One Piece Episode 1129: Bonney Learns Of Kuma's Tragic Past As A Buccaneer; Spoilers From The Manga
As per the episode preview, One Piece Episode 1129 will be titled 'Kuma's Past – Better Off Dead in This World. The episode will directly follow after Bonney's angry attack on Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, animating the events from manga Chapter 1095. Saturn, despite being stabbed through the chest, will show no signs of serious damage.
He will pull the blade from his body and immediately heal the wound, demonstrating an unnatural regenerative ability. Following this, he will effortlessly restrain Bonney and incapacitate Sanji, showing his complete physical dominance.
As Saturn turns his attention toward the fatigued Luffy, who is unable to continue fighting after using Gear 5, Franky will intervene to prevent Saturn from killing him in One Piece Episode 1129. Meanwhile, Admiral Kizaru, though not unconscious, will remain unable to move following Luffy's earlier assault, rendering him temporarily neutralized.
Saturn's aggression will increase as he prepares to kill Bonney. In this moment of fear and helplessness, Bonney will begin recalling her childhood memories with her father, Bartholomew Kuma. These memories will lead into a broader exploration of Kuma's backstory, beginning with Saturn revealing that Kuma is a descendant of the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers are an allegedly extinct race condemned by the World Government for a serious, unspecified crime. One Piece Episode 1129 will then shift to a flashback of Kuma's birth in the Sorbet Kingdom, where his family is quickly betrayed by the doctor who delivered him.
Hoping to curry favor or avoid punishment, the doctor will report Kuma's Buccaneer lineage to the authorities, leading to the family's immediate capture. Kuma's father, Clapp, will plead—unsuccessfully—for his wife and child's freedom in exchange for his own life. Eventually, Clapp will be murdered by a Celestial Dragon, and Kuma's mother will die during her years of enslavement.
Before his death in One Piece Episode 1129, Clapp will share the legend of Nika with young Kuma—a tale that will prove significant to Kuma's character and Bonney's understanding of him. This spiritual figure will eventually become one of the few things Kuma holds onto during the horrors of slavery.
The episode will also reveal a disturbing historical event: 38 years ago, the World Nobles held a Native Hunting Competition on God Valley, forcibly claiming the island in West Blue as the venue. During this inhumane event, Celestial Dragons, including Saturn and a young Saint Garling, hunted locals for sport.
It is during this time that Kuma had met other enslaved children, including Ginny and Emporio Ivankov. This moment in One Piece Episode 1129 will correspint with what Bonney had partially seen through Kuma's memories back in Episodes 1106 and 1107, finally providing full context to the traumatic vision.

One Piece: Oda confirms the 5 most legendary pirates from the Old era
Now that One Piece has stepped into its Final Saga, creator Eiichiro Oda is finally starting to reveal the truth about those really, really bad pirates from way back—the ones who crisscrossed and pillaged the seas long before our fearless protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, had even hatched. As great as those mythical figures were in shaping the world and laying the groundwork for all the drama taking place today, most notably in the unraveling Elbaf arc that is unfolding before our eyes right now, For viewers who may be unfamiliar with One Piece, these aren't just tough bad guys—they're the huge, mythical, legendary giants of the pirate age. Whether you've been watching anime for decades, or you're just ready to figure out why everyone seems to be raving about this greatest-of-all-time series, here's your guide to the illustrious top-five most infamous scallywags of the Golden Age, as recently corroborated by Oda himself. 1. Gol D. Roger – The true pirate king A t the top of the list is Gol D. Roger, the man that fully conquered the Grand Line and was the very first Pirate King. Like Gol D. Roger, he possessed the mythical treasure, One Piece, and ignited the Great Pirate Era with his dying declaration. In pure strength, he had no equal in his prime and even at the peak of his days on the ocean, he was crewmates with two of the strongest men you could ever imagine in Rayleigh and Gaban. Oh Joy Boy… I'm so jealous you got to be born in that era. – Gol D. Roger. Roger's influence can be felt even to this day, and no pirate in all of history has inspired so much romance, peril, and intrigue as he. 2. Whitebeard – The world's strongest man Edward Newgate, better known to most by his moniker of Whitebeard, was Roger's equal in battle, and was The Strongest Man in the World. He had previously sailed under Rocks D. Xebec before forming his own crew and then achieving ascendance as a Yonko (one of the four pirate emperors). The world feared Whitebeard's might and revered his crew. His passing on Marineford marked the true end of an era. His impact, mostly via his Tremor-Tremor Fruit ability that could literally cause islands to explode. 3. Rocks D. Xebec – The hidden monster Rocks D. Xebec was one of the coolest, most dangerous, most stylish tutorial stage crushingest, neatest, deadliest pirates to ever live. His vision didn't end at ruling the waves. His crews were later inspirations for legends on the sea like Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard. So strong even, that it took Roger and Garp side by side to beat him at God Valley. In spite of the fact that he himself has largely disappeared into obscurity, Rocks was at one time Roger's greatest rival and arguably the most dangerous pirate who ever lived. 4. Silvers Rayleigh – The dark king and right hand of Roger Silvers Rayleigh was the first mate to Roger. Even in retirement though, his power is as shocking as it is real. Much like Zoro, he trained Luffy during the time skip and is one of the extremely few characters in all of One Piece that can go toe-to-toe with an Admiral and keep them at a standstill. As late as May of this year, series creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Rayleigh was one of the three strongest crew members of Roger's crew, only behind the Pirate King himself. 5. Scopper Gaban – Roger's left hand and a silent legend Though his name is less widely recognized than Rayleigh's, Scopper Gaban was just as much a top-notch member of Roger's crew. Alongside Rayleigh, the three were known as the Wings of the Pirate King — a title that perfectly depicts their overwhelming strength and loyalty. As misused as Gaban has been in the show up to this point, Oda all but solidified his status as a legend by the confirmation. Fans are betting on him taking up a key position in the next acts of the Final Saga, as we called for in 10 Cut Content Elements That Would Make The Final Saga Even Better. Bonus Mention: Joy Boy – The pirate who came before everyone Joy Boy Perhaps the most fabled figure mentioned by the great pirates of the past, Joy Boy is a possible candidate and alt. His personal story becomes linked very deeply to the larger mysteries of the Void Century and the One Piece treasure itself. Fast forward to today and as the story approaches its climax, fans are finally learning how Joy Boy's legacy relates to Luffy's own destiny. One Piece legends still shape the present One Piece is credited as one of the greatest character driven stories of all time. These five mythical pirates from the Golden Age are in a realm of their own. Whether it be Roger's ideology, Whitebeard's power or Rocks' insanity, all of them contributed significantly to the creation of the pirate world as we know it today. Readers will need to hold out until One Piece Chapter 1152, releasing on June 25, 2023 if the schedule stays as is, to find out. Even at this point, fans are super pumped to find out more about the history. One thing's for certain though, even in passing, these legends continue to be an influence on the Final Saga and the Straw Hats' future.

