Disney Dream cruise tragedy averted near Fort Lauderdale; father and rescue crew save girl who fell overboard
A tragedy at a Disney Dream cruise was narrowly averted on Sunday, June 29, when a young girl fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her. Thankfully, both father and daughter made it out alive after being successfully rescued by the Disney Dream crew. The Disney cruise had been on a trip to the Bahamas, and was returning from the Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in order to head back to Forth Lauderdale, Florida.
It was during this return journey that tragedy almost struck. Thankfully, due to the efforts of the girl's father and the cruise crew, what could've been a harrowing day instead became a story of heroism, with a father who put his life at risk to save his child, and a rescue team that delivered when it mattered the most.
A father jumped after his child after she went overboard
A Disney cruise vacation turned chaotic when a young girl reportedly fell from the Disney Dream ship, prompting her father to jump into the sea to save her. The child fell overboard from the cruise ship's Deck 4, which had a walking/jogging track. Given how quickly her father jumped after her, it's widely assumed that he was with his daughter when she fell overboard. This event became a talking point on social media, as many of the passengers on the cruise ship reported that the Man Overboard (M.O.B) alarm had rung out, alerting them to the fact that something was wrong. Their live posting about what was going on was part of the reason the event went viral in the first place.
Online discussions about the girl falling overboard fueled speculation
There was rampant online speculation about the overboard incident on social media, with people questioning how the girl fell overboard in the first place, and whether or not the cruise ship was docked when the incident occurred. The Facebook account of Dewayne Smith posted about the incident, claiming that it was the first time he'd witnessed a fellow passenger falling overboard. He was also among the first people to confirm that both the girl and her father had been successfully rescued.
When it came to speculation about the ship's location at the time of the rescue effort, a cruise passenger with the Reddit username metzd87 explained that the ship wasn't docked at the time: 'Not docked! Halfway between Bahamas and Ft. Lauderdale! Fully moving! Heard in our rooms 'Mr. M.O.B port side.'"
Regardless of the questions raised about how a child could fall overboard in the first place, her successful rescue speaks to the dedication and competence of the girl's father as well as the Disney Dream rescue crew.

After Defending Diljit Dosanjh For Sardaar Ji 3, Naseerudin Shah Deletes FB Post
Naseeruddin Shah defended Diljit Dosanjh amid backlash over his film Sardaar Ji 3, urging not to blame actors for casting decisions and to separate art from politics. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, who recently came to Diljit Dosanjh's defence amid backlash over his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, has now deleted the Facebook post in which he addressed the controversy.v Diljit had come under fire for working alongside Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the third instalment of the popular Sardaar Ji franchise. In his now-deleted post, Shah had clarified that the casting of the film was not in Diljit's hands, and urged people not to hold actors personally responsible for creative decisions made by producers or studios. The acclaimed actor also spoke more broadly about the strained relationship between India and Pakistan, voicing his concern over attempts to restrict personal or artistic exchanges between the two nations. He talked about the importance of keeping art and cinema separate from political tensions. Shah has deleted the post now. He did not issue a statement explaining why he removed it though. On Monday, Naseeruddin took to social media to support Diljit saying, 'I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they've got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned. What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever i feel like it". 'And my response to those who will say 'Go to Pakistan" is 'GO TO KAILASA"," he concluded. Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh has stayed confident about his decision to release Sardaar Ji 3 worldwide. He recently gave fans a peek into how the film is being received in Pakistan. On Instagram, Diljit re-shared a video showing an excited crowd inside a Pakistani theatre cheering during a scene featuring actress Hania Aamir. In another post, he shared the film's early box office success, revealing that it had earned Rs 11.03 crore in just two days of release. At the moment, Diljit Dosanjh's latest film Sardaar Ji 3 is at the centre of a major controversy. The film, which also stars Neeru Bajwa and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, has been criticised heavily for featuring a Pakistani actor. As a result, it was not released in India and instead opened internationally on June 27. After the trailer was launched, several groups began calling for a ban on Diljit and all his future projects in India. Both the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued statements demanding the ban. The controversy comes shortly after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, and India's response — Operation Sindoor — which involved air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2' begins filming with Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and more to return
Production has officially begun on The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci returning to reprise their roles. The sequel is being developed by Disney's 20th Century Studios and is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026. Kenneth Branagh has joined the cast as the husband of Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, played once again by Streep. The studio confirmed the casting and start of production through a social media post featuring an image of red high heels, referencing the original film's fashion-centric setting. The first film, released in 2006 and based on Lauren Weisberger's novel, followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she took a job at a high-profile fashion magazine under the demanding leadership of Miranda Priestly. The book, often viewed as a roman à clef, was loosely inspired by Weisberger's time working as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour. While detailed plot information for the sequel has not been released, reports suggest the story will center on Priestly facing the challenges of an evolving media landscape. Blunt's character, Emily Charlton, is now a senior executive at a luxury fashion group that holds key advertising influence, setting up a professional conflict between the former colleagues. It is unclear how Andy Sachs will fit into the new storyline. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who worked on the original film, are returning for the sequel. Producer Karen Rosenfelt is also back on board.
