Karma Lays Out Its (Optimistic) Product Plans Through 2028
Yesterday Karma unveiled yet another new model, a hybrid-electric coupe called the Amaris, based on the third-generation Revero architecture. I saw it at Karma headquarters in Irvine, California, and it looks nice. It's pictured above.
It's hard to keep track of all this Karma stuff without a program, so here's a refresher. The current Karma Automotive came about when Henrik Fisker's Fisker Inc. went bankrupt in 2014, due to the bankruptcy of battery supplier A123 and Superstorm Sandy wiping out a bunch of finished Fiskers on a dock in New Jersey.
The current Karma Automotive was founded when Chinese auto parts supply giant Wanxiang purchased the assets of Fisker Inc. at a bankruptcy auction.
Are we clear on all that? Now have a look at the current and future Karmas, presented on a timeline from now till 2028.In 2016 Karma Automotive began building a 'new' car called the Revero based on the bones of the former Fisker. In fact, it looked and drove like a Fisker. A few years ago it got a refresh. The Revero four-door four-seater is now in what Karma calls its third generation, with a 28-kWh battery good for not-quite-80 miles of all-electric range.
But Karma makes only 160 Reveros a year at its assembly facility in Moreno Valley, California. Soon you'll be able to get a sportier version of the Revero called the Invictus, shown above, but they're only making 30 of those. After that comes the Gyesera hybrid (Karma uses the term EREV for plug-in hybrid, meaning Extended Range Electric Vehicle). The Gyesera is yet another take on the Revero architecture, with four doors and a newer-looking body. Karma said yesterday that the Gyesera will be in production by the end of the year, also in Moreno Valley.
The Gyesera four-door was previously shown as a battery-electric, but changing market conditions—i.e., lower-than-expected demand for EVs—forced a return to PHEV/EREV powertrain. The Amaris is the two-door coupe that was revealed yesterday at Karma HQ in Irvine. It will also be a hybrid, with its own take on the Revero architecture wrapped in a hot carbon-fiber body. It'll come out in the fourth quarter of 2026, Karma claims. You can see it at The Quail this summer, complete with an interior, a feature the model displayed at yesterday's program did not have. This is Karma's electric super coupe, with 1,000 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 180 mph. It even has a range of 250 miles, Karma says. It's going into production in 2027.
Karma promises 'otherworldy presence forged by the American spirit,' as well as butterfly doors that 'open with a dramatic flair, reminiscent of a red-carpet arrival.'And finally, the Karma Ivara GT-UV (Grand Touring Utility Vehicle) will arrive in 2028. The Ivara sports near-SUV proportions. Karma says it establishes 'a new segment of multi-terrain capable vehicles, the GT-UV, or Grand Touring Utility Vehicle. Its signature Comet Line draws exotic proportions, projecting an otherworldly boldness unseen before in the ultra-luxury segment.'
Will any of it happen? Who knows? Karma president Marcus McCammon, whom we've known since he was product manager of the Dodge Neon SRT-4 more than 20 years ago, says the Moreno Valley facility can make 15,000 vehicles a year when it has three shifts working. He expects Karma Automotive to become profitable by 2028 or 2029. And somehow Karma Automotive has carried on since the company's founding in 2014. Ya just gotta believe!

