Before Jaya, This Was Big B's First Love. Here's Why Their Romance Came To An End

News185 days ago
Hanif Zaveri said Amitabh and his first love lived together and could have married, but his career was unstable. Shy Amitabh often faced her confident, outspoken nature, he added
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, one of Bollywood's most iconic couples, have been married for over 50 years. Their love story began on the sets of the film ' Guddi ', which was released in 1971. However, many may not be aware that Jaya was not Amitabh's first love.
Recently, celebrity biographer Hanif Zaveri revealed in an interview that Amitabh's first love predated his arrival in Mumbai. However, this relationship ended before the release of Amitabh's debut film Saat Hindustani.
Zaveri disclosed that Amitabh fell in love with a girl named Maya while he was working in Kolkata, earning a monthly salary of around Rs 250-300. Zaveri said, 'She was working at British Airways at the time. Amitabh Bachchan loved her deeply, and she loved him just as much."
After his job in Kolkata, Amitabh moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in films. Initially, he stayed in a bungalow in Juhu, which belonged to a friend of his mother, Teji Bachchan. Maya frequently visited him there, but Amitabh feared his mother might discover their relationship. Consequently, he decided to leave that house.
At the time, Amitabh was working on his first film ' Saat Hindustani ', alongside Mehmood's brother Anwar Ali. Zaveri said, 'He shared his problems with Anwar, who understood his concerns and offered him a place to stay at his house." Anwar had received the flat from Mehmood, and Amitabh resided there for a while.
Zaveri said, 'He (Amitabh Bachchan) and Maya lived together for some time and might have gotten married, but Amitabh's career was unstable then. In those days, Amitabh was very shy, while Maya was confident and outspoken. She would speak her mind regardless of who was present, sometimes even scolding Amitabh. Anwar Ali and Amitabh's other friends didn't like this, and eventually, it began to trouble Amitabh himself."
Zaveri said that Anwar had discussed the matter with Amitabh Bachchan. 'Anwar told me that while shooting for Saat Hindustani in Goa, he advised Amitabh to end his relationship with Maya. He felt she would not fit into the Bachchan family and that, if Amitabh wanted to progress in films, this relationship could become an obstacle. Amitabh too began to feel something was missing between them. Gradually, he distanced himself from Maya, and eventually, they parted ways."
Amitabh's first film, ' Saat Hindustani ', was released in 1969. He later married Jaya Bachchan in 1973.

Coolie Sells Very Good 36,000 Tickets In Top Chains For Day 1 In Hindi Coolie is gearing up to become the biggest opener of Kollywood, worldwide. The film's opening day worldwide is pegged at around Rs 150 crore. For an actor who has been around for 50 years, it is truly remarkable that he is able to still build that level of curiosity among the audience that he is catering to. To deliver the industry's biggest opener at the age of 74 is a testament of his enduring appeal. It also puts Lokesh Kanagaraj in the list of India's top 5 directors currently. His ability to churn blockbuster cinema eveery two years is remarkable and commendable. Coolie Will Be The Most Preferred Indian Movie On 14th August, 2025 Worldwide Among Indian Movies War 2 looked to be a stiff rival when the clash was confirmed to be happening. However, War 2's global opening now shall be just a little over half of Coolie. War 2 will need some really strong holds in the days to follow, to secure a better lifetime than Coolie. War 2 Final Hindi Advance Booking Report: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR film ends pre-sales selling 155,000 tickets in top chains for opening day

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, and starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani has ended its India presales on a decent note, for the Hindi version. The film's total ticket sales in top chains like PVRInox and Cinepolis for day 1 stand at 155,000 tickets. The bookings are better than Fighter, and the average ticket rate is higher too. An opening in the vicinity of Rs 27 crore net can be targetted and that would be a decent result, if not a great or exceptional result that is expected from a film as big as this. War 2 Closes Presales By Selling 155,000 Tickets In Top Chains For Day 1 In Hindi The bookings of War 2 are healthy for Independence day. If reports are favourable on the opening day, a Rs 50 crore plus day 2 can be fancied. An extended opening weekend of Rs 150 crore net or so is on the cards, if the content of the movie lands. That would also make the film, well in contention for a Rs 300 crore plus finish. The Telugu version of the movie will also be putting up solid collections for the first weekend if the word of mouth is favourable. The second highest grossing Spy Universe film is all but certain, in that case. Of course, the footfalls of Tiger Zinda Hai and Pathaan require more mass support, which does not seem likely based on the movie's pre-release units that incline more towards the class audiences. War 2 Has Found More Than Just A Stiff Rival In Coolie War 2's release rival Coolie is turning out to be a much bigger threat than it seemed to be. It was always going to lead in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, but for it to lead in Karnataka and Telangana, while coming really close to War 2 in Andhra Pradesh is a shocker. Even in North India, it now has enough capacity to put up over Rs 5 crore net for the Hindi version. In short, Coolie is definitely the most preferred movie choice on 14th of August, 2025, and it remains to be seen if War 2 can outdo Coolie on the Independence Day holiday. War 2 In Theatres War 2 plays in theatres in just a few hours now. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
