‘Heartbroken to hear, he will be deeply missed…': Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay passes away at 65

Mint22-05-2025

Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, who capitalised on Peyton Manning's success in securing a new stadium and helping the team win a Super Bowl championship, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 65.
Pete Ward, Irsay's longtime right-hand man and the team's chief operating officer, announced in a statement from the team. He said Irsay died peacefully in his sleep.
'Jim's dedication and passion for the Indianapolis Colts in addition to his generosity, commitment to the community, and most importantly, his love for his family were unsurpassed,' Ward said. 'Our deepest sympathies go to his daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, Kalen Jackson, and his entire family as we grieve with them.'
"We were deeply saddened to learn of Jim Irsay's passing today," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, as reported by Reuters. 'Jim was a friend, and a man deeply committed to his family, the game, the Colts, and the Indianapolis community. He spent his life and career in the National Football League. Starting as a teenager as a Colts' ballboy, he learned every position in the organization before assuming leadership of the Colts approximately 30 years ago. Jim's Colts won the Super Bowl, hosted another and built Lucas Oil Stadium.'
In a post on X, Barstool Sports wrote, 'An absolute legend. RIP Jim Irsay.'
American football Peyton Manning's heartfelt message on Jim Irsay's passing. He said in a post on Instagram, 'I am heartbroken to hear about Irsay's passing. He was an incredibly generous and passionate owner and I will always be indebted to him for giving me my start in the NFL. His impact on the players who played for him will not be forgotten.'
US Senator Todd Young said, 'Jim Irsay's passion for football was surpassed only by his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed. My condolences to the entire Irsay family and Colts organization.'
The Colts captured their lone Super Bowl under Jim Irsay's ownership during the 2006 season, defeating the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI. They returned to the championship game at the end of the 2009 season but fell to the New Orleans Saints 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV, Reuters reported.
During Irsay's 38-year tenure with the franchise from 1984 to 2024, the Colts compiled a regular-season record of 316-294-1 and went 13-16 in the playoffs.
With Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian, Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy, and quarterback Peyton Manning, Irsay played a key role in transforming the Colts from a struggling franchise into a consistent championship contender, AP reported.
In recent years, however, Irsay faced ongoing health issues and became less publicly active, especially after a fall at his home.
On December 8, Carmel, Indiana police responded to a 911 call from his residence, where they found him breathing but unresponsive, with a bluish tint to his skin, according to the police report, as reported by AP.

Action! Jets using helmet-mounted cameras to help Justin Fields and the other QBs improve

