Miami Dolphins need more very large people and Kenneth Grant fits the bill
The Miami Dolphins have needed more big people.
When did Dolphins rookie defensive tackle Kenneth Grant realize he was big?
"Kindergarten," Grant said, after the Dolphins made him the NFL's 13th overall pick.

This is an oversimplification, of course. You can't just be big and you can't just add a bunch of big people and expect to win a Super Bowl. Or, at least, a first playoff game this century.
Grant is 6-foot-4, 331 pounds, though he's said he played at 345 for Michigan last season.
Grant is an "off the bus guy."
He's the guy you want the other team to see getting off the bus before a game.
The Dolphins have been perceived as too soft, with an emphasis on speed and creativity over sheer force and will and power. The hope for general manager Chris Grier is Grant delivers on all that promise of power.
Big people beat up little people.
Miami Dolphins combat soft label by adding giant Kenneth Grant

It would have been great if the Dolphins were able to move down five or seven or nine spots and pick up an extra Day 2 pick and still land Grant.

But moving down, finding love and winning the AFC East is hard to do.
"We were actively trying to do it," Grier said of working the phones to move.
Some draft pundits have given the pick a D or an F, but that is meaningless.
The Dolphins badly wanted to add a toughness gene to their makeup for 2025, and Grant fits the bill.
Grant has studied Buccaneers big man Vita Vea.
"Just a wrecking ball," Grant said. "He causes havoc in the backfield."
The addition of Grant should help free up Zach Sieler to make plays.
Coach Mike McDaniel said Sieler texted him "happy things," after the selection.
Was Grant really, as reported, nearly 300 pounds in middle school?

"I guess around there,' Grant said, adding, "To be honest, I don't think I was 300 in middle school. That sounds a little off."
A lounge chair off the deck of a ship, as they say? Either way, the Dolphins have added a very, very big anchor in the middle of the defensive front.
Could Grant have a Tim Bowens-type impact? One can hope.
The Dolphins entered the NFL Draft with 15 linebackers and four defensive linemen and so you knew the defensive trenches would be addressed in Rounds 1, 2 or 3.
Was Grant a little bit of a reach at 13? Maybe. Probably.
A small reach for a needed big man.
Doesn't matter what the pundits say anyway.

All that matters is that Grant plays as well as Grier and McDaniel and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver need him to – in less than five months.
NFL Draft pick Kenneth Grant fills immediate Dolphins need
Grant may not be fully formed and it will be interesting to see what percentage of snaps he ends up playing, especially what percentage on third downs.
But Grant is a unique athlete. He can move very well for a very big man.
And that is something Miami desperately needs.
The Dolphins also need a butt-kicker, to be juvenile for a moment.
Robert Hunt was a butt-kicker on the offensive line trenches and Miami is still seeking his replacement.
Michigan defensive lineman Kenneth Grant (78) celebrates after Ohio State misses a field goal during the second half at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024.
To an extent, Grant replaces Christian Wilkins, a year too late, though Grant is bigger and not as explosive. But, still, Grant should replace Wilkins' toughness and grit and impact. They hope.

Should. There are no guarantees.
We know Grant is big. We know he adds toughness.
Miami Dolphins' Kenneth Grant should help Zach Sieler
"Pocket push," McDaniel said.
The Dolphins entered Day 2 with massive, gaping needs at cornerback and guard, and we'll see if Grier successfully triages the problems.
But the Dolphins have added a very, very big person on Day 1 of the NFL Draft.
And the Dolphins believe he's the right guy to help beat some people up on Sundays.

