Dettori excited by plan for global jockeys' league
Frankie Dettori says he is "super excited" by plans to launch a global jockeys' league for flat racing next year which could potentially see him race in the UK again. The 54-year-old is among 12 riders poised to take part in the venture, which will see them compete for points under their own individual team branding.The league is set be held across 10 events at some of the most prestigious racecourses around the world.Dettori, a mainstay of the British and European flat racing scene for 37 years but who is now based in the United States, has been signed up to take part along with British riders Ryan Moore and William Buick."It's a project they have been working on for a few months and I am super excited," said Dettori, who has ridden more than 3,300 winners during his career."It will appeal to a worldwide audience - especially after the 'Race For The Crown' Netflix series - and I can't wait to get started."James McDonald, Joao Moreira and Christophe Lemaire are also among the other elite riders to have joined up.Mickael Barzalona, Yutaka Take, Irad Ortiz Jr, Flavien Prat, Zac Purton and Vincent Ho have also been slated to take part.The league has been co-founded by former Godolphin chief executive John Ferguson and Lachlan Fitt, previously chief financial officer at betting group Entain Australia.Fitt said the league will seek to "compliment the existing global racing calendar" and they will be aiming for league events to be held "in close proximity to the major racing carnivals across the world"."It is still early days in our conversations with potential host venues and we are a number of months away from finalising plans in relation to what a launch season could look like."We're hopeful there will be a number of opportunities for the league to be racing in the UK in the first 12 months."Dettori stopped riding in the UK in 2023 but has continued his career in the USA. In March the Italian filed for bankruptcy in the UK having been unable to reach agreement with His Majesty's Revenue and Customs over a long-running case of tax avoidance.

One resident of the area said: "Soon won't be any big shops open in Banbury, getting like a ghost town." Another shopper added: "If people stopped buying online it wouldn't happen." While a third added: "Gutted…..love River Island." The fashion brand, which has been sported by Paris Fury and Cat Deeley, has quietly closed a number of stores in the past few months. A branch in Willows Place, Corby closed in April and a separate site in Vicar Lane Shopping Centre in Chesterfield closed in the same month. The Sun has contacted River Island for a comment. News of the closure comes days after it was revealed that up to 230 of the retailer's stores are at risk. The retailer is set to undergo a restructuring due to tough trading conditions. The owners of River Island have brought in advisers from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to come up with money-saving solutions, reports Sky News. Popular retailer to RETURN 13 years after collapsing into administration and shutting 236 stores The proposals are expected to be finalised in a matter of weeks, though sources have reportedly claimed no decisions have been approved on the retailer's future. Accounts for River Island Clothing Co for the year ending December 30 2023 showed the firm made a £33.2million pre-tax loss. Then the turnover during the following 12 months fell by more than 19% to £578.1million. In January, River Island hired consulting firm, AlixPartners, to undertake work on cost reductions and profit improvement. However it is now understood PwC has now taken over. TROUBLE FOR BRITISH FASHION BRANDS A rise in online shopping coupled with Brits having less money to spend at the till has created problems for fashion brands. New Look has closed a number of stores in the UK and it's entire estate in the Republic of Ireland. Bosses at the women's fashion brand have blamed hikes to National Insurance for the move. Earlier this year, Select Fashion closed 35 branches across the UK after it entered into liquidation. Ted Baker was also forced to close over 30 stores last year after it went bust.

Disney+ drops to £1.99 in rare deal Netflix and Amazon can't beat
Disney Plus has brought back a mega monthly deal that shaves 60% off its usual price and makes it the cheapest streamer compared to Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV+ Disney+ is offering a subscription for £1.99 with the return of a hugely popular streaming deal. The streamer from the House of Mouse has just kicked off a 'limited-time promotion' that saves 60% compared to the usual price. It allows both new and returning customers to subscribe to Disney+ Standard with Ads for £1.99 per month for four months. This would usually cost a total of £19.96 but is now up for grabs for £7.96 – a £12 discount. However, the deal won't be around for long and is due to expire on June 30. After the four-month promotional period, Disney+ Standard with Ads will automatically renew at the then-current monthly retail price until cancelled. The deal makes Disney+ the most affordable major streamer compared to the cheapest subscription tiers of Netflix (£5.99), Amazon's Prime Video (£5.99) and Apple TV+ (£8.99). It comes ahead of a packed summer slate of new and returning films and series, led by Disney blockbuster Snow White, streaming now. Also on the way this summer are Marvel's Ironheart (June 25), season four of The Bear (June 26) and new prequel series Alien: Earth (August 13). They're set to join an ever-growing library featuring recent hits and critically acclaimed series, Andor, Welcome to Wrexham, Rivals, Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun. However, the same user added: 'Only reason it didn't get five stars is Disney are not using their other brands in the subscription. If they did this could easily be the best subscription service ever but there is much more content locked behind their own service.' However, another five-star review says: 'Good servers, good services, this nostalgia when watching old cartoons from TV. The subscription is really cheap compared to other streaming services.'

Emma Raducanu ‘really feeling it' at Queen's as she eases into second round
The 22-year-old, who secured a first doubles victory with partner Katie Boulter on Monday, revealed before the tournament – the first time Queen's has hosted women's tennis in 52 years – that she was still managing ongoing back issues, playing down expectations for this WTA 500 event which boasts a £1million prize pot. And though she insisted her hopes were 'staying low', Raducanu was in fine form on centre court – on Monday inaugurated as the Andy Murray Arena – where she dispatched Bucsa in just one hour and four minutes. I didn't necessarily feel (locked in) from the get-go, but I think as the match went on, I definitely got that. I was really feeling it.' Those back niggles have not entirely disappeared, but Raducanu was clearly enjoying herself. She added: 'I play my best when my personality is put on the court and I can express myself, and I feel like sometimes when I've been constrained to play a certain way, it hasn't necessarily worked, and I just need to be free and expressive and then certain moments of creativity can come up. 'I mean, it's easier said than done to be yourself, especially when you're on such a big stage, but for sure when I'm playing freely, when I'm swinging and taking on chances, that is when I'm at my best. Yeah, then I think as that happened today, I could kind of relax into it and more and more could come up.' Raducanu faces Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova in the round of 16 on Thursday, but next up is round two of the doubles at midday on Wednesday, where she and British number one Boulter will take on Lyudmyla Kichenok and Erin Routliffe, who knocked out the other all-British duo, Sonay Kartal and Jodie Burrage, earlier in the afternoon. British number one Boulter also punched her ticket to the second round but in much grittier fashion, battling to a 7-6 (4) 1-6 6-4 victory over Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic. 'When I walked out it actually surpassed what I thought it would feel like when I kind of imagined it,' said Boulter, adding: 'I think it's very easy to get caught up in just trying to get your first grass court match, also coming to such an historic venue as well, which holds a lot of purpose and a lot of familiar feelings when I've come here before.' Earlier, Heather Watson set up a second-round meeting with fourth seed and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina after upsetting world number 27 Yulia Putintseva 6-4 6-3. It was not to be for British wildcard Fran Jones, however, who was defeated in straight sets 6-2 6-4 by American McCartney Kessler.