One Piece creator hints at Luffy's possible death – Could the pirate king fall?
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Final saga of One Piece As One Piece arrives at its final saga, fans here and abroad are looking to answer one unthinkable question—Will Monkey D. Luffy die before it's all over? One Piece holds the records as the most popular anime and manga franchise of all time. It's a fun, swashbuckling adventure story that centers on the quest of Luffy, an impetuous young pirate whose body is made of rubber, to realize his dream and become Pirate King. As the story heads toward its possible conclusion, the chips are stacking up towards a more sinister fate. Recent developments in the manga—as well as some hints from creator Eiichiro Oda—indicate that Luffy's life will begin to end, the brutal consequences of all the battles on his body having finally caught up with him. Luffy's body is breaking down From Enies Lobby to Marineford and Wano, Luffy has gone above and beyond – even above the limits of a human being – over and over again. His aggressive haki-infused combat style, coupled with high risk abilities such as Gear Second, Third, Fourth and now Gear Fifth, has taken a physical toll on his body. Here's how to unpack it LET'S GO. Gear Second overheats his body and rapidly drains his stamina. He paid the price of 5 years of his life for being poisoned by Magellan while in Impel Down. He used life-risking hormone injections from Ivankov to continue fighting in the war. Back in Wano, Kaido actually threatened Luffy with death for trying to push himself back into Gear 5. Oda has shown dozens of these red flags throughout One Piece's extensive story, and eager fans are just starting to make these posthumous connections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Luffy's lifespan may already be running out When Luffy goes into Gear 5, his body takes on a cartoonish elastic form full of expressive punch. He's literally transforming into the 'Warrior of Liberation.' This shift presents a clear danger. Even Kaido, one of the strongest and most intimidating villains in the series, knew that Luffy was doing everything he could to stay alive, to get up and keep fighting. At one point, Kaido even remarked, You're just going to end up killing yourself if you continue like this! To which Luffy only had this to say: 'Really, what's the worst that could happen?' 'We're all just bones in the ground at the end anyway! Happiness has never been an option. It's pretty obvious that Luffy knows the dangers, but the quest for his mission is greater than life itself. Will Oda really kill off Luffy in the end? Most fans are convinced that Luffy will come out the other side of this story alive—and they have pretty compelling reasons to think that. Here's the deal. Here's why this matters. Chopper, the Straw Hat doctor, has a dream of curing every disease. Saving Luffy from death would allow Chopper's goal to be fulfilled in perhaps the best possible way. Whether or not Oda is planning adjournment to One Piece's end with an enormous celebration – an event that wouldn't feel justified without Luffy there to share in it – he has repeatedly stated his desire to have ONE PIECE come to a close. In interviews over the years, Oda stated that the last panel of the manga is already decided and it's not one of sadness. So even though Luffy's health is obviously no joking matter, we can at least carry the comfort of believing his story can still reach a brighter conclusion. When is the next One Piece chapter releasing? One Piece Chapter 1152 will officially be available for international readers on Sunday, June 22, 2025 through Manga Plus and Viz Media. In Japan, the chapter will be released on Monday, June 23 at 12AM JST. With each chapter in the Final Saga, the stakes continue to grow. Luffy's fate might very well be up in the air and audiences around the globe are waiting with bated breath to see. The concept of Luffy dying at One Piece's conclusion was a thing fans never could've seen coming years ago. Yet as this series reaches its inevitable last chapter, the stakes have never been higher. Will Luffy actually make it to Pirate King, and get to witness the changing world? Or will he meet the same end as the previous Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, who was executed before his vision came to fruition? Whatever the answer, Eiichiro Oda has certainly taken One Piece into emotional territory like never before and fans from the US, UK, and all corners of the globe won't want to miss what comes next. Luffy's strength, courage and heart have been the foundation of One Piece for more than two decades. Yet now, with death lurking around the corner, we are all painfully aware of what this story—and this character—has meant to millions. Stay tuned, because One Piece's conclusion is shaping up to be anime's most heart-wrenching finale ever.
