1. Sam Fender's hypersonic rise…

In some respects, he's an unlikely superstar - but he's about to become an even bigger one.For fans Chevy and Emily - who became friends at a Sam Fender gig - it's his "local hero" vibe."Every time I see him it's the same excitement," Emily told Newsbeat. She's in for an exciting few months.
2. Nostalgia is still what it used to be
It's not a Big Weekend without Anthems sets - inspired by the Radio 1 brand, throwing it back to bangers from the '00s and '10s.A lot of the Liverpool crowd weren't even born when Sugababes and Natasha Bedingfield dropped their biggest hits, but it didn't stop them singing every word."Our music is timeless," Sugababes told Newsbeat backstage - and the fans agree.It was "very nostalgic" for Laura and Alice who said "it's so good to see them back".It may have been more than 20 years since the group first pushed the button.But with new generations taking inspiration from Y2K culture, their new millennium, pop-meets-R&B energy has had a recent resurgence - inspiring younger acts like FLO - and it's not going away anytime soon.
3. Ed Sheeran delights and disappoints
By Saturday morning, rumours were swirling around Sefton Park - suggesting Ed Sheeran would be the "Secret Set" opening the New Music stage.After it was confirmed on social media, fans rushed to the tent - but a few songs in, the area had "reached capacity".Sheeran - who's spent the last couple of years selling-out massive stadiums around the world - said he wanted to play the smaller tent to feel the "energy" - and those lucky enough to be there loved the intimacy."He's the biggest artist in the world" for fan George, who described it as "a mental pull - the fact they managed to get him for a secret set".But for those shut out after the area was closed like Kate, 20 and Scarlett, 19, it was disappointing he wasn't on the Main Stage, where more fans could have seen him."I messaged my mum when it got announced," Kate tells Newsbeat. "Her and my sister were so jealous, and I was like, 'I'll send you videos!', but I'm not going to be able to."
4. Girl power
When this year's Main Stage headliners were announced, fans and journalists were quick to point out that they were all white and male acts.The BBC defended the line-up, telling Newsbeat at the time that female artists would make up around 60% of it - adding that "Radio 1 has a rich history of supporting and championing female and diverse artists"."It's very lazy," Self Esteem tells Newsbeat backstage, when asked about the lack of female headliners.But the singer, whose real name is Rebecca Lucy Taylor, says the "music industry is still so heavily-weighted in favour of men".From Tate McRae to HAIM on the Main Stage and Joy Crooks to JADE in the New Music tent - Sunday was seen as a day for women, demonstrating the depth and breadth of female talent.Fans, like Ellie, praised the way that Lola Young represents women in a "real" and authentic way.These acts might not have closed the Main Stage this time, but for many, they stole the show.The BBC says Radio 1 will "continue to advocate" for representation in the industry.
5. Disposable vapes: Ready for a summer of festivals without them?
If you've been to a festival in recent years, you'll have either used or been surrounded by disposable vapes, despite some events banning them.As the last major festival before a UK-wide ban on 1 June, there were special bins at the Big Weekend to recycle them.Some people we spoke to at Sefton Park weren't aware of the upcoming law change, while others said it was sad.Many had planned ahead, including Izzy, who's training to be a doctor."I've got a reusable one now," she said, adding she would usually "have a pack of cigs" at a festival but she'd "hate smoking that in a crowd and a vape's easier".But if vapes are now part of every festival, there's been so much about this Big Weekend - the first ever in Liverpool - that's felt unique to the city.From the warmth of the people, to the hundreds of red football shirts on display as Liverpool lifted the Premier League down the road - it's felt like a three-day celebration of the people and culture.

