La Luna's Little Sibling Debuts This Weekend in Logan Square

La Luna's Little Sibling Debuts This Weekend in Logan Square

Eater11-06-2025
After six years in Pilsen, Samantha Sanchez wants more. Sanchez and sister Corina are about to open their second restaurant, La Lunita, in Logan Square. Think of it as the name suggests — it's La Luna's little sibling. The new restaurant will bring over favorites from Pilsen with a few notable changes to the menu.
Opening date should be Saturday, June 14 at 2539 N. Milwaukee Avenue. While the Pilsen location uses tortillas from El Milagro, a beloved local manufacturer, La Lunita will serve tacos wrapped in corn tortillas made on premises. The menu from chef Marco Colin will focus more on platters and entrees. Look for chicken mole and more steak dishes. There's also a grilled and smoked octopus. Colin will make use of a wood-burning grill.
Sanchez is excited about serving wines from Mexico, something she didn't have access to until recently: 'I'm taking the time to carefully select the spirits I want to bring in and embrace,' she says. 'You know, certain small businesses, certain local and Latin-owned wineries.'
The Pilsen restaurant opened six years ago and has seen changes along 18th Street. The small and narrow restaurant and bar has brought a new energy to the area, and Sanchez hopes that translates in Logan Square.
Designwise, there's no patio, but a garage door-style window in the front swings out to improve circulation. The space also utilizes the signature flower tile from the Pilsen location. There's about 80 seats inside with room for 20 at the bar.
La Lunita's drink menu intrigues as every beverage can be made non-alcoholic. It's cost effective and also gives those who are avoiding booze more choices. Sanchez didn't want to treat those customers like a vegetarian in the '80s, with menus usually featuring a single sad pasta or salad.
'I didn't like giving them a B.S. cocktail,' Sanchez says. 'I wanted them to feel like they could still order off the menu exactly like what everybody else is ordering.'
Sanchez feels more poised in opening her second restaurant. She's found her own niche and is contributing to causes like Let's Talk Womxn, and breaking out from her father's shadow. Sam Sanchez was the founder of Wrigleyville mainstay John Barleycorn. He's been very vocal in his political beliefs as of lat, as ICE protests and raids dominate the headlines.
Samantha Sanchez is thankful for her family's support, but wants to establish her own identity and a new company called Culture Hospitality. She wants to open more restaurants in other parts of Chicago. With La Luna and La Lunita, she found that Pilsen and Logan Square share similar qualities.
'I felt that everybody knew each other and was a neighbor — everybody wanted to connect,' she says. 'I feel that same energy.'

GitHub CEO to step down

GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke announced on Monday that he's stepping down from his role. Dohmke will remain at the Microsoft-owned company until the end of the year, after which he will depart to become 'a founder again,' he wrote in a blog post. Axios reports that Microsoft will not directly replace the position, and that GitHub leadership will now report to several Microsoft executives. 'With more than 1B repos and forks, and over 150 million developers, GitHub has never been stronger than it is today,' Dohmke wrote. 'We have seen more open-source projects with more contributions every year. AI projects have doubled in the last year alone. And our presence in companies of any size is unmatched in the market.' The move comes as GitHub is facing growing competition from companies like Google and Cursor over AI tools for programmers. Sign in to access your portfolio

