5L fine on construction sites emitting dust
The 'Guidelines for Clean and Safe Construction' issued by the MAWS department mandate strict dust mitigation protocols for building sites, batching plants, and demolition zones.
Violators will face fines ranging from 1,000 to 5 lakh depending on the built-up area and severity of the violation. Construction activities will be halted if issues are not rectified within 15 days of notice and a seven-day grace period.
The move comes amid rising concerns over particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) levels from demolition, excavation, and material handling posing serious health risks.

The guideline suggests measures including 6m–10m tin barricades around sites, high-density dust netting, anti-smog guns, water sprinkling, proper on-site storage of materials, and secure transport of waste. Sites must also carry out regular cleaning and stop dumping on public roads.