This Hybrid EREV powertrain delivers over 100 miles of electric-only driving range, and over 400 miles of combined driving range (electric and ICE). Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You The Insurance Savings You Expect Great Rates and Award-Winning Service Amaris begins production in Q4/2026, and will be priced from approximately $200,000USD. "Amaris delivers all the joys and indulgences of a thoroughbred performance coupe – staggering pace, exuberant style and opulent interior appointments – balanced with an ultra-low emissions Hybrid EREV powertrain which offers the freedom to refuel with gasoline or recharge with electricity, whichever is more convenient," says Marques McCammon, President and Chief Executive, Karma Automotive. "Amaris delivers pure desire paired with eco-conscious driving like no other vehicle in the world." The powerful yet timelessly elegant carbon fiber and aluminum body of the Amaris, specified for Monterey Car Week in Solar Blaze Red paintwork, features the latest evolution of the Comet Line design language first established with the upcoming Karma Kaveya super-coupe. With Amaris, the Comet Line originates in the sculpted cowl aft of the nose, continuing rearward in an arc across the sides of the hood, descending rearward to amplify the wide, aggressive rear track. 22" Constellation wheels, crafted in forged aluminum, fully-establish the purposeful, fluid stance of the Amaris. The voluptuous clamshell hood – incorporating Karma's Target Lighting signature – creates a seamless transition and visual flow to the front fenders. The Backslash design element punctuates the space between the front wheels and the "swan doors," which gracefully pivot upwards to dramatic effect. Its sleek rear glass profile concludes with an aero pass-through spoiler that reduces aerodynamic drag while creating rear axle downforce for increased stability at high speeds. The Americana-inspired side exhaust further signals performance and capability. Inside, the cabin of the Amaris is specified in Crimson Orbit leather and suede, with carbon fiber and piano black accents. Like the Kaveya super-coupe, Amaris features an electro-chromatically adjustable full glass roof; and "orbits" which visually define the driver and passenger environments. Amaris is shown in its 2-seater configuration, with its rear compartment sculpted to accommodate travel bags. Carbon fiber adorns the doors, center console and rear support brace, creating the visual effect of an exposed carbon fiber monocoque with floating leather and suede panels. The door panel forms are drawn forward, descending from shoulder height towards the footwells, creating a sense of speed and acceleration. This same dynamic effect applies to the center console, which houses the gear selector and—concealed beneath a hinged leather ignition cover to further heighten anticipation for the driving experience ahead—the "Start" button. Following Karma Automotive's "reductionary" approach, non-essential features remain hidden until called upon, including the co-pilot's display which illuminates once the passenger is seated; and cupholders that are concealed by the wireless phone charger until it is retracted with a gentle touch. The interior environment also hides atmospheric lighting that can be adjusted by the user, or changes according to the drive mode selected. One SoCal Fisker Dealer is Still In Business and Has Inventory
Fisker filed for bankruptcy last year and subsequently shut down, leaving owners with no parts, repair support, or warranty coverage. The company's only model, the Ocean, saw heavy discounts as it attempted to recoup some of its sunk costs, but one Southern California dealership has more inventory than they'd probably like. Oddly, the dealer is actually Newport Fisker, which raises a bunch of questions on its own, but the store's inventory is packed with bargain basement Ocean SUVs. Fisker originally charged around $38,000 to start, with prices ranging up to around $80,000. Most of the models in Newport's inventory cost around $25,000, but that's likely a drop in the bucket compared to the headaches owning an EV from a defunct brand would bring. EVs tend to depreciate much faster than their gas-only counterparts, and Fisker's demise knocked the Ocean's resale value further, but again, buyer beware. Unlucky owners have relied on word of mouth and online forums to find parts, but even if they can find the part they need, there are no ongoing software updates or support. That's a tough situation, considering that the Ocean didn't work all that well from the factory, and the company's software updates barely addressed problems, even when it was in business. You might get lucky and find one of the rare, problem-free Oceans in Newport's inventory, but it's a risk we'd advise against taking. That paltry $25,000 purchase price could buy a vehicle that lasts a while, but it's more likely to net an SUV with a range of small problems, and there are few to no resources to support owners when something happens. Karma Automotive unveils the Kaveya hypercar at Goodwood Festival of Speed
