‘Ugly-cute' Labubu doll craze places Pop Mart CEO Wang Ning among China's richest, is worth $22.7 bn

Labubu, the quirky 'ugly-cute' doll, has become an internet sensation and a favourite among celebrities, igniting a new wave of fashion trends. From Rihanna and BLACKPINK's Lisa to Ananya Panday, stars around the world have been spotted showing off their Labubu dolls. Amid the global craze, Wang Ning, CEO of Pop Mart International Group, has now become one of China's ten richest individuals, according to Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires List. His net worth is now estimated at a staggering $22.7 billion, primarily due to his stake in Pop Mart. Created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, the creation first entered the toy industry in 2015. However, it was 2019 when the sales of Labubu dolls skyrocketed after a collaboration with the Chinese toy giant, Pop Mart. The global craze for Labubu has played a key role in fueling Pop Mart's growth. In 2024, the company's net profit reportedly jumped by 188 per cent, with total sales more than doubling from the previous year to reach roughly 13 billion yuan (around $1.8 billion), the report said. Revenues from the Monsters collection, which features Labubu, soared by an extraordinary 726.6 per cent, serving as a major catalyst for the rise in Pop Mart's value. Labubu dolls, priced between $20 and $30, are sold in 'blind boxes', a format where buyers only discover which design they have received after unboxing. This element of surprise sparked a trend across social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. In an interview with Hypebeast, Lung shared that his time in the Netherlands was a major source of inspiration for the character. 'I liked to read storybooks and was influenced by ancient European elf legends,' he explained. Reflecting on his early years, Lung added, 'There were no game consoles or computers, so I had to draw dolls with a pen, so I had the idea of painting fairy tales since I was a child.'

Mark Walter Net Worth: How rich is the potential owner of the Los Angeles Lakers?

Mark Walter just became one of the most powerful figures in the sports world, especially in the US sports arena. The CEO and founder of holding company TWG Global is set to acquire a majority ownership stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, acquiring it from the Buss family − led by Jeanie Buss − for a $10 billion valuation, ESPN reported. The Lakers are one of the most recognizable sports brands in the world, and the sale could mean great things for the team that has won 18 NBA championships. Jerry Buss had purchased the team in 1979, and since then – it has been in the Buss family. He died in 2013, leaving the franchise to his children. His daughter, Jeanie Buss, took over as principal owner. It will be the first time in more than 45 years that the Lakers won't be owned by the Buss family. This marks the end of an era for one of the NBA's most influential families. Neither Walter nor the Lakers has made a statement about the reported sale. This sale is not only a monumental day in Los Angeles, but in the United States as it becomes the most expensive purchase agreement of a US pro sports franchise in history. And it has propelled Mark Walter into the focal point of US sports. Who is Mark Walter? Under his tenure, they've won World Series titles in 2020 and 2024. He is also involved with the LA Sparks (WNBA), Andretti Global (Formula 1 — Cadillac F1 team), the Professional Women's Hockey League, and has minority stakes in Chelsea FC, RC Strasbourg, among others. Net worth of Mark Walter: The potential owner of the Los Angeles Lakers' net worth estimates vary depending on valuation methods and timing, but they consistently position him among the world's wealthiest financiers and sports moguls. While Forbes estimates Mark Walter's net worth at $6.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth currently stands at $12.5 billion, and ranks him No. 226 globally. These fluctuations are likely to stem from different valuation sources and asset coverage: Core business holdings: Guggenheim Partners, handling over $320 billion in assets, is central to his wealth—but exact ownership percentages (likely ~20%) are closely held Sports investments: Walter has owned the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2012, which is now valued at approximately $6.3 billion. Now, with the Los Angeles Lakers deal, his net worth is expected to only increase, given the team's valuation recently hit $10 billion in a historic sale. He also has stakes in Chelsea FC, LA Sparks (WNBA), Cadillac F1, Professional Women's Hockey League, and other racing entities. Personal and investment holdings: Walter holds Stakes in Beyond Meat, Carvana, and a portfolio of insurance and real estate assets, which adds to his whopping net worth. Giannis Antetokounmpo's wife Mariah Riddlesprigger shuts down his newfound passion as the Greek Freak sought help from IShowSpeed and Kai Cenat

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Mariah Riddlesprigger. Image via:Money has a loud noise, and everyone seems to fall for it, even Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. In a recent clip, having a chat with his wife Mariah Riddlesprigger, Antetokounmpo shared that he wants to stream and make loads of money. However, the idea was straightaway declined by his wife, who reminded him of existing responsibilities on his hands. Giannis Antetokounmpo's wife, Mariah Riddlesprigger does not want her husband to fall for streaming Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo may be one of the NBA 's most dominant forces on the court, but off the hardwood, he's considering an entirely different arena, live streaming. In a playful interaction with his wife, Mariah Riddlesprigger, Giannis opened up about his desire to step into the world of online content creation, sparking interest across social media and the streaming community. During a now-viral TikTok Live, Giannis turned to his fans and asked, 'Should I start streaming? IShowSpeed, Kai Cenat, help a brother out!' The questioncertainly showed his genuine curiosity about diving into the booming world of streaming. Giannis praised both Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed, calling them engaging and excellent at what they do. 'I've seen them how they're doing it, they're actually good at it. Engaging, they're very good!' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Foz Do Iguaçu (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo The two popular streamers, who have built massive audiences on Twitch and YouTube, were name-dropped repeatedly as Giannis contemplated following their lead. His interest appears to be more than a passing thought, it's part of a larger trend of elite athletes exploring ways to connect with fans beyond traditional sports media. However, not everyone in the Antetokounmpo household was sold on the idea. His wife, Mariah, quickly offered a practical perspective. When Giannis asked why he shouldn't pursue streaming, she immediately rejected the idea, 'Because we have four kids and a lot of other responsibilities.' The couple's humorous back-and-forth continued, as Giannis tried to justify the venture by pointing out the financial upside. 'Do you know how much money they make? They make a lot of money, baby.' Even though he already has a lucrative NBA contract— with $54 million set for the upcoming season and nearly $300 million earned in his career— Giannis seems intrigued by the challenge and creativity of streaming. He recently returned from a vacation in Brazil and appeared refreshed and reflective, perhaps setting the stage for new endeavors during what he called 'the greatest offseason of all time.' 'Basically, I'm having my own podcast without doing nothing,' Giannis joked. 'People are out here asking me questions.' His wife quipped in response, 'Which is what streamers do, right?' Also Read: Who is Mark Walter? Here's everything you need to know about Los Angeles Lakers' new owner Of course, at this point, it is not clear if Giannis would actually follow on the idea of being a streamer as part of his side hustle, but Mariah is skeptical as she fears that the Greek Freak will be left with very little time for his family amid his already busy NBA schedule.
