Rams' potential trade for Jalen Ramsey creates suspense at OTAs

As the Rams went through organized-team activities on Wednesday, the players on the field were not the most compelling storyline.
The distinction belongs to a certain NFL star player who potentially could be on the roster by training camp.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI, remains in play as a possible addition to a Rams team regarded as a Super Bowl contender, coach Sean McVay acknowledged after practice.
The Dolphins have made it known that they were open to trading Ramsey, who signed an extension in 2024 and is due to earn $24.2 million this season, according to Overthecap.com.
'We certainly haven't closed the door on that,' McVay said when asked about Ramsey. 'But there hasn't been a whole lot of dialogue as of late…. We'll see if that changes, but these things can happen quickly.'
The Dolphins were not expected to trade Ramsey until after June 1 — which falls on Sunday — when their cap hit would decrease from $25.2 million to $6.7 million, according to Overthecap.com.

McVay reiterated that there remains 'a lot of layers' that would have to be worked out in terms of compensation the Dolphins might be seeking and how they would handle money due to Ramsey.
Ramsey, 30, intercepted two passes last season, increasing his career total to 24. The three-time All-Pro, however, affects the game beyond his statistics.
'Obviously, we love Jalen,' McVay said. 'We know him intimately. There would be some things that we would need to be able to do if that was the direction we went.'
With an offense led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams and running back Kyren Williams, and a defense anchored by lineman Kobie Turner and edge rusher Jared Verse, the Rams are expected to make another deep playoff run.

But the Rams did nothing in free agency or the draft to upgrade the secondary.
Veterans Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon return as the starting cornerbacks, with Cobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Derion Kendrick and Charles Wallace competing for playing time.
Quentin Lake, Kam Curl, Jaylen McCollough and Kam Kinchens are returning safeties.
'I feel good about where we're at,' McVay said.

Darious Williams is confident in the group as well.
'I love that,' he said of the Rams not making changes. 'I feel like everybody in the building kind of knows what they have, and I think they're dead right on it. … They've got the right guys in the room that are going to hold it down.'

But Darious Williams also recounted how Ramsey brought out the best in him when they played opposite each other in 2021, when the Rams won the Super Bowl.
'I knew absolutely, when he was on the other side, you know, I better lock up because it's not going to be a lot of times that people are going to want to try him,' Williams said. 'That was a big thing for me, and I took it as a challenge and I took it as something I loved.
'Whatever is best for this organization is what's going to happen.'

Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson, a second-round draft pick, said his experience so far exceeded his expectations. 'Everyone's poured into me, so it's been an amazing experience,' he said. … Nacua was absent because he was returning from a family trip that was planned months ago, McVay said. … Stafford connected with Adams on several plays. 'It's fun just trying to communicate as much as I can with him,' Stafford said, adding, 'It's fun to work with guys that understand the game and still have a lot left in the tank.' 'Kyren has been the same stud that we know,' McVay said. 'Great demeanor, great willingness to come out here to work to be able to get better. … We'll see where this goes. When Bill Belichick agreed to become North Carolina's next head football coach in December 2024, many were surprised for a variety of reasons. There was one thing in particular that stood out about his five-year, $50 million contract that called into question Belichick's long-term fit with the program. The buyout on his contract would dramatically decrease on June 1, falling from $10 million to $1 million. As that detail became known, many speculated just how invested Belichick, 73, was in remaining in Chapel Hill for the long haul. However, the curiosity surrounding that date in Belichick's contract gained further attention for a different reason over the past month. Belichick's relationship with his girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, has drawn national headlines, leading some to speculate whether UNC would be willing to cut ties with him at some point this offseason. That said, June 1 has arrived, and Belichick is still employed by the Tar Heels, but could that change soon? Here's everything you need to know about Belichick, UNC and the June 1 buyout date. What are the details of the June 1 buyout date? While some have speculated that North Carolina could move on from Belichick due to the decrease in his buyout, it's actually only applicable if Belichick leaves on his own accord. That interview led some to call into question just how involved Hudson is with not just Belichick's life, but also with UNC's football program. Emails obtained by The Assembly in March showed that Belichick asked UNC staff to copy Hudson on every email sent to him. In the aftermath of the "CBS Sunday Morning" interview, Meadowlark Media's Pablo Torre reported in May that Hudson was barred from UNC's football facility. UNC denied that was the case, though. "While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities," the school said in a statement on May 9. UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham didn't have any concerns about Belichick when he spoke with ESPN during the ACC spring meetings. "Bill [has] been great to work with," Cunningham said. "He talked about practicing like a pro and he runs a professional organization that is teaching students how to be professional in all aspects of their life. He is a very determined, professional individual, and that's the way he carries himself and the way he conducts the program." Later in May, Cunningham told Axios that UNC had sold out its season tickets for the 2025 season despite a price hike of 25% — something it didn't do in 2024 — and credited Belichick. How has UNC's football program changed under Belichick? Former UNC coach Mack Brown, who Belichick replaced, made headlines in May when he told SiriusXM College Sports Radio's "Dusty and Danny In the Morning," that the school had loosened up its academic requirements and made more investments into the football program ever since Belichick's hiring in December. "As far as North Carolina and Bill Belichick now, he's arguably the best coach ever," Brown said. "They've committed money to it. They've helped him with academics. As there were rumors of Belichick asking for an increased name, image and likeness (NIL) budget contingent on his hiring, there was an expectation that it would be upwards of $20 million, CBS Sports reported in December . That seemed to help Belichick in the transfer portal this offseason, helping UNC land the ninth-best class, per 247 Sports. In terms of high school recruiting, Belichick helped UNC land the 36th-best recruiting class in 2025 and the program has the 20th-best recruiting class in 2026 as of Sunday, according to 247 Sports. What are the expectations surrounding Belichick and UNC entering 2025? Considering the success Belichick has had and the improved talent on the roster, it's easy to think that UNC should improve its record from the 6-7 record it posted in 2025. However, its win total is set at 7.5 wins at DraftKings Sports as of Sunday. Additionally, it has the sixth-best odds to win the ACC. Belichick and UNC will open its season against TCU, hosting the Horned Frogs in the final game of Week 1. What other details are there to know in Belichick's contract? Belichick's five-year deal with UNC includes a variety of bonuses and perks. Russell Wilson: I fundamentally believe it's possible to succeed at the highest level again
Russell Wilson is in his first season with the Giants, but he's no stranger to his new home stadium. MetLife Stadium was the site of Super Bowl XLVIII and Wilson led the Seahawks to a 43-8 win over the Broncos in that game. During an appearance on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony, Wilson said that the chance to return to the scene of that accomplishment and the chance to help bring the Giants out of the doldrums convinced him that this was the right spot for the next chapter of his career. 'The opportunity here is so great,' Wilson said. 'I don't mind the lights. I don't mind that part of it. I think the other part of it for me, most importantly of it all that, is I've been here before. When you walk into a stadium, into a locker room and you know, like my locker is the same locker I had when I won the Super Bowl. So, for me, when I see that, when I walk into the stadium I'm like, 'I've been here before.' Not just been here but, like, we did this before. So, I fundamentally believe it's possible again in terms of being successful again and being at the highest level.' Wilson's belief that the Giants have the 'right guys' to make that happen are unlikely to find much support right now, but a strong start against a tough early schedule — at Washington and Dallas before home games against the Chiefs and Chargers — would rally some people to his side before October.
