JAIPUR: In a first for the Rajasthan Police, Ramesh Sharma, posted at the Intelligence Training Academy (ITA) in Jaipur, became the force's first certified drone instructor. The police aim to strengthen technical capabilities by establishing a drone research centre and forensic lab at the ITA.
Sharma cleared the Remote Pilot Instructor Course conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Govt of India, in New Delhi on his first attempt. Officials noted the significance of this feat, citing the course's low pass rate of just 22%.
The initiative was led by Director General (Intelligence) Sanjay Agrawal in view of increasing drone activity along Rajasthan's international borders and also because of the ongoing plans to strengthen technical capabilities by establishing a drone research centre and forensic lab at the ITA.
Sharma, who also heads the IT cell at the academy, was selected for the specialised training programme in New Delhi.
According to police officials, the DGCA's Remote Pilot Instructor Course is mandatory for those who wish to train other drone operators.
Additional SP Shalini Saxena of the ITA said that the course equips instructors to work at certified Remote Pilot Training Organisations (RPTOs), allowing them to legally train drone pilots in line with DGCA norms.
Sharma's appointment is seen as a milestone in enhancing the force's in-house technical proficiency.

‘Mystery call' tells Malda man of return of son pushed to B'desh

Kolkata/Malda: Pushed into Bangladesh illegally on June 28 by Rajasthan Police and BSF, 22-year-old Malda migrant labourer Amir Sheikh has been brought back to an undisclosed location in India. Bengal govt said it has not been "officially" informed of the development. The news came a day ahead of Calcutta High Court's hearing of a habeas corpus plea moved by Amir's father, Jiyem Sk. Jiyem had alleged that his youngest son was "secretly deported to Bangladesh". On Tuesday, Jiyem told TOI: "We received two anonymous calls informing us that Amir has returned to India. When we wanted to know more, the calls were disconnected. The caller only said he would say as much. We are hoping and praying for Amir's safe return." The development caps several tumultuous months for Amir, whose viral video from Bangladesh on July 2, sobbing inconsolably and pleading for help, prompted strong reactions in Bengal. According to the petition in HC, on April 3, Amir migrated to Paradip in Odisha and then to Sikar in Rajasthan in search of livelihood. He was employed in Rajasthan as a labourer. On June 25, Rajasthan Police officers, accompanied by armed BSF personnel, conducted an identity-verification drive at Amir's worksite and "forcibly detained him without any communication of grounds or procedural safeguards". He was held in a detention facility outside Sikar. On June 28, he was allegedly pushed to Bangladesh. Islam said: "Interestingly, there was no way to repatriate Amir except through legal intervention, as he was tagged under a case involving illegal entry into Bangladesh. Central govt is now trying to repatriate Amir to his Malda home to save face." A senior official said Amir, once back in India, has to be produced in a local court so that the charges labelling him as an illegal Bangladeshi are dismissed.
