MoH launches 'Strengthen Your Health with Climate Change' campaign

Dr. Abeer Al-Bahou, Director of the Health Promotion Department, outlined the campaign's focus on raising awareness of heat-related illnesses, air pollution, and their impact on public health. The initiative includes workshops, lectures, and interactive activities designed to encourage healthy behaviors and highlight the crucial link between environmental conditions and human health. She stressed the importance of building resilient health systems capable of addressing climate change challenges while protecting both people and the environment.
The campaign also covers broader health threats linked to climate shifts, such as the rise in infectious and chronic diseases, changing rainfall patterns, and the effects of rising sea levels on coastal communities. The Ministry continues to prioritize public education on protecting health from extreme heat and outdoor air pollution, including preventive measures against sunstroke.
Adnan Al-Othman, representing the Abdullah Al-Othman Endowment, which supports the campaign through the Promenade collaboration, highlighted the vital role of public education in addressing climate change. He stressed that raising awareness, especially among youth and parents, is essential to promoting sustainable practices and mitigating long-term health and developmental risks. Al-Othman pointed out that effective climate action requires not only technical solutions but also widespread community engagement to foster behavior change.

The three-day campaign honors the memory of Kuwait's martyrs and aims to strengthen national unity across government, military, and civil society sectors. In a statement at the launch, Dr. Al-Awadhi described the campaign as a message of loyalty and gratitude to those who gave their lives for the nation. He emphasized that donating blood is both a humanitarian duty and a symbol of national solidarity, encouraging citizens and residents to donate at the Central Blood Bank in Jabriya and other Ministry of Health facilities across the country. 'Donating a drop of blood saves a life,' the minister said, revealing that over 100 blood bags were collected within the first two hours of the campaign—an unprecedented turnout. KUWAIT CITY, July 31: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health (MoH) reaffirmed on Wednesday its unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking, protecting its victims, and providing them with comprehensive health care services, as part of the State's broader national efforts. The Ministry's spokesperson, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, made the statement on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed globally on July 30. Dr. Al-Sanad emphasized that the Ministry's role in addressing this issue stems from 'an integrated humanitarian and professional system that encompasses prevention, monitoring, and rehabilitation.' He added, 'Protecting the victim begins from the moment they enter a health facility and continues until they are able to live again in safety and dignity.' The Ministry provides free, comprehensive health services to all victims without discrimination. These include emergency care, ambulance services, full treatment for medically and legally significant cases, and various preventive vaccinations. All services are delivered with strict professional confidentiality and respect for the victims' privacy. Emergency and accident departments at government hospitals are equipped with immediate reporting protocols, ensuring prompt coordination with the relevant authorities in cases of suspected violence or exploitation involving children, adults, or the elderly. Security checkpoints and specialized investigators are stationed in hospitals around the clock to ensure rapid and professional intervention. In such cases, the Ministry also provides legally compliant medical documentation to aid investigations. In 2018, Kuwait established the National Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, aiming to create a society free from trafficking and smuggling, and committed to raising public awareness of the dangers of these crimes. The United Nations General Assembly has designated July 30 as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, to raise awareness of human trafficking, highlight the plight of victims, and advocate for the protection of their rights.
