With the second episode of Season 3, Fox's Alert: Missing Persons Unit sent viewers' jaws dropping to the forest floor as Jason and Mike (Scott Caan and Ryan Broussard) discovered that Nikki, played by original cast member and series front woman Dania Ramirez, had been murdered — with a single gunshot to the head.
Early on in the April 1 episode, titled 'Badge #41870,' Ramirez's Captain Nicolina 'Nikki' Batista was sneaked up on and jabbed with a knockout drug by Raina, someone she once arrested for felony assault and now was out on early parole.
It was eventually discovered that Raina abducted and killed Nikki on behalf of Charlie McGannon, the Irish mob boss who first showed up in Season 2 and has shared a mysterious association with Nikki.
Of note, Ramirez appeared as Nikki just last week, in the Season 3 premiere. But when Raina preyed on Nikki, when she attacked her from the back seat of her car, and again when Raina pulled her out of a car trunk, Nikki was only seen from the back, wearing sun glasses, and/or in shadowy silhouette — meaning, a stand-in clearly was used.
TVLine emailed Alert: MPU showrunner Carla Kettner a few of our burning questions coming out of Tuesday's shocking twist….
TVLINE | To be clear, there is no sleight of hand at play, no 'Nikki has gone deep undercover to expose a massive human trafficking ring'? She is indeed dead?Nikki is truly gone, and the emotional and professional fallout from her death echoes all the way through Season 3.
TVLINE | What led to this shocking exit, of the series' lead female character? Had Dania asked off, for whatever reasons? [.]It was a 'big swing' creatively. The great thing about procedurals is that you kind of know what to expect every week. But — and this is a big but — the best procedurals shake things up and find ways to deepen our understanding of the characters. Grey's Anatomy, Dexter, 24… they all killed off main cast members. It's sad to say goodbye, but I think those kind of bold changes make you sit up and pay attention.
TVLINE | Why was a stand-in used for this episode's few glimpses of Nikki? After all, Dania had appeared just last week in the season premiere.Once we established the creative direction, it made sense to give her a big farewell at the end of episode 301 and let the storytelling take care of the rest.
TVLINE | To what degree will the show change moving forward, having lost its 'I'll get your baby back' beating heart?Alert is about finding missing people, so that will always be core to our episodes and our arcs. We said 'I'll get your baby back' enough times that it was in danger of becoming a cliché, so although the words may be gone, the spirit — which is actually the important part — lives on. What I hope people take away from Season 3 is that we're not afraid to keep things surprising, because that's the best kind of ride. My only rule is that surprises need to be authentic and challenge our characters. Now that you know that's part of our DNA, I've given you a big clue to more surprises later in the season!Best of TVLine

Decades After Its Joint-Venture Journey Began, Hulu's Sole Ownership By Disney 'Finally Resolved' With $439M Payment To NBCU, Bob Iger Exults
The long and winding road of Hulu, which started in the pre-smartphone era as a streaming joint venture involving NBC and Fox, has concluded with the finalizing of Disney's buy-out of Comcast. Disney is paying an extra $438.7 million to Comcast's NBCUniversal, on top of the $8.6 billion it committed in 2023 under the terms established in a put/call arrangement unveiled in 2019. That deal, which was accompanied by Disney's $71.3 billion acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox, fueled Disney's streaming ambitions as it prepared to launch Disney+. A $27.5 billion floor value was set, with multiple third-party appraisals then entering the discussions. Disney's appraisal, not surprisingly, came in below the $27.5 billion level, while NBCU rendered an estimate that was 'substantially' higher, Disney said in an SEC filing. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts publicly jockeyed over the value of the service in a sector increasingly defined by streaming. The transaction, completed Monday, 'takes into account the valuation of a third appraiser,' the filing explained. Had the NBCU appraiser prevailed, the result would have been a payment to Comcast/NBCU of about $5 billion, Disney said. The buyout is slated to close on or before July 24. 'We are pleased this is finally resolved,' Iger said in a statement. 'We have had a productive partnership with NBCUniversal, and we wish them the best of luck. Completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for a deeper and more seamless integration of Hulu's general entertainment content with Disney+ and, soon, with ESPN's direct-to-consumer product, providing an unrivaled value proposition for consumers.' Comcast said in a statement provided to Deadline, 'Hulu was a great start for us in streaming that generated nearly $10 billion in proceeds for Comcast and created an important audience for NBCUniversal's world-class content. We wish Disney well with Hulu and appreciate the cooperative way our teams managed the partnership.' Disney has been more closely integrating Hulu with its Disney+ flagship and its linear networks in recent years. Hulu remains a key participant in Disney's vertical bundles as well as a successful one involving a third-party, HBO Max. After NBC and Fox hopped onboard the streaming pioneer ahead of its official founding in 2007, Disney soon followed and Time Warner would go on to take a 10% stake. In-fighting often hindered the progress of Hulu as its strategy continuously shifted. While each participant in the JV fell away as companies pursued their own independent strategies, the irony is that a Hulu-style coming together of legacy players is now coalescing as media giants grapple with the costs and murky financials of streaming compared with the lucrative pay-TV business. Comedian Jefferies set to host new FOX show before tour stops in Hawaii
HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new show on FOX is putting master manipulators to the test. 'The Snake' will feature 15 contestants leveraging their unique skills and relying on their powers of persuasion. Throughout the game, a 'snake' will be chosen to juggle the fate of their fellow competitors, all while trying to compete for the grand prize of $100,000. Kev Herrera Brings His Raw and Relatable Comedy to Blue Note Hawaii World-famous comedian and show host Jim Jefferies tells us 'The Snake' will have a familiar 'survival of the fittest' theme, but with a twist. 'There's no backstabbing you in this game, people are stabbing you in your front,' Jefferies said. 'What makes this show different from other shows is once you win the challenge, you get to become the snake, you get a snake medallion, the most coveted character in the game, and then we have a saving ceremony, not an elimination ceremony where the snake decides who they're going to save first. Then that person decides to save another person, and that person decides to save another person until we get down to the final two players, and the snake decides who gets to live and who goes home.'Jefferies is coming to the islands this summer for a pair of stand-up comedy shows, starting July 25 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, followed by a show at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on July 26. 'I've been writing this show for a very long time, it's good to go. I will say this about the Hawaii shows, these are the only shows in the world that I request to do every year,' Jefferies said. Check out more news from around Hawaii 'The Snake' premieres on KHON2 Tuesday night at 8:00 Hawaii Time. Tickets for his Son of a Carpenter tour can be found here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
