PKR needs Nurul Izzah's winning formula for GE16
IPOH: PKR deputy presidential candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar is seen as crucial to the party's top leadership as it prepares for the 16th general election (GE16).
PKR Deputy Information Chief Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said Nurul Izzah's leadership was instrumental in PKR's historic performance during the 14th General Election (GE14), when the party secured 47 parliamentary seats, the highest in its history.
"So her track record is proven. The highest number of seats Parti Keadilan Rakyat has ever won was 47, during GE14, when Nurul Izzah was the election director.
"So if this time around Nurul Izzah becomes deputy president and also takes on the role of election director, I think we could even win 70 or maybe 80 seats," he told reporters after meeting 22 out of 24 Perak PKR division leaders here today.
Ramanan, who is also the entrepreneur development and cooperatives deputy minister, said Nurul Izzah's potential return to a key leadership role, including a possible bid for the deputy presidency, could significantly strengthen both PKR and the unity government under the Madani framework ahead of GE16.
For the record, PKR won 31 seats in the 15th general election.
"But if we let the current trend continue, we might drop from 31 seats to just 19.
"That's why we need Nurul Izzah to return and help lift the party again.
"It's not that the party is weak. We just need her back, and the formula she used to win us those 47 seats.
"We need that formula to push us to 70," said Ramanan, who is contesting the vice-president post.
When asked if he officially endorsed Nurul Izzah's candidacy for the party's deputy presidency, Ramanan was unequivocal.
"I support Nurul 100 per cent, actually, 101 per cent.
"I have no other stance. I'm not playing both sides, not jumping between camps. I'm with one camp only, and that's because of her performance.
"It's a track record. It's not about favouritism. I'm not that type, and I've been in politics for a long time.
"But the main point I want to highlight today is that I want the party to win more seats.
"I want a stronger party.
"Now, if she takes the role of deputy president while we are the government, just imagine how many more seats she could deliver, and the kind of spirit she could instil in party members to work harder," he said.
The Sungai Buloh member of parliament also urged grassroots members to make wise choices ahead of the party elections, cautioning against attempts to mislead or confuse.
"My advice to the grassroots members is this, choose wisely. I have to say it, choose wisely.
"Don't let yourselves be misled.
"Sometimes in politics, when people can't convince, they start to confuse (others).
"So stop confusing (people) and try to convince instead. Don't resort to confusion just because you fail to convince," he said.

MCA berates repeated delays in e-invoicing roll-out after IRB exempts biz below RM500k annual revenue
THE Madani government is strongly urged to cease the repeated deferments of its e-invoicing exercise by openly acknowledging the current lack of readiness for implementation and to embark on a comprehensive review of the nation's long-term tax structure. This is because the series of repeated delays are unfair to businesses that have already invested significant time and resources in preparation for the exercise, according to MCA's Selangor Youth Chief Tan Jie Sen. On Thursday (June 5), the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) announced yet another delay in its implementation of the e-invoicing system which is originally scheduled to be enforced this year for companies with an annual turnover of RM1 mil. Following exemption granted to businesses earning less than RM500,000 annually, the e-invoicing implementation phase for taxpayers with annual income of RM1 mil up to RM5 mil is now postponed to Jan 1, 2026 while that of taxpayers with annual income or sales up to RM1 mil has been deferred to July 1, 2026. 'More critically, such indecisiveness undermines public and business confidence in government policy,' Tan who is also an MCA Youth central committee member pointed out in a statement. 'The postponements also reflect unresolved issues within the current e-Invoice framework and its support infrastructure. 'The Finance Ministry (MOF) and the IRB must be transparent about these shortcomings by providing a concrete and practical plan for improvement rather than resorting to indefinite delays.' In a related development, MCA also took a swipe at the recent announcement by Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying that the government will soon expand the scope of the Sales and Service Tax (SST) via a gazette next week. 'This effectively amounts to a backdoor tax increase and lays bare the fiscal pressures facing the national treasury,' asserted Tan. 'Given the current state of strained public finances and rising fiscal burdens, the government must set aside political prejudices and seriously consider the reintroduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).' He added: 'Compared to the existing SST regime, GST offers a more structured, transparent and broad-based taxation model. It is also a more sustainable mechanism that can cushion the socioeconomic impact of subsidy removals in the future.' – June 7, 2025

Boycott PKR in GE16 greets Nurul Izzah's victory; grassroots foresee rot from prevalent family ties
WHAT an anti-climax! Instead of being jubilant, many Reformasi diehards who have been vital lynchpins to PKR's very existence have vowed to disassociate themselves from the party which they claimed have switched to self-destruction mode following Nurul Izzah Anwar's victory against incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in the PKR deputy presidency race. This came about as Malaysiakini broke the news citing party election committee chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa as having announced that Nurul Izzah has toppled the Economy Minister with 9,803 votes. Tak rasmi: Rafizi kalah pemilihan PKR — Malaysiakini (BM) (@mkini_bm) May 23, 2025 Although Dr Zaliha did not state the number of votes polled by Rafizi, it was revealed in the party's Borang Keputusan (Borang 14) that the Pandan MP garnered only 3,866 votes which means the eldest daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim won by an overwhelming majority of 5,937 votes or 60.6% margin. Sarcasm of sorts filled the news portal's comments section with the most popular being 'hopefully later, Nurul Izzah's other sisters will contest for the party's vice-presidency'. Another insinuated that her younger siblings may even vie for head of PKR's youth wing or even PMX's son-in-law (Nurul Izzah's husband) as a member of the party's Central Leadership Council (MPP). On a more serious note, many anticipated the party to languish from nepotism, hence wanting to disassociate themselves from PKR come the 16th General Election (GE16). Boycotting the party or abstain from voting in GE16 which means turning their back to the PKR-led Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition would point to PMX being a one-term premier, insinuated one disgruntled grassroot member. One commenter expressed disbelief at how PMX used to hit out at twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for promoting his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as his successor yet he (PMX) himself is doing the exact same thing now. Another contended that it has become clear why prominent leaders like Datuk Ezam Mohd Nor (a founding PJR member) or Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (former deputy president) eventually left the party to join the opposition while one is bracing for PKR/ruling PH coalition to come under fire from their own supporters. 'There's no need to await the official results for the writing was already on the wall … I wish PH a happy return to being an opposition … confirm you shall be a flop in GE16; you've lost my vote,' fumed one supposedly staunch PKR backer. While it may be too soon to gauge the anticipated devastation, one 'overseas-stationed' commenter summed up that his entire family members who are still residing in Malaysia will no longer vote for Nurul Izzah, her father, her mother 'or the party now gasping under the weight of your entitlement!' – May 24, 2025
