Train slams into van at level crossing after driver runs red light
CCTV footage released by Malopolska Police in Poland on Wednesday (6 August) shows a white van driving over the railway tracks as the lights flash red and the barriers guarding the crossing coming down.
Miraculously, the driver of the van survived the crash and sustained no injuries. The force also confirmed that no passengers on the train were injured in the incident.

A gardener who came to the UK illegally in order to make money was found to be tending to a cannabis factory with plants worth up to £200,000. There were four growing rooms in a house which contained more than 400 plants. Blloshmi Albi, 33, was stopped by a police officer while he was travelling as a passenger in a car on February 2 in Cardiff. He was searched and was found in possession of a mobile phone and a set of keys. A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday heard the keys belonged to a house in Heathfield Place, Cathays, and the phone contained images of a cannabis factory. A total of 94 mother plants were discovered in four growing rooms, and there were 330 saplings in a nursery area. Prosecutor James Evans said there was evidence of an earlier crop which had already been grown. The plants found in the address were found to have an upper value of £200,000. Albi, of no fixed abode, later pleaded guilty to cannabis production. The court heard he was of previous good character. In mitigation, the court heard the defendant had spent 91 days on remand in custody. It was said he had entered the country illegally in order to "make money" and became involved in the enterprise as a gardener. Sentencing, Judge Carl Harrison described the cannabis factory as a "sophisticated commercial set up". Albi was sentenced to eight months imprisonment. The Home Office will decide whether the defendant will be deported following the end of his sentence.

Driver arrested after leading Sacramento deputies on chase in stolen Amazon truck
The driver of a stolen Amazon truck was arrested after taking deputies on a chase spanning two counties, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said Friday. Deputies located the stolen semi-truck near the intersection of Watt and Edison avenues in the northern Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, the sheriff's office said. The driver fled from an attempted traffic stop and entered eastbound Interstate 80. The chase ended when law enforcement officials were able to get the driver to stop near Eureka Road in Roseville. The driver, who has not yet been identified, was then taken into custody. Photos taken and released by the sheriff's office show that the trailer of the semi-truck was loaded.

Davos founder Schwab cleared of misconduct by WEF probe
An investigation conducted by the World Economic Forum's board on Friday cleared the body's founder Klaus Schwab and his wife of wrongdoing, after a probe into whistleblower complaints. "Following a thorough review of all facts, the Board has concluded that ... there is no evidence of material wrongdoing by Klaus Schwab," the board announced. In April, the Wall Street Journal reported that an anonymous letter sent to the prestigious institution's board of directors accused Schwab and his wife Hilde of mixing their personal affairs with Forum resources without proper oversight. A spokesperson for Schwab had immediately denied all these accusations, but the 87-year-old said he would step down as head of the WEF. The board of the WEF, best known for its annual summit for political and business elites in the luxury Swiss ski resort of Davos, asked a law firm to carry out an independent probe of the allegations. "Minor irregularities, stemming from blurred lines between personal contributions and Forum operations, reflect deep commitment rather than intent of misconduct," the statement said. "The Board has taken action to address all issues identified throughout the investigation, including strengthening the governance in general." Also on Friday, the WEF said it will be replacing former Nestle CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe as interim chairman of the board. He is being replaced by the billionaire duo of Larry Finck, the American co-founder of the investment fund Blackrock, and Andre Hoffmann, the Swiss vice-chairman of the pharmaceutical group Roche, according to a separate statement. The letter alleged Schwab had asked junior employees to withdraw "thousands of dollars" from ATMs for him and used organisation funds to pay for massages during hotel stays. But the probe found nothing improper in his conduct. Schwab was born in Ravensburg, Germany, on March 30, 1938. He was married with two children. He was a professor of business management at the University of Geneva, where he taught until 2003, when in the early 1970s he launched the "European Management Forum," the precursor to the current Forum. He expanded it by inviting American business leaders, successfully building a huge network of the world's economic and political elite, transforming the event into a major high-level international gathering dedicated to business relations and the exchange of ideas. The Forum's success has led to the satirical concept of "Davos Man", the supposed avatar of a globalised elite of the stateless ultra-rich committed to free trade and high-minded seminars on corporate social responsibility. Like other international organisations, the WEF has spurred conspiracy theories alleging that it was seeking to establish a "new world order".
