Model is first Strictly Come Dancing star with Down's syndrome
Ellie Goldstein, an actress and model, has been announced as the latest contestant for the upcoming series.
The 23-year-old will become the first person with Down's syndrome to compete on the main series of the BBC dancing show, after TV presenter George Webster appeared on the 2022 Christmas special.
The trail-blazing model said she was 'absolutely over the moon' to be joining up with the cast and professionals for the new series.
She said: 'It's a show I've loved watching for so long, and the chance to now be part of it feels like a dream.
'I know it's going to be challenging, but I'm ready to do it with the glitter and glamour and make some magic on that dancefloor. Let the Strictly journey begin.'
Goldstein joins a line-up which so far includes former Love Island winner Dani Dyer, EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal, ex-footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, actress Alex Kingston, YouTube star and podcast host George Clarke, and Olympian Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.
The model, who graced the front cover of British Vogue for the May 2023 issue, said she hoped to be paired with Ukrainian dancer Nikita Kuzmin.
'I love him! I want him, please, I love him so much,' she told BBC Breakfast, adding: 'He's good-looking! He's got a heart-warming, loving smile, making me happy. He's sexy, hot, fit, all the things for me.'
Goldstein has featured in advertising campaigns for brands such as Gucci Beauty and Adidas, appearing on the front covers of Glamour, Elle and Euphoria magazines.
In her cover interview with Vogue, she said: 'My disability has taught me to be 'me' – and not to be scared of doing things louder in the world.
'[It's about] following your hopes and dreams. Never give up, be who you are and smile all the way.'
'Emotional and proud'
Two years ago, Goldstein partnered with Mattel to launch the first ever Barbie with Down's syndrome.
'When I saw the doll I felt so emotional and proud,' she wrote on Instagram. 'It means a lot to me that children will be able to play with the doll and learn that everyone is different.'
More recently, Goldstein has appeared in CBBC's Malory Towers and on this year's Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer.
She said it was an 'honour to be involved in such an incredible cause'.
Strictly judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke will be returning for 2025.
The BBC will be hoping for a controversy-free series after being plagued by scandal in recent years.
Last year, allegations of bullying emerged against professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, as well as claims of physical and verbal abuse against dancer Graziano di Prima.
Di Prima left the show after kicking Zara McDermott, the former Love Island contestant, during rehearsals, while actress Amanda Abbington claimed she was left with PTSD after alleged bullying by Pernice in 2023.
Pernice says he has 'always rejected any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour'.
The BBC said it 'upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made', and apologised to Abbington.
Wynne Evans, the opera singer and radio presenter, was also dropped by the broadcaster after he was accused of using 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

Princess Margaret's lady-in-waiting Lady Glenconner reveals how she found 'solace' in her garden during 'dark times' after losing two sons and facing abuse from her husband
Princess Margaret 's former lady-in-waiting Lady Anne Glenconner has revealed how she found 'solace' in her garden during 'dark times'. In a wide-ranging interview with The Telegraph to mark the release of her book Lady Glenconner's Picnic Papers and other Feasts with Friends in paperback, the British socialite, 93, opened up about the death of her two sons. 'My garden has been a constant companion. It has seen me through so much sadness, so much grief,' explained the late Queen Elizabeth II 's friend. 'The most difficult time of my life was losing two of my sons. Henry died of Aids in 1990, Charlie died of drugs in 1996. My third son Christopher had also been in an appalling motorcycle accident. 'At one awful point, I thought I was going to lose all three. When I got home from nursing Christopher, I would sit in the garden. In dark times, it became a place of solace, of peace.' Lady Glenconner's second son Henry, who came out as gay after getting married and having a son, died aged just 29 from Aids in 1990, while eldest Charles passed away in 1996 from hepatitis. Meanwhile, her third son Christopher, born in 1968, suffered a catastrophic head injury in a motorbike accident while on a gap year in Belize. She nursed him as he spent four months in a coma, before caring for him for five years after he woke up. Mother-of-five Lady Glenconner, who for decades served as a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret, also endured a campaign of abuse from her late husband of 54-years, Colin Tennant. The 3rd Baron Glenconner subjected his wife to sadistic beatings and was a flagrant adulterer - but the couple stayed married until his death in 2010. During the 'dark times' she suffered, Lady Glenconner took 'solace' in her gardens, where she had eventually planted a touching gesture to remember her sons. The aristocrat revealed to The Telegraph how she planted trees in her garden that represented them. In her garden, she planted a red beech for Henry because of his own red hair while Charlie had a horse chestnut grown in his name since he greatly enjoyed collecting conkers as a child. Lady Glenconner revealed how she says hello to the trees that represent her children every day. In her 2022 memoir Whatever Next?: Lessons from an Unexpected Life, Lady Glenconner recounted some of her husband's worst rages. The mother-of-five was left deaf in one ear following a particularly vicious beating, during which she feared her husband would kill her. It happened one night in the late 1970s, when the family were celebrating the birthday of their twin daughters, Flora and Amy, on Mustique, after he bought the Caribbean island in 1958. Tennant was infuriated by Lady Glenconner's decision to excuse herself from speaking with clients so she could return to her children. After roughly forcing her into his car and driving them home, Tennant physically attacked her. 'Drawing up at the house, I got out of the car and before I knew what was happening, he hit me across the head from behind with his shark-bone walking stick,' she said. 'It knocked me straight to the ground. And then he launched in on me. I lay there, trying to protect my head and begging him to stop. He didn't: he was in a frenzy, quite out of his mind. I was utterly terrified, convinced he might actually kill me. 'I have no idea how long it lasted, but eventually he tired himself out. I lay there until I heard his car drive off, then crawled into the main house and locked myself into the bedroom.' Lady Glenconner, who is still deaf in one ear to this day, said Tennant did later apologise and promised he would not do it again. Shortly before he died, Tennant changed his will and left everything he owned to his valet, Kent Adonai. Lady Glenconner later said that the decision was 'one last flourish of his sadistic side, the side that revelled in the distress of others and which at times had made any sort of marriage to him seem an impossible burden'. Lady Glenconner served as a maid of honour at the late Queen's Coronation in 1953. Above: She is seen third left on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the Royal Family after the Coronation service 'I could not and would not be broken by him from beyond the grave, any more than I would allow it when he was alive … I made a conscious decision not to dwell on that final act of cruelty.' Lady Glenconner later admitted that her decision to share her own story of her husband's abuse had been 'influenced' by Queen Camilla's work with domestic abuse survivors in her role as patron of the Safelives charity.

