Kylie Minogue and Troye Sivan win big at 2025 APRA Music Awards but don't show up - with both pop stars' relatives collecting their gongs
The cream of the Aussie pop crop were big winners at the 2025 APRA Music Awards in Melbourne on Wednesday night.
But the biggest names who landed gongs at the event didn't show up to claim them.
The prestigious Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music went to Kylie Minogue.
It was collected by her nephew, Charlie Minogue, while Kylie appeared via a video link.
The Queen of Pop is currently in California for the last US date of her Tension tour on Friday, ahead of a series of sold-out dates in the UK.
'Thank you so much, APRA. This is such an honour; I am completely over the moon. I'm only sad that I'm not with you in person,' she said in a video acceptance speech.
'Seventeen-year-old me would not be able to compute the life that music has given me. I mean, we all know it's work' she continued.
'You work for it, but I feel like whatever we give and whatever it might take from us, we receive more.
'As I'm on tour at the moment, I'm singing songs throughout my entire catalogue.
'So, from the first one, The Locomotion, right up to songs from Tension, I'm really aware of... the passage of time and how much more music means to me,' she said.
Dance-pop darling Troye Sivan was named Songwriter of the Year at the awards, after winning APRA Song of the Year in 2024 for his hit song Rush - but he was absent from the ceremony.
Collecting his award for him were Troye's mum and dad, Laurelle Mellet and Shaun Mellet.
Song of the Year went to punk rock powerhouse Amyl and the Sniffers - who were also not in the house.
Amyl and the Sniffers have added APRA Song of the Year to their list of accolades, taking out the prestigious peer-voted award for the track, U Should Not Be Doing That.

The four-piece outfit fronted by high-energy singer Amy Taylor is currently in the US as part of its 2025 world tour, having recently played the first weekend of the Coachella Festival in California.
Musician Kevin Parker took home two gongs, Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work, for his efforts co-writing the Dua Lipa pop hit Houdini.
Jude York's cover of Kylie's global hit Can't Get You Out of My Head was among the live tribute performances, with Gut Health also delivering a rendition of Amyl and the Sniffers' winning tune.
Singer-songwriter Sia won Most Performed Australian Work overseas for the sixth time with her hit Unstoppable, while the International Recognition Award went to Grammy-winning producer Keanu Torres, who has worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, Doechii, and The Kid LAROI.
Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell, known as Royel Otis, took out Emerging Songwriter of the Year.

Rita Ora on how her Liam Payne collaboration became an LGBTQ+ anthem
Rita Ora will proudly tell anyone who inspired her new album – and it's her LGBTQ+ fans. The chart-topping singer is back with a bold, poptastic single titled Heat, featuring raunchy lyrics and a catchy melody guaranteed to become the soundtrack for all summer parties. She released the banger ahead of taking to the stage at the World Pride Music Festival in Washington, D.C., which feels appropriate given that she's long shared a special connection with her queer fans. Speaking exclusively to Metro as she launches a sizzling new era of her career, Rita, 34, reflects on what her music means to her LGBTQ+ fans and why one tune in particular now holds a new meaning. 'They've inspired my whole album; this is honestly a dedication to them and how much they have supported me, even in moments where I've felt like I can't continue,' she says of her LGBTQ+ fanbase ahead of her next record. Having recently supported Kylie Minogue on the US leg of her Tension tour, Rita adds: 'Her fanbase is so inspired by the community. I felt so appreciated and supported on that tour, and it was a real reminder that sometimes, we are our worst enemies, and all you've got to do is go outside and connect with people, and that's why live music will never die. 'That's why I debuted Heat on the Kylie show. I felt like, 'Wow, the spirit of music is still alive,' and it was all because of her fanbase that brought me into this newfound confidence to come out with a bang and just get crazy and enjoy the summer and be unapologetically me.' With thousands of members from all over the world, our vibrant LGBTQ+ WhatsApp channel is a hub for all the latest news and important issues that face the LGBTQ+ community. Simply click on this link, select 'Join Chat' and you're in! Don't forget to turn on notifications! Asked which of her tunes resonates with the queer community the most, she says her 2017 bop Anywhere, which is a love song about escapism, is the one that gets crowds going. 'They (fans) always come up to me and tell me Anywhere has taken them out of a real depressing moment that they may have been in or inspired them to just move on from what they were stuck in. 'And I saw that on the Kylie show, everyone was just really singing Anywhere; that really touched me.' Another special one is For You, which she dropped in 2018 in collaboration with Liam Payne for the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack. Now, almost eight months on from the One Direction star's death, Rita uses the live performances as a way to pay tribute to her late friend. 