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — There's a new addition to the New York Jets ' huddles this offseason. And it's not just the quarterback. The team is using video cameras attached to the top of the helmets of Justin Fields and fellow QBs Tyrod Taylor, Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook throughout organized team activities and the Jets' three-day minicamp this week. The purpose is to record every aspect of the play, from the quarterback getting the play, taking the snap, going through his reads and finishing. Then, the players and coaches can closely review the footage — and make director's cuts to the plays and the playbook. 'Yeah, it's kind of cool,' Fields said Wednesday. 'It's my first time ever doing it, but it's definitely cool just basically kind of hearing the play call again and kind of just going through, making sure you're just doing everything within the process of the play. So yeah, I like the GoPro a lot.' Using technology to measure progress is far from a new concept in the NFL, with several teams incorporating cameras, GPS systems and virtual reality in training, something the Jets did several years ago. Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has used a helmet-mounted video camera and Minnesota also used them on its QBs last season. Jets coach Aaron Glenn was with Detroit when the Lions used GoPros and he and his staff, including offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and quarterbacks coach Charles London, thought it might be useful with a new set of signal callers in New York. 'We said, let's give it a shot in rookie minicamp and see what it looks like, and then we loved it and we just said, let's just do it,' Engstrand said. "Everybody's doing it the whole time and it's been phenomenal for those guys. It gives direct feedback. Shoot, the O-line coach is in there watching the tape with his O-line, you know what I mean? 'Because you can hear everything — you can hear the calls. It's been really beneficial for us.' One of the knocks on Fields during his first four NFL seasons has been that he sometimes holds onto the football too long, leading to sacks and interceptions. The GoPros can be used as a tool to help offset and improve that shortcoming while allowing Fields and the rest of the quarterbacks to understand what they're seeing and hearing — and how it's translating on the field. 'Instead of trying to guess, 'Where did your eyes start?' we'll go back and watch it,' London said. 'You can see where his eyes started and you can see how he went in his progression.' It also helps the wide receivers, running backs, tight ends and offensive line get more familiar with the quarterback's cadence while watching the recorded video and audio. And everyone can hear every on-field comment, too, leading to some laughs. 'They only turn it on when you're actually on the field,' Fields said before grinning. 'But, I mean, some funny things have definitely been said and they've definitely been picked up, for sure.' That might take some getting used to for some players, but Engstrand said all the quarterbacks were open to the idea. "We didn't have to convince them of anything because they look at it and they go, 'This is a way for me to improve,' and that's what they're all here to do," Engstrand said. 'They're all here to find a way to get better and help contribute to the team and get us some more wins on the board. So, there was no convincing needed there.' Fields, a first-round draft pick in Chicago in 2021 who spent last season in Pittsburgh, has previously spoken about using his past experiences to help improve on and off the field. He's heading into this season as the Jets' starting quarterback and plans to gather some of his offensive teammates for throwing sessions during the break before training camp next month. 'I kind of had a feeling when I got here guys were looking for a leader to step up on offense,' Fields said. 'So, I was glad to receive that role and, of course, pushing the guys each and every day to be our best and play up to our standard.' And Fields has been doing exactly that — and his work on the film has gotten rave reviews. 'The biggest takeaway I would say is that this guy is just a workaholic,' Engstrand said. 'He comes in early, he's here late and he's trying to digest everything and download all the information and do things the right way. He's trying to do things that we're asking and I think he's really put the next foot forward every day, just trying to stack days, and it's been really good.' /hub/nfl

'Growing up she saw this': Jordon Hudson's former boss reveals what may have drawn her to Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots' legend, has been in a pretty controversial relationship with 24 year old Jordon Hudson for a few years now. While Jordon Hudson has been constantly trolled for being with someone who is so much older than her, Bill Belichick has always defended her. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Many fans have also accused 24 year old Jordon Hudson of being a 'gold digger' because she is dating Bill Belichick but it seems like she has a strong reason to fall in love with the NFL legend. Is this the reason why Jordon Hudson fell in love with 73 year old Bill Belichick? Recently, celebrity hairstylist Dougie Freeman spoke to The Athletic, where she opened up about her experience with Jordon Hudson when she used to work for Freeman. Dougie Freeman said, 'I consider her a supernova…' as she also spoke about the reason that might have led Jordon Hudson to start dating 73 year old Bill Belichick. Dougie Freeman spoke about how the Massachusetts town has been very welcoming to all kinds of relationships and that might have influenced Jordon Hudson in some way. She said, 'Growing up in this town, she saw how alternative relationships work. They can work. I think that validated it for her.' While Jordon Hudson has not reacted to Dougie Freeman's claims yet, her boyfriend, Bill Belichick, has stood up for her again at a recent press conference. Bill Belichick makes it clear how Jordon Hudson helps him in his work at UNC Last month, Bill Belichick appeared on Michael Strahan's show, Good Morning America, and opened up about how Jordon Hudson helps him in his work. Bill Belichick said, 'She does the business things that don't relate to North Carolina that come up in my life so I can concentrate on football. And that's what I really want to do…So she did a good job of keeping me on balance there.' However, Bill Belichick's claims on how Jordon Hudson helps him in his work at the University of North Carolina have fallen on deaf ears. A few weeks ago, a video of Jordon Hudson had gone viral when she was spotted on the field as the UNC's football players practised. This raised many eyebrows as fans accused Jordon Hudson of 'distracting' Bill Belichick. Also Read:
