Samsung Display introduces MONT FLEX brand for foldable displays
Here's how Samsung explains it. 'M' stands for mechanical durability, 'O' for opto-mechanically flat, 'N' for narrow bezels and 'T' for thin and lightweight design.
In more detail, the M highlights innovations like the shock-resistant structure that allowed the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 displays to survive 500,000 fold cycles. The O highlights the work put into making the crease less visible. Narrow bezels give you more screen area. Finally, the whole industry is striving for thinner and lighter foldables and slimming down the display helps do just that.
'Mont' is also French for 'mountain', which is intentional – Samsung says that it represents the pinnacle of foldable innovation.
'Since beginning mass production of foldable OLEDs in 2019, we have continued to drive technological innovation to perfect the product—becoming the first in the industry to apply UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and LEAD, a polarizer-free OCF technology, to foldables,' said Jae-Nam Yun, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Display Marketing Team at Samsung Display.
Hold on, let us grab our tech initialism dictionary. LEAD stands for Low power consumption, Eco-friendliness, Augmented brightness and Designed to be soft and light. OCF or On-Cell Film improves visual performance while also making the display thinner and lighter.
'Following the launch of a foldable panel with a newly developed 'shock-resistant structure' that passed the 500,000-fold durability test, we will continue pushing the boundaries to deliver even more refined foldable products that exceed market expectations,' said Jae-Nam Yun.
Foldable panels from Samsung Display are, of course, featured on the Galaxy Z series. The company sells to other smartphone makers too – recently, unofficial info surfaced that Apple has ordered panels for its upcoming foldable.

Here's how much these classic phones would cost in today's money
Twenty years ago, smartphones were an exotic rarity. The average mobile phone was way more compact, had that classic T9 keyboard, more often than not a small display, and a quirky hardware feature of some sort that set it apart from the rest of the devices available on the shelves at the time. But the most important feature of them all? The much cheaper price tag. Indeed, one thing that's common with some of the most iconic phones from back in the day was the more palatable cost. True, due to the way inflation works, everything was cheaper back then as compared to 2025, but but due to one reason or another, the cheapest flagship phone today seemingly has the same price tag as some of the most expensive phones back then. How about a quick nostalgia trip? During the prep work for our upcoming "Iconic Phones" book project, we had to do some math and adjust what some legendary phones from back in the day would cost in 2025 when adjusted for inflation. Motorola Razr V3 (2004) –– One of the most iconic clamshell devices of all time, the original Razr had a $499 price tag. Today, it would have launched at $849. Apple iPhone (2007) –– Apple's very first iPhone cost $499 at launch, a more affordable price compared to other high-end devices at the time. Today, the price would be $749 when adjusted for inflation. BlackBerry 7230 (2003) –– This legendary QWERTY warrior launched at $399 back in 2003, and that price got you a reliable communicator device that made texting effortless.