At this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, Karma Automotive, an American luxury EV company, debuted their latest hypercar; The Karma Kaveya. The Kaveya, which took part in the famous Goodwood hill-climb can achieve up to 1,000 horsepower and has a fully electric power train. The Keveya is equipped with a 120-kWh battery pack that provides a targeted range of over 250 miles. The vehicle can DC fast charge from 10-80% in approximately 45 minutes. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Great Rates and Award-Winning Service The Insurance Savings You Expect Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You According to the brand, the Karma Kaveya aims to redefine luxury and performance, designed to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under three seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph. Frankie Youd spoke with Nicholas David, vice president of global design, Karma Automotive, to learn more about the vehicle, the design itself and future plans. Frankie Youd (FY): Could you provide some background on Karma Automotive and what you are showing at Goodwood Festival of Speed? Nicholas David (ND): Karma Automotive is based in California. The design and R&D facility is in California, as well as the factory near Palm Springs. We've been going now for about eleven years. I've been with the company for about three years. The brand is now moving towards the ultra-luxury space. I think that's going to be great for us; we want lower volume, a higher margin and far more exclusivity. What we have at Goodwood this year is the Karma Kaveya. There will be around 1,800 units made and sold. There might be some different variants. What we have here today is the four-motor electric version; it will also come as a two-motor, rear-wheel drive. The two-motor starts at about $300,000 and the four-motor will start at about $400,000, but you will be able to spec it accordingly. What we want to do with Karma Automotive is get a lot of personalisation, to have people come in and configure it. It's also really good for people to see if moving at this event. It's good to see the car running up the hill. People can see it and say: 'wow look at that!' What was the design process for this vehicle? With the Kaveya we were trying to design a supercar that no one looks at and thinks 'oh, it looks a bit like something else'. It looks completely unique. When we are at the design studio, we have a 'no' list, which is a list of attributes that other car companies are doing, especially supercars, that we say we will not do on our car. I think as designers, we can come up with something new, but sometimes we fall back on what we feel is safe in some areas. Some of the designs we came up with were phenomenal but we said no, too close to something else. We really did make a point of trying to be unique. I think as designers, we can come up with something new, but sometimes we fall back on what we feel is safe in some areas. I think we have come up with something very unique, clean, very simple. We have this master line; it goes from the rear fender, around the cowl into the other fender. We call it a comet line. That is a signature now for all our Kaveya models; all the other surfaces drape from it. Within the design industry I think there's been this bit of 'anti-design' where there are lots of slashes, weird forms, strange volumes, to make it 'new'. I think we really wanted to concentrate on the proportion and then reduce, reduce, reduce. People with a V10, V12 want noise, and you have to have some theatre with that. So, what is our theatre? We've removed all the door seals, and made them hidden seals; the windshield wiper panel slides back and forth to hide the wipers, which is also good for aerodynamics. To open the door you have a touch sensor on the panel; at the back of the vehicle at high speeds the spoiler comes out, and slides in when you want it to. Could you discuss the design of the interior? The interior that you see on the car today is more the demo car interior that we've been using. The screens hide away when you don't want them, or they reduce down. The armrest moves to expose the cupholder, when you get in it is a very clean and simple design. The car allows you to hide elements and bring them out when you want. We are also looking into passenger side screens. Do clients want to have minimal or maximum interaction? We are listening and thinking about it; a lot of clients are saying it would be nice for this model. There are some things that we do have to consider doing when we listen. Does the company have a global reach or is it focusing more on the US? The current car we're producing, the Revero, is available in mainland Europe. It's been homologated for there, as well as North America. The split is a bit more biased towards America. This one will be globally homologated. We'll be showcasing in China, Middle East, Europe and America. The Amaris will probably be a global vehicle, but they will remain left-hand drive. The Gyesera, is homologated for North America currently, but it can be adapted for Europe. We definitely are trying to become more of a global brand We definitely are trying to become more of a global brand, to have them in UK and everywhere. We've been building up the dealership network. We've got a lot of dealers in North America already and in Europe. What is the reaction to a hypercar which is electric? When we first showed it, I think it was at the peak of 'let's go electric', and there was really good influence on those early adopters. However, in the industry news at the moment it's about pulling back away from electric a little bit and going more towards maybe for hybrid as a stepping stone. A lot of the people who have put down a deposit already have a lot of ICE supercars, and they were okay with it, because they wanted something different; they want a different experience with each car they have. They like a performance, the looks, and the drama. This model is supposed to be full electric; we're not going to do an ICE version. We've also tried to hit a bit of a nice niche area, because you have Hyundai, BMW, Volkswagen, down in the more affordable EV vehicles. This falls in, as I said, about the $300,000-$400,000 mark, so it's a bit more of a niche area where people usually own quite a few cars, it's not their only one. They like a performance, the looks, and the drama.
