Prime Minister Narendra Modi declares Operation Sindoor as biggest and most successful anti-terror operations in India's history
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (May 31, 2025) said 'sindoor' has become a symbol of valour following India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, and warned Pakistan that bullets will be answered with cannon balls.
He also described Operation Sindoor as the biggest and most successful anti-terror operation in the country's history.
"Sindoor has now become a symbol of valour in the country...If you fire bullets, then rest assured that they will be answered with cannon balls," Mr. Modi said at the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan here on the occasion of the legendary queen's 300th birth anniversary.
"India is a country of culture and traditions, and sindoor is a symbol of women power in our tradition. Hanuman ji, who is immersed in Ram Bhakti, also sports sindoor. We offer sindoor in Shakti Puja. This sindoor has become a symbol of bravery," he said.
Earlier this month, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base Muridke. The military strikes were carried out under Operation Sindoor two weeks after the massacre of 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
Sindoor or the vermillion mark symbolises the marital status of Hindu women, and its use as the operation's name resonated powerfully in light of the April 22 Pahalgam massacre. In the brutal attack, terrorists targeted and killed men - including newlyweds - after verifying their religious identity.
"In Pahalgam, terrorists not only shed the blood of Indians, but also attacked our culture. They tried to divide our society and the biggest thing is that the terrorists have challenged the women power of India," Modi said.
"This challenge has become the death knell for the terrorists and their handlers. Operation Sindoor is the biggest and most successful operation in the history of India against terrorists. While the Pakistan army could not even imagine, our army destroyed the terrorist hideouts," he added.
"This time, 75 women have become members of Parliament. Our effort is to increase this number. This is the spirit behind the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Women reservation in Parliament and state assemblies has been achieved now, which had remained pending for a long time," he said.
Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, also known as the Women's Reservation Bill, is a landmark legislation that aims to reserve one-third of the total seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.
"This means that the BJP government is empowering our sisters and daughters at every level and in every field," he said.
The Prime Minister also said the world is witnessing the capability of India's daughters in national defence today.
"Even for this, the government took many steps in the last decade. From school to the battlefield, the country today has unprecedented faith in the bravery of its daughters," he said.
Referring to Lt Cdr Roopa A of the Indian Navy and her partner Lt Cdr Dilna K, who returned to Goa after successfully circumnavigating the globe in a sailing boat, the PM said two brave daughters of the Navy have completed a sea voyage of about 250 days.
"They circumnavigated the earth by travelling thousands of kilometres in a boat that runs not on a motor but on wind. Imagine staying at sea for 250 days," he said.
He also said that Ahilyabai Holkar was guardian of India's heritage and protected the country's temples and pilgrimage sites when they were being attacked.
"Our government is working on the mantra of 'Nagrik Devo Bhava' (citizen is god), which was the philosophy of Ahilyabai Holkar," he added.
Holkar, the revered queen of the Holkar dynasty in 18th-century Malwa, is remembered for her exceptional governance, commitment to social welfare, and contributions towards culture and spirituality.
Earlier, Mr. Modi released a commemorative stamp and ₹300 coin to mark her 300th birth anniversary.

Mahayuti govt reduces pre-poll crop loss relief
Mumbai: The Mahayuti govt has reduced the compensation it used to give farmers for crop losses due to unseasonal rains and other natural calamities. It has done this by rolling back an order hiking the compensation which was issued in January 2024 before the Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the state, reports Priyanka Kakodkar. The hike was announced when the Mahayuti government was led by Eknath Shinde. The directive to reduce the compensation and bring it back on par with Central government norms on relief was issued last week, just a few days after heavy rains extensively damaged crops in the state. In 2024, the state had increased the amount of land which would get compensation from 2 hectares to 3 hectares. It had increased the compensation for non-irrigated crops from Rs 8,500 to Rs 13,600 per hectare. Compensation for irrigated crops was increased from Rs 17,000 to Rs 27,000 per hectare. And for horticulture and cash crops, it was increased from Rs 22,500 to Rs 36,000 per hectare. The compensation area and amount will now be reversed to the earlier rates. Also, subsidy shall be admissible only once for the entire season for compensation for damage to agricultural crops. The new govt resolution (GR) issued says, "In view of the recent agricultural losses caused by unseasonal rains, drought and floods in the state, it has been decided to provide subsidy as per the instructions of the National Disaster Management Authority after a discussion in the cabinet meeting held on May 27th." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 35만원 지원할인 >> 71만원 임플란트 개당 36만원에 하세요 프리미엄 임플란트 프로모션 더 읽기 Undo In order to provide for additional compensation, the state used to put in more money beyond the compensation given as per National Disaster Relief Fund norms. Compensation for calamities is paid through the State Disaster Relief Fund which receives 75% of its funds from the Centre and 25% from the state. "They promised higher compensation before elections and then rolled it back. This is cheating," said Rajan Kshirsagar from the Kisan Sabha.

How India destroyed China's lethal PL-15 missile, Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drone during Op Sindoor using...
India's Akashteer air defense system shot down more than 400 Turkish-made drones during Operation Sindoor, including the Bayraktar TB2. (File) India-Pakistan tensions: Pakistan launched two of its most lethal foreign-made weapons– Chinese PL-15 missiles, and Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 military during the recent India-Pakistan military conflict, but Islamabad, China, Turkey, and indeed many world nations received a rude awakening when these deadly armament were quickly turned to scrap metal by 'Akashteer'– India's homegrown air defense system. How Akashteer downed every Turkish drone fired by Pakistan According to Indian armed forces, the Akashteer system shot down every single drone launched by Pakistan—including the much-hyped Bayraktar TB2s, Byker YIHA III kamikaze drones, Songatri and eYatri loitering munitions– with 100 percent accuracy during Operation Sindoor. 'Not a single drone reached its target,' Times of India quoted an Indian Air Force officer as saying. The Akashteer air defense system, developed indigenously by the state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), is hailed by many experts as India's answer to the Israel's famous Iron Dome, but the Indian system is considered better suited for low-altitude drone warfare compared to the Israeli AD. The indigenously-built air defense (AD) system has achieved seamless integration with the Russian-made S-400 Triumf– India's long-range missile defense system– radars, and weapons systems. The Akash air defense system is capable of automatic detection of aerial threats, and intercepting them in real time. 'Akashteer did not roar or flash, it simply calculated, executed and destroyed. Quiet precision was its loudest weapon,' according to a military official. As per defense sources, more than 400 Turkish drones were shot down by Akash AD, and their wreckage now litters the areas near the Line of Control (LoC). End of Erdogan's drone power ambitions? The catastrophic failure of Turkish drones, especially the much-touted Bayraktar TB2, is a major setback to the ambitions of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of making Turkey a global player in arms exports. 'Erdogan can sell anything – religion, weapons or dreams – to enrich his family. But the product is junk now. Baykar stopped innovating the moment it felt safe under government backing,' according to Michael Rubin of the American Enterprise Institute. Reports claim the mass decimation of Turkey's drones by India during Operation Sindoor has put Ankara's drone deals across the globe, from Africa to the Middle East, in jeopardy, and even Pakistan is allegedly mulling to cancel future orders. Pakistan had fired the Turkish drones in hopes of breaching India's air defenses, but IAF's integrated systems, including L70 guns and Akashteer radars, ensured the UAVs never even got close. PL-15 wreckage now India's geopolitical prize Meanwhile, the spectacular burnout of China's PL-15 air-to-air missile, which crash landed intact inside Indian territory, was a shocking outcome for China as the missile is one of the most advanced in Beijing's arsenal. Now, India is proudly flaunting the PL-15 wreckage as a sort of geopolitical prize, even as world powers, including the United States, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Taiwan and Australia, have reportedly lined to study the tech used by the Chinese missile, especially its dual motor. According to sources, India might have already handed the missile wreckage to to Japan for analysis.

Letters to The Editor — June 2, 2025
CDS statement, fog clears The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan's statement, that an unspecified number of India's fighter jets were downed during the hostilities with Pakistan in May, is sure to give ammunition to the Opposition parties and their earlier claims (Page 1, June 1). The Government could have avoided this embarrassing situation had it functioned transparently. When losses are a part of any combat scenario, one wonders why the government was so reluctant to brief the nation on the subject. Kshirasagara Balaji Rao, Hyderabad The CDS has put an end to the attempts at obfuscation by the Government about losses during Operation Sindoor. When the demand was raised by some Opposition parties and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, the powers that be tried to confuse the country and, worse, labelled the Opposition as anti-national. The Centre has no fig leaf now to block the demand by the Opposition to hold a special session of Parliament. Ayyasseri Raveendranath, Aranmula, Kerala The CDS's silence on the extent of India's losses raises more questions than answers. It is clear that India lost something significant on the first day of its confrontation with Pakistan. The people have the right to know the extent of these 'losses in the air'. S. Ramakrishnasayee, Chennai Valmik Thapar The passing of naturalist Valmik Thapar is a loss for wildlife management too. His bond with Ranthambore and his deep study and works are invaluable contributions to the conservation of India's pride, the tiger. Monita Sutherson, Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu
