Nga Kor Ming Disburses RM1M Aid to Teluk Intan Students
The Minister of Housing and Local Government said the allocation was not only given to students who obtained excellent results in their examinations, but also to assist students from less-affordable families.
'The MADANI government always protect all groups and races, whether Malay, Chinese, Indian or other races, all are given equal attention.
'The cash contributions are allocations from the Teluk Intan Member of Parliament Service Centre,' he told a press conference after the bursary handover programme to students in the Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency at the Hilir Perak District Education Office here today.
Also present was the Perak Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, Consumer Affairs and Kampung Baru Cina Committee chairman, Woo Kah Leong, who is also Pasir Bedamar Assemblyman.
Regarding today's programme, Nga said a total of RM82,000 was allocated to students who obtained excellent results, namely those who scored 11As, 10As and 9As in last year's Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.

The lawyer representing the family of the late Zara confirmed that there were indeed injuries on the body of the 13-year-old, as reported on social media following his observations during the post-mortem process at the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) on Sunday (Aug 10), reported Sinar Harian. Lawyer Shahlan Jufri told the Malay language daily that he spent eight hours in the autopsy room without eating or drinking to observe the entire procedure conducted by the forensic team. "There are definitely injuries, there are indeed injuries. The injuries are as you know from social media, that's how it is. "Beyond that, I cannot disclose as it is still under investigation and is confidential. "I don't quite remember the number of injuries, but there were indeed fractures, there were indeed injuries," he said when met at the Forensic Department of HQEI on Sunday night. Zara Qairina's remains have been reburied in Kg Mesapol in Sipitang, 30 hours after she was exhumed for a post-mortem examination. The body of the late Zara Qairina was exhumed at 7.30pm on Saturday for the post-mortem ordered by the Attorney General's Chambers as part of investigations into her death. Zara Qairina was found unconscious near a drain close to her hostel building at the religious school in Papar on July 16. She subsequently died from the injuries the next day and was buried at her hometown cemetery on the same day (July 17). With the completion of the post-mortem, Sabah police have yet to indicate the next course of their investigations.

Those with taxable incomes over RM100,000 a year contributed to 86% of individual income tax collected in 2023, says Finance Ministry
KUALA LUMPUR: Individual taxpayers with taxable incomes exceeding RM100,000 annually contributed a significant 86% of the total individual income tax collected in 2023, says the Finance Ministry. It said this contribution formed part of the RM37.77bil in individual income tax collected by the government for that year, which represented 22% of the total direct tax collection of RM171.34bil. "Of this, the top 20% of taxpayers, with taxable incomes over RM1mil, played a substantial role in bolstering Malaysia's fiscal resources. "Their contributions are crucial in maintaining economic stability and supporting national development," said the ministry in a written Parliament reply on Aug 11 (Monday). Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) had inquired about the number of individuals in Malaysia with net wealth exceeding RM100mil and their tax contributions. The ministry said such specific data was unavailable in the Inland Revenue Board's (LHDN) records, as net wealth does not directly correlate with income tax liabilities. "Certain assets are not subject to income tax unless sold or disposed of, such as real estate or specific investments," it said. The government, it added, appreciates the role of high-income taxpayers in bolstering economic stability and strengthening the country's fiscal position. "The government remains committed to enhancing tax compliance and addressing tax leakage issues, particularly among high-income individuals with assets and wealth not aligning with reported taxes. "This includes income kept in offshore accounts, cross-border transactions, domestic transfer pricing, online activities and shadow economy cases," it added. In addition to tackling tax leakage, the government is focused on improving tax administration efficiency through digitalisation and encouraging tax compliance via ongoing awareness efforts. "We are continually refining the structure and treatment of income tax to ensure a fair and progressive taxation system in Malaysia," it added.
