Ademola Lookman releases furious transfer statement after 'broken promises'
Former Premier League star Ademola Lookman has handed in a transfer request at Atalanta in an effort to force a move to Inter Milan. Lookman, 27, wants to join the Serie A giants and says that he reached an agreement with Atalanta's board which would allow him to leave if they received a 'fair' offer.
But the ex-Everton, Fulham and Leicester forward claims that Atalanta have 'broken promises' to him, having already sold one star player, Mateo Retegui, this summer. That's prompted Lookman to hand in a 'formal transfer request', a decision which he confirmed in a lengthy statement on social media.
"There have been numerous clubs approach Atalanta in the past and I have previously always stayed loyal," part of his post read. "However, myself and the ownership of the club have been in agreement that now is the right time and the club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in they would allow me to move.
"Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.
"As a result and after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough. I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request."
Lookman joined Atalanta from German side RB Leipzig in 2022 for £9.4million. The England-born Nigeria international has scored 52 goals in 117 games for La Dea, including a first career hat-trick during their Europa League final win against Bayer Leverkusen in 2024.
So far, Inter have submitted two bids for Lookman, neither of which have met Atalanta's reported £43.5m valuation. Their CEO, Luca Percassi, confirmed Inter's first offer last week but explained how Retegui's £56m departure to Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah has changed their financial situation.
"Lookman has been expressing his desire to leave for some time," Percassi said. "It's no secret. In all our discussions, he was a player who should have left this summer, following our club's philosophy of one sale per year.

"But the transfer market always brings unexpected things, you know well what happened with Mateo Retegui. For Lookman, despite so much interest, there had never been anything concrete until yesterday when the first official proposal arrived. Inter is a very friendly company, I saw [president Beppe] Marotta yesterday.
"We have a great friendship and professional relationship. In these days, we will evaluate with great serenity the offer we have received, and then give an answer. I can only say that the timing and exit values of Atalanta players are decided only by the club."

'Maybe Dibling's time at Saints is coming to end'
BBC Sport senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel says those close to Southampton believe Tyler Dibling's time as a Saints player could be coming to an Wednesday, it was revealed the 19-year-old had been withdrawn from full-contact training by the Championship side. Speaking on the Football Daily podcast, Mokbel stated that while some people closer to the Everton camp feel the deal has stalled, others suspect that there are still "legs" to it."The information varies depending on who you speak to," he said. "If you speak to people closer to Everton, they will tell you that the deal has reached an impasse and Southampton are asking for far too much. "If you speak to those closer to the South Coast, there is a realisation there that maybe Tyler Dibling's time is coming to an end."Listen to more about Saints and Dibling on BBC Sounds' Football Daily podcast.

Enzo Maresca issues warning over Estevao 'mistake' ahead of Chelsea debut
Enzo Maresca has warned Chelsea about the danger of putting Estevao 'under pressure' in his first season at Stamford Bridge. Last year, Chelsea reached an agreement to sign the 18-year-old from Brazilian side Palmeiras, paying €34 million (£28.7m) up front plus a further €23m (£19.4m) in add-ons. Estevao remained at Palmeiras until after their Club World Cup campaign and he has now joined Chelsea ahead of the new Premier League season. The winger is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Brazil and is already being compared to Neymar. But Maresca insists Estevao needs time to adjust following his move to the Premier League. 'For me, the biggest mistake we can do with him is to put him under pressure. He's very young, he needs to adapt,' Maresca said. 'I met him for the first time in the USA when we played against Palmeiras. He's a fantastic player, he's very young, he's a happy boy. He's always laughing, typical from a Brazilian guy and we need to keep him happy. 'We need to pay a little bit more attention, first of all because first of all he's from the other part of the world and also he's very, very young. So we need to pay attention. 'As I said, [he is] not under pressure, give him happiness, give him time, he needs to adapt. Hopefully we can give him minutes, so he's even more happy. But for sure, he's a talented player.' More Trending Maresca also believes Estevao is capable of playing in multiple positions in Chelsea's attack. When asked about where Estevao can fit in Chelsea's team, Maresca said: 'He can play everywhere. 'He's so good. For me, he's like Cole [Palmer], in terms of, careful, he is like Cole in terms of position. 'He can play outside, he can play inside, he can play everywhere. In our five attacking positions, for me, he can play everywhere.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
