INDIA Bloc Slams ECIs Bihar Electoral Roll Revision, Calls It Attack On Constitution
Singhvi met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi and questioned the timing of the SIR exercise, noting that it is being carried out only months before the upcoming Assembly elections.
"Firstly, the last revision was in 2003. For 22 years, more than four of five Bihar elections have happened. Were all those elections faulty?... Secondly the Special Intensive Revision which was held in 2003, was held one year before the Lok Sabha Elections, two years before the Assembly election. Today you are having in July, a maximum period of one or two months for an electoral revision exercise of the second most largest electoral populated state in India, Bihar...You want to have it in one and a half to two months," the Congress leader said, ANI reported.
The delegation included representatives from various parties, such as the Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist-Leninist), Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Congress. Abhishek Manu Singhvi cautioned that such a rushed revision process could distort the electoral rolls and called it a direct threat to constitutional democracy.
"This enfranchisement is the worst attack on the basic structure of the Constitution. Today, every word counts, even if you wrongfully delete or wrongfully add a single voter, it is creating a non-level playing field that affects democracy and elections. This violates the basic structure of the Constitution," Singhvi added.
The ECI has claimed that the SIR is only meant to verify voters and to identify any 'ineligible voters' ahead of the Assembly elections which are expected to be held later this year in Bihar.

While the term 'impeachment" is technically reserved for the removal of a President, the procedure for removing a High Court judge involves a similar process under Article 217 read with Article 124(4) of the Constitution. According to sources, the government will follow the established legal framework and initiate the next steps accordingly. According to sources, VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, too, is likely to give a ruling in the case soon. Panel Report Calls for Resignation The in-house panel, comprising Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, Himachal Pradesh Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia, and Karnataka High Court's Justice Anu Sivaraman, submitted its findings to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on May 4. The committee was formed on March 25, days after firefighters allegedly stumbled upon large sums of unaccounted cash while responding to a fire at Justice Varma's Delhi home. Sources cited in a Bar & Bench report said the findings of the committee were damning and recommended that Justice Varma be given the option to resign immediately. If he refuses, the report will be forwarded to the President of India, triggering the formal process for judicial removal. This development marks a rare and serious moment for the Indian judiciary, with the government now poised to initiate one of the most stringent constitutional processes available for judicial accountability. "Will have to cross that bridge when we come to it": Jaishankar on Lindsey Graham's Russian sanctions bill
Washington, DC [US], July 3 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday (local time) that the Indian embassy and ambassador have been in touch with US Senator Lindsey Graham regarding the bill on Russia and India will have to cross that bridge if it comes to it. While addressing a press conference, Jaishankar stated that India's concerns and interests on energy, security have been made conversant to Graham. When asked about US plans to impose 500 per cent tariffs on the import of Russian Oil, Jaishankar said, 'Regarding Senator Lindsey Graham's bill, any development which is happening in the US Congress is of interest to us if it impacts our interest or could impact our interest. So, we have been in touch with Senator Graham. The embassy, ambassador have been in touch. Our concerns and our interests on energy, security have been made conversant to him. So, we'll then have to cross that bridge when we come to it, if we come to it.' Graham's sanctions bill on Russia would impose a 500 per cent tariff on imports from any nation that purchases Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products, The Hill reported. The bill has over 80 co-sponsors in the Senate, potentially making it veto-proof. After the war erupted between Russia and Ukraine, the US and Western nations imposed sanctions on Moscow. However, India has continued to purchase Russian oil. Earlier in May, Lindsey Graham said he is in touch with US President Donald Trump regarding the bill. Republican lawmakers have indicated they are worried about moving the bill but are waiting for approval from Trump before bringing the legislation to the floor. When asked whether Trump is giving instructions on when the bill will come to the floor, Graham stated, 'We are separate entities coordinating with each other,' The Hill reported. Graham is proposing a carveout for his Russian sanctions bill to exclude nations that help Ukraine's defence, protecting them from a 500 per cent tariff for trading with Russia. (ANI)

The BJP MLA stated that his party will remain in power for the next 20 years and that no attention will be given to Priyank Kharge's statement. 'Priyank Kharge should think once. BJP is PM Narendra Modi's party, which will stay in power for 20 more years. Your party (Congress) will not be in power. It doesn't even deserve to be in is no need to give more attention to his statement', the BJP MLA said. Priyank Kharge on Tuesday slammed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over their General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's statement demanding reconsideration of the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. Alleging that the RSS wants to 'alter' the Indian Constitution, Kharge said that these are the same people who 'staged a protest when the constituent assembly debates were going on and burned the constitution'. Responding to recent remarks made by Hosabale, the Karnataka Minister said, 'Very clearly, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in his last speech has defined anti-nationals as those who create animosity by bringing in caste, and those people who are going to impede the social, political and economic progress of the country are the real anti-national. Those people who sow the seeds of communal hatred in society are anti-national. So who's doing that right now?...'. (ANI)