'For You, of course, I felt like we were all connected there in remembering Liam, and I definitely made a choice to remember him every single show, so it was incredible to feel that support in the room.' Rita was close to the Strip That Down hitmaker, and they formed a wholesome friendship, leaving her devastated when he died. Hosting the MTV EMAs last November, she remembered him as 'one of the kindest people that I knew' while fighting back tears. The Your Song hitmaker has always used music as a way of expressing herself, and she's now hoping her new material is perceived as 'a form of release'. On the driving forces behind the upcoming lyrics to her fourth album, she shares: 'My last album was so emotionally driven by my relationship, and I was very inspired by that huge transition in my life and what my relationship impacted on me, and just being inspired by love, whereas this time, I did all of that; I kind of got my feelings out, and I wanted to just have fun. 'I wanted to feel free, I wanted to celebrate my womanhood, I wanted to get back to that unapologetic confidence that I feel like I came out the gate with with my first album.' The performer, who married Taika Waititi in 2022, admits that she 'misses the old Rita,' which is why she's tried to further tap into 'feeling empowered by other women and the gay community' while beavering away in the studio. 'My song Heat is so fun. Every album nowadays has to have language, you know? What is the language you're speaking with your fans?' 'You need to present this, like, world, because people really need to have something to believe in or run away from, and when you present this world, it becomes like a safe oasis for your fans, and that's exactly what this song is, and when you hear the title of the album, it'll all make sense,' she teases. And the album title isn't the only thing Rita is playing coy about. Additionally, she's keen to make a return to Worthy Farm, having made her Glastonbury debut in 2013. More Trending 'I did the Pyramid Stage, and it was iconic. It's like one of the highlights of my career, so I'd love to go back and do a massive surprise. 'It's UK legacy, come on! Who can say no to that?' Well, Rita, we certainly wouldn't… Rita Ora's new single Heat is out now. Got a story? Kris Jenner shares truth behind her facelift after Kylie's boob job admission
Kris Jenner has thanked a surgeon for giving her her first facelift over a decade ago, after daughter Kylie Jenner opened up about the boob job she had in 2018 After years of trying to claim the results of surgical procedures came from clever lighting, lip liners and laxative teas, the Kar-Jenners are finally being honest about going under the knife. Fresh from daughter Kylie Jenner revealing all about her boob job, Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner, 69, has fessed up to having a facelift. Kylie, 27, recently candidly replied to a fan's question about her breast implants on TikTok - confirming the exact details of her surgery and the doctor who carried out the procedure. A TikTok user named Rachel expressed her admiration for Kylie's 'most perfect, natural looking boob job ever', seeking specific details as inspiration for her own surgery. Trailing off with an eager plea, she asked Kylie: "Girl, please. Can you just tell us? Can you just tell me what it is that you asked for when you had your boobs done." In a surprising move, Kylie didn't shrink from sharing the precise details of her surgery, replying to the video with openness and specifics. She informed her curious follower: "445 cc, moderate profile, half under the muscle! ! ! ! ! silicone! ! ! garth fisher! ! ! hope this helps lol.." Thrilled with Kylie's online endorsement, Dr Fisher took to Instagram on Thursday to thank the mum-of-two for the shout out. "I'm honoured to be acknowledged by Kylie—her kind words were unexpected but truly appreciated," the doctor wrote to his followers. He continued: "Patient confidentiality has always been the foundation of my practice. Over 3 decades, we've never had a single breach. My entire team is thoroughly trained and bound by strict NDAs and confidentiality agreements. This is more than policy—it's our culture." He went on to reference HIPAA (patient privacy) laws and why he will never discuss a client's procedures without their permission, adding: "Every patient is unique. This isn't 'cookbook' surgery—it's thoughtful, personalised care." In the comment section, Kris was quick to gush over the doctor and thank him for his past work on her body amid buzz surrounding her new rumoured facelift. "Garth you are such a superstar class act," the momanger told the surgeon. "You did my first facelift in 2011… 14 years ago!!! and made it the most amazing experience ever and even gave us access to film so that others could get a peek inside what it's like and not be afraid… you have taken great care of us always and remain such a close and treasured friend!! Such an incredible talent!!" Kris and Kylie's new candidness about their surgeries is a far cry from the days the Kar-Jenner clan would lie about how they achieved their looks - with Kylie famously claiming her plump pout was due to cleverly applied liner rather than the filler injected into her lips. After fessing up to loving lip filler, Kylie has since denied ever having any facial plastic surgery, insisting that she has not resorted to fillers or Botox for her face. "I'm not against plastic surgery but as of now, I only have fillers. Like I've said before, it has always been a huge insecurity of mine and I wanted to make a change," she firmly stated in a previous post on her platform.