Edinburgh local who 'despises' Fringe brands festival an 'embarrassment' in tirade
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Edinburgh local has shot out online about the Edinburgh Fringe, calling it an "embarrassment" where tourists have "no respect for locals". They posted an angry video to TikTok, showing a mobbed Edinburgh street packed with tourists amid the capital's busiest time of year. In the caption they included a tirade against Festival season and the crowds it brings to Edinburghers' doorsteps. They said: "Words cannot describe how much I DESPITE this sh**** festival. There's little in the world I hate more than the embarrassment that is the Edinburgh Fringe. "Nobody has any respect for the people who live here. Just full of the same unfunny middle class English shows every year. "I could write a book on why this festival needs to be terminated." Fellow capital residents joined ranks in the comments to share their frustration at the Fringe. One commented: "At this point Edinburgh is just a theme park for the English". A miffed parent added: "My daughter has to elbow her way to work from Waverley during August. She booked her own holiday days this year to miss some of it". Another shared: "I do wish BBC would give more coverage to the Edinburgh festival, not the Fringe". However, there were many Edinburgh residents in who disagreed with the hot take and offered alternative points-of-view on the festival. One said: "We live somewhere with the world's largest arts festival on our doorstep. We're so lucky." Another offered: "I stayed in Edinburgh for about 20 years and it's one of the best things about the city. Can't beat a wee sunny afternoon in the Pleasance Courtyard". A third penned: "Disagree and I've lived in Edinburgh during the festival. It's amazing for tourists and culturally important". Others added: "It's an essential tool for people who want to get into the arts and it's a feeder for some of the best British theatre and TV".

Strictly Come Dancing star Vicky Pattison took to social media to show her fans the painful after-effects of a gruelling week training for her debut on the hit BBC show A Strictly Come Dancing star has shown off the painful results of her training schedule just days into rehearsals for the show. Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison has been busy preparing for the new season of Strictly, which is due to get underway in weeks. She took to Instagram to share images of her extremely sore-looking feet after her first week of rehearsals. Her painfully swollen, cut, and blistered feet had fans feeling squeamish as she shared pictures and wrote, "And so it begins," adding a crying and laughing emoji. In a second upload, Vicky discussed how strenuous preparations for the live shows were, and she admitted feeling like she had been "hit by a car", and that she had found "dancing so hard." She said, "Our first @bbcstrictly rehearsal... The start of the day versus... the certainly was a baptism of fire lads... that's for sure! If I was doubting my ability before.. then I REALLY am now!!! Dancing is SO HARD!" Vicky then praised the Strictly professional dancing team as she continued, "No wonder those pros are all drop dead gorgeous. I feel like I've been hit by a car and I've already got blisters.. WTF??? "A serious newfound appreciation for everyone who's ever taken part! BUT... what an amazing day, the team are incredible, the celebs are so wonderful ,and the pros are an absolute joy." She added, "If I hang around long enough... I think I'll really love my new family. I'm off to think about my life choices and apologise to all the fellas I stepped all over today!" Vicky's post comes after Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn was confirmed as the 15th name on the celebrity competitor line-up. The star is best known for having appeared on the HBO fantasy series as Hodor, and also works as a DJ. He will now be preparing to take to the dancefloor and put his footwork to the test for viewers and judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke as the fan favourite returns for its 23rd series. Other stars taking to the dancefloor include former Love Island star Dani Dyer, actress Alex Kingston, EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal, legendary footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, TikTokker George Clarke, Drag Race star La Voix, model Ellie Goldstein, and rugby star Chris Robshaw. The line-up also includes Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, also known as Nitro, The Apprentice contestant Thomas Skinner, Good Morning Britain's Ross King, Lioness Karen Carney and Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis. The news comes after Strictly has faced a fresh scandal after claims of cocaine use by two show stars, with reports suggesting their substance use was an open secret on the show. It follows a rocky few controversial years of allegations of backstage bullying, misconduct claims and several stars being axed or suspended by the BBC over their behaviour.
