Currently, Patelco's Receive instant payments offering is available to members with wealth management accounts, enabling real-time transfers 24/7 and immediate access to funds. The credit union has future plans to expand the offering to include Send use cases later this year.
"Patelco's successful launch of instant payments is a testament to the fully embedded, secure design of Payfinia's IPX platform," said Keith Riddle, general manager of Payfinia. "They are a shining example of a credit union that is adapting to its members' rapidly evolving needs, while still ensuring the highest level of security and eliminating the risk of fraudulent activity. Concord Technologies Introduces Direct Secure Messaging Within its Concord Connect™ Platform to Transform Healthcare Data Exchange

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Concord Technologies ('Concord'), a leader in Secure Document Exchange, Intelligent Document Processing, and Interoperability solutions, today announced the upcoming launch of Direct Secure Messaging (DSM) within its Concord Connect™ platform, available Fall 2025. This enhancement marks a significant step forward in enabling healthcare organizations to modernize how patient information is received, processed, and integrated across systems. Healthcare teams face persistent challenges in managing patient data during transitions of care and care coordination. Information often arrives from disparate systems and in both structured and unstructured formats, making timely, secure, and compliant data exchange difficult. DSM is a secure transport protocol that supports the exchange of a wide range of healthcare-related information. It is built on the widely adopted Direct Standard® and enables the secure, encrypted exchange of clinical information between trusted healthcare entities. With the addition of DSM, Concord Connect™ will support secure delivery of clinical records via a DSM address alongside Digital Fax. Using Concord's Practical AI™, these incoming documents are then indexed into appropriate queues where key pieces of patient data—whether structured or unstructured—are extracted and analyzed for intelligent workflow automation and insertion into systems of record. This process, known as Straight-Through Processing, simplifies intake workflows, accelerates integration with downstream technologies, and minimizes delays in the triage and processing of critical patient information. 'At this year's DirectTrust® Annual Conference, it was exciting to see our vision for secure, interoperable data exchange validated,' noted Chris Larkin, Chief Technology Officer of Concord. 'Concord's ability to intelligently receive and process both structured and unstructured data addresses one of healthcare's most persistent challenges: fragmented intake workflows. By integrating multiple modalities like Digital Fax and Direct Secure Messaging into a single platform, we're enabling providers to triage and route patient information faster than ever before. The enthusiastic response from industry leaders confirms we're solving real problems—and we're just getting started." "Our vision for Straight-Through Processing is grounded in addressing the critical challenges faced by healthcare organizations,' said William Cavanaugh, Chief Executive Officer of Concord. 'Concord Connect is a powerful example of that vision in action—bringing together structured and unstructured data into a single, intelligent workflow. By streamlining the sharing and processing of patient data, and enabling Straight-Through Processing, we're helping providers accelerate care delivery and reduce administrative burden, all while maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance." About Concord Technologies Concord Technologies is a leading provider of Secure Document Exchange, Intelligent Document Processing, and Interoperability solutions to healthcare providers, payers, and other highly regulated businesses. For more than 20 years, billions of sensitive records containing valuable patient information have been reliably, accurately, and securely sent and received across Concord's digital health network, and today, the company processes more than 4 billion pages of protected data each year. The company is also recognized for its best-in-class development of new artificial intelligence technologies, including Concord's Practical AI™ approach to solving the most pervasive administrative challenges in the healthcare industry and for its industry-leading applications that help its customers grow and manage their business.

Why wireless access is a necessity, not a luxury

When was the last time you went a full day without using your phone? For most people, the answer is probably never, at least not by choice. Whether it's answering a job offer, checking on a prescription, accessing school records, or navigating to a doctor's appointment, countless aspects of daily life depend on having a working phone number and wireless service. 'A phone number is not optional today,' says Derek Ting, founder and CEO of TextNow. 'The default assumption is everyone has one.' As head of a company that offers free and low-cost cell service, Ting sees this connection as fundamental to full participation in modern society. And yet, for millions of Americans, it remains precarious or out of reach. NO PHONE, NO ACCESS 'Today, a phone number is basically as important as a Social Security number,' Ting says. 'You can't get a doctor's appointment without one. If you apply for a job, how do you find out if you got it? They call you back. When your prescription is ready, they text you.' Even the most routine interactions, like signing into a banking app or receiving emergency alerts, depend on being reachable. In many settings, your smartphone is your digital ID, insurance card, transit pass, and employment credential wrapped into one device. According to Pew Research, 15% of U.S. adults rely exclusively on smartphones for internet access. Among those earning less than $30,000 annually, that number jumps to 28%. These individuals often lack broadband at home and use their phones for everything from gig work to virtual learning to telemedicine. At the same time, the average monthly cost of a phone plan in the U.S. hovered around $141 in 2025. And most providers require a stable address, credit check, and upfront payments. 'Even if people can pay,' Ting says, 'a rigid payment structure doesn't work for everyone.' That rigidity hits vulnerable populations the hardest—immigrants, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those experiencing homelessness. Unpaid bills can lead to losing not just your service, but your phone number itself. And once phone service lapses, so does access to critical tools for getting back on track: job alerts, bank notifications, school messages, or the ability to contact a social worker. Government programs like the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) were designed to help. ACP supported over 19 million U.S. households with up to $30/month toward mobile or broadband service. But access was uneven and involved lots of red tape, and funding began running out in 2024. As that safety net shrinks, the gap between those who can afford to stay connected and those who can't is widening. 'It's unfair to make people choose between eating or paying for phone service,' Ting says. 'That shouldn't be a choice.' If access to running water and electricity is considered nonnegotiable, Ting asks, then why not wireless service? The idea that wireless access should be affordable and available for all, not just a privilege for those who can afford it, was behind his vision for TextNow, the only ad-supported free phone service provider in America. Originally launched in 2009 as a free ad-supported text service, TextNow has expanded to offer customers unlimited talk and text, including basic apps and the option of daily or monthly internet access. Since then, Ting's broader message has always centered on rethinking what wireless access should be. The sooner we stop treating it as a luxury and start recognizing it as a basic need, he says, the better equipped we'll be to build a more inclusive economy and society. 'We're in a time of economic hardship for many people,' he says. 'The reality is you can't function in daily life in many ways without cell service. And we want to make sure everyone has access to the things they need to live their best life.'
