed a disdain for the Fall menu in general. 'Oh yay, its already disgusting season,' one user wrote mockingly about the seasonal offerings. Fans can expect other drinks this fall including the Pecan Oatmilk Cortado, Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, and the Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte. They can also anticipate the return of Italian Sausage Egg Bites. It comes after Starbucks' top boss, Brian Niccol, said the coffee chain will now make some of its corporate employees come into the office for four days each week. For months, the company required its in-office managers come into the corporate headquarters for three days each week. The expanded return-to-work policy is set to kick in on September 29.