It comes just two months after it was reported that the former Premier League striker, 36, was questioned twice by Greek police over a series of bust-ups with Lou, 41, while the pair holidayed in Mykonos, Greece. The pair, who were together for just over a year, have now unfollowed each other on social media and Andy has wiped all trace of Lou from his Instagram. A source told The Sun: 'Andy got sick of Lou's demands and her influencer lifestyle. 'She's always posting on social media and he hates that. He told her it was over this week. He's single now.' The father-of-five returned to the UK with Dagenham & Redbridge last month after a two-year spell in France. The insider added: 'It's been a tough time and now he's back in the UK, he just wants to focus on football and his kids. 'He hates the influencer lifestyle. The couple's last public outing was at an Oasis gig at the end of July, where they packed on the PDA, proving they were still together. Speaking about the first incident, a worker at the Nikolus Tavern told the newspaper: 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' According to the restaurant worker, police arrived and took the ex-Liverpool, Newcastle United and England striker aside for a chat, before he was later allowed back to girlfriend Lou. 'Police spoke to him. He was allowed to return, and the couple left after paying for their meal. Andy was very calm when the police arrived — he stood up and spoke to them outside the restaurant', the restaurant worker added. Just hours later, cops were called again by hotel staff following reports of damage in their room. Daily Mail understands that the former England forward - once Britain's most expensive Premier League footballer when bought by Liverpool from Newcastle for £35million - was taken to the police station for questioning, but he was not arrested and no further action was taken. The incident was confirmed by a hotel employee, who claimed Carroll broke the door. That night, Lou left the hotel and spent the night at Soho Roc House. A joint statement from the couple given to The Sun said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' The pair began dating last year after he separated from his TOWIE star wife Billi Mucklow last September. Carroll and Mucklow called it quits divorce after two years of turbulent marriage, the footballer confirmed last year. In 2022, their wedding was almost called off when Carroll was pictured drunkenly passed out in bed with two women in Dubai on his stag do. Mucklow forgave him after one of the women insisted nothing sexual happened. Less than two years after their nuptials, the couple's marriage was over - with Carroll confirming they had started divorce proceedings after 'a hard few months for our family'. Carroll said in a statement at the time: 'Billi and I have privately separated earlier this year and we are under way with our divorce proceedings'. 'It has been a hard few months for our family and we continue to move forward amicably for our children.' US Vice-President JD Vance is set to meet Nigel Farage for breakfast later today after spending the evening with The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner. The US politician and reality TV star's unlikely friendship began on X and resulted in Skinner receiving an invite to join Mr Vance at his holiday residence in the Cotswolds. The Essex trader said the opportunity was 'once in a lifetime', also describing the Vice-President as a 'proper gent'. Vance hosted the barbecue with invitees including Cambridge Academic James Orr and Conservative MP Danny Kruger, The Times reported. A picture of the pair was shared on Skinner's social media. He wrote: 'Here is a pic of Me and Vice President JD Vance towards the end of the night after a few beers 'I'm overdressed in my suit, but when the VP invites you to a BBQ, you don't risk turning up in shorts an flip-flops 'Cracking night in the beautiful English countryside with JD, his friends and family. Once in a lifetime. Bosh.' In another reply, he added: 'When the Vice President of the USA invites ya for a BBQ an beers, you say yes. 'Unreal night with JD and his friends n family. The massive security operation surrounding Dean Manor has prompted its owner to apologise to neighbours for the disruption. The enormous property, where the Vice-President is staying, is located in a tiny hamlet of just 12 houses in Oxfordshire, and was picked out by US secret service personnel because of its remote secure location. Stone walls 15ft tall protect its immaculately manicured six–acre gardens The house, which was built 1702 in the reign of Queen Anne, is surrounded by teams of US secret service operatives dressed in regulation navy blue sports jackets and khaki chino trousers who are guarding the property around the clock. The manor house's owner, Pippa Hornby, was also sworn to secrecy on the imminent arrival of her new high–profile tenant. It is believed the rental may cost as much as £8,000 a week. Fittingly for right–wing Republican Vice President Mr Vance, the manor house has a history of Tory political figures as previous owners. It even has a former Tory Prime Minister living a very short stroll away. Dean Manor was built in 1702 for local Oxford Tory MP Thomas Rowney and is grade II listed. It was until recently owned by Tory peer Peter Selwyn Gummer, Baron Chadlington. Former Tory Prime Minister David Cameron – who is also known as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton – also lives in Dean with his wife Samantha and he has a permanent team of armed Metropolitan Police Protection officers at his home there. Dean Manor is about as close a neighbouring property to Clarkson's own Cotswolds home, Curdle Hill Farm, better known as Diddly Squat Farm, can be. They are a mile apart as the crow flies, separated mainly by Clarkson's own arable fields.