ESPN, Fox to bundle upcoming streaming services for $39.99 a month

Disney's ESPN and Fox Corp. are teaming up to offer their upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming services as a bundle, the companies said Monday. The move comes as media companies look to nab more consumers for their streaming alternatives, and draw them in with sports, in particular. Last week, both companies announced additional details about the new streaming options. ESPN's streaming service — which has the same name as the TV network — and Fox's Fox One will each launch on Aug. 21, ahead of the college football and NFL seasons. The bundled apps, however, will be available beginning Oct. 2 for $39.99 per month. Separately, ESPN and Fox One will cost $29.99 and $19.99 a month, respectively. While the bundle will offer sports fans a bigger offering at a discounted rate, the streaming services are not exactly the same. ESPN's flagship service will be an all-in-one app that includes all of its live sports and programming from its TV networks, including ESPN2 and the SEC Network, as well as ESPN on Disney-owned ABC. The app will also have fantasy products, new betting tie-ins, studio programming and documentaries. ESPN will also offer its app as a bundle with Disney's other streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu, for $35.99 a month. Last week, ESPN further beefed up the content on its streaming app when it inked a deal with the WWE for the U.S. rights to the wrestling league's biggest live events, including WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam, beginning in 2026. The sports media giant also reached an agreement with the NFL that will see ESPN acquire the NFL Network and other media assets from the league. The Fox One service, however, will be a bit different. Fox had been on the sidelines of direct-to-consumer streaming for years after its competitors launched their platforms. Just this year, it said it would offer all of its content — including news and entertainment — from its broadcast and pay TV networks in a streaming offering. Fox One won't have any exclusive or original content. Fox's move into the direct-to-consumer streaming game — outside of its Fox Nation app and the free, ad-supported streamer Tubi — came after it abandoned its efforts to launch Venu, a joint sports streaming venture with Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery. Both Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch and Disney CEO Bob Iger said during separate earnings calls last week they were exploring bundling options with other services. Since Fox announced the Fox One app, Murdoch has said the company would lean into bundles with other streaming services. "Announcing ESPN as our first bundle partner is evidence of our desire to deliver the best possible value and viewing experience to our shared customers," said Tony Billetter, SVP of strategy and business development for FOX's direct to consumer segment, in a release on Monday.

UFC Officialy Moves From ESPN to Paramount: Why It Is a Huge Win for a Fans Wallet

All UFC television broadcasts will be moving from ESPN to Paramount starting next year. And the news is a big win for the wallets of diehard fight fans. Over the last few months, the UFC has been in discussions with various networks and streaming services about purchasing their media rights. The promotion's current deal with ESPN ends this year. Rumors over the last year have pointed to it being very unlikely the two sides would continue their relationship. Well, those rumors became a reality today when the UFC announced its new television home. However, it is not the brand most expected. Instead of heading to Amazon Prime or Netflix, the company is taking its violence circus to the Paramount+ streaming service in a deal reportedly worth $7.7 billion. Also Read: 'Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, and TKO Group Holdings, Inc., a premium sports and entertainment company, today announced a seven-year media rights agreement in which Paramount will become the exclusive home of all UFC events in the U.S,' the companies announced in a statement. 'Starting in 2026, Paramount will exclusively distribute UFC's full slate of 13 marquee numbered events and 30 Fight Nights via its direct-to-consumer streaming platform, Paramount+, with select numbered events to be simulcast on CBS, Paramount's leading broadcast network.' Why UFC events heading to Paramount+ is a big win for fight fans Watching UFC events on ESPN+ has become expensive for fight fans. To watch the majority of UFC Fight Night cards, a subscription is required, and that costs $11.99 a month or $119.99 per year if you did not sign up for a combo deal with other Disney-owned services like Hulu and Disney+ years ago. But if you wanted to watch a pay-per-view event, that cost an extra $79.99. A huge cost to see the biggest fights in the sport each month. However, in the press release, it was revealed that this will no longer be the case on Paramount+. Similar to what WWE did on Peacock, events that were once pay-per-view switched to being called premium events and were free, along with a subscription. The current cost of a Paramount+ subscription is $7.99 a month or $59.99 per year with ads, or $12.99 a month or $119.99 a year for ad-free content. That means in 2026, you will be able to watch events like this weekend's UFC 319 card for no added cost. The deal ushers in a more fan-friendly era that should bring back fans bothered by the high costs of events and greatly expand Paramount+'s reach with fight fans. 'This is a milestone moment and landmark deal for UFC, solidifying its position as a preeminent global sports asset,' Ariel Emanuel, Executive Chair and CEO of TKO, said in the statement. 'Our decade-long journey with UFC has been defined by continuous growth and expansion, and this agreement is an important realization of our strategy. 'We believe wholeheartedly in David's vision and look forward to being in business with a company that will prioritize technology as a means to enhance storytelling and the overall viewing experience.'