Abdul Carter had an Embarrassing 'Welcome to the NFL' Play on Saturday
Abdul Carter had an Embarrassing 'Welcome to the NFL' Play on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. All eyes were on Abdul Carter and the New York Giants on Saturday afternoon in Week 2 of the preseason as they hosted the New York Jets. After an impressive NFL preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills a week ago, Carter — the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft — did what he could to hype up his fans, posting a Star Wars video on his social media to build the hype. Unfortunately, things played out differently against the Jets. In the first half of the game, Carter had his first big "welcome to the NFL" moment, getting chipped to the ground by tight end Stone Smartt, and then pancaked by right tackle Jay Tufele. For someone who stands 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, it was a rather surprising thing to see, especially as talented as Carter is. What Fans Are Saying About Abdul Carter's Mishap There are multiple videos on social media of Carter's unfortunate play, one of which has 1.2 million views already. Others have upwards of 400k views, so you can easily say that this play is going viral. Here's a look at what some fans are saying: "Welcome to the league, young fella," one fan wrote. "Hit the gym, young fella," another added. "Abdul Carter is gonna have his flashy sacks, but he is also gonna have a lot of these plays," said another. "Good player, but not a savant like Micah Parsons." "Abdul Carter is an objectively incredible physical specimen and he just got de-cleated by a TE," one fan said. "NFL talent is so different man. Happens to the best of them." Abdul Carter Stats and Outlook Carter ended up recording just a single tackle in this game, which was a 31-12 win for the Giants. Going forward, there are high expectations for the rookie on New York's front line, especially playing alongside the likes of Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence. The Giants are hopeful that they can be a decent team in 2025, but there are major questions to answer at the quarterback position. Right now, Russell Wilson is projected to be the starter, but guys like Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart, and Tommy DeVito are all in the mix as story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 17, 2025, where it first appeared.

Bucs' Todd Bowles supports Jamel Dean despite rough game against Steelers
Jamel Dean has been on the hot seat all offseason for the Bucs with fans, media, and everyone who has watched the team play this preseason and in 2024. The pass defense is the achiles heel of this Bucs team. One that, if not fixed, will be the reason they underachieve and fail to reach the heights they have the potential to achieve. This past weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jamel Dean struggled against the team's backup wide receivers. Despite the rough stretch, Todd Bowles is not shying away from supporting his veteran cornerback with whom he has won a Super Bowl. Bowles supported Dean by saying, "I think he had a very good preseason and a very good [training] camp. Obviously the touchdown he gave up was because his eyes wandered somewhere else and then we busted a play before that. He's been playing well, he's been very aggressive, he's worked on little things we talked about, and we're pleased with where he's at." Dean has been listed as a trade candidate and a cut candidate; either way, it seems folks are predicting he will play elsewhere. The beauty of the game of football, everyone has an opinion on what they see. To the benefit of Dean, Bowles, and general manager Jason Licht, their opinions are the only ones that matter.

3 trade packages for the Bucs to offer the Bengals for Trey Hendrickson
The Bengals recently announced they would be open to hearing trade offers for their All-Pro edge rusher, Trey Hendrickson. The Bengals would still have their first-round pick edge rusher in Shemar Stewart to cause problems, which is why, along with the report, the team said they would not even need an edge rusher in return. That is where Jason Licht could step in and make a splash for the Bucs to get them on the brink of a Super Bowl while veterans like Lavonte David and Mike Evans debate retirement. We aimed to do our best Jason Licht impersonation by providing three trade packages that we are confident everyone will agree are great ideas. Because, of course, everyone thinks every trade is a good one and there is no room for thinking otherwise, right? Trade Package 1 This package is popular among fans on social media, but it lacks some explosive pieces for the Bengals to pull the trigger on it. The Bengals would be departing with an All-Pro, nearly 18+ sacks a season player, they are going to need a lot. Logan Hall is a reliable defensive lineman who would help the Bengals' abysmal defense, and the two draft picks on the second day of the draft would help in the long haul for a team that hates paying players. Perhaps this gets it done, most likely it wouldn't, but hey, it would be a starting point. Trade Package 2 The Chris Braswell experiment would be over for the Bucs, and they would be all in on 2025 with this move. The second-round draft pick stings, but getting a fourth back helps, not to mention getting Hendrickson. Someone is going to have to get aggressive with the Bengals to make a trade happen because both Hendrickson and the Bengals don't want to make a trade. The challenge is enticing them to do so, and higher draft capital does that. Which leads us to our final offer. Trade Package 3 Note: This deal would come with a contract extension for Trey Hendrickson, keeping him in Tampa Bay for the next three to five years. This deal seems like a lot, because it is. This is the same package that the Bears sent to the Raiders to get their All-Pro pass rusher, Khalil Mack. The two first-rounders are the heavyweight fighters here for either pick because no one likes committing that type of draft capital. However, when you get a player like Hendrickson, who helps you immediately become a Super Bowl contender in a loaded NFC.